Things are looking so bleak and desperate at this stage, why not sign Damon and put him in RF? He's the LH bat Hendry wants, he has good OBP, decent speed, a bit of power. And the Cubs have money. No, he's not an ideal solution, but he sure looks better than any alternatives we're being presented. Preston Wilson? Jacques Jones? Corey Patterson? Please.

If you keep Walker, now you've got a decent looking offense with three everyday LH bats (Damon, Walker and Pierre) and a switch-hitter when Neifi plays for Cedeno at SS.

If you bat Pierre, Damon, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Walker, Murton and Neifi/Cedeno, you have good OBP everywhere but #8, and you blunt the impact of Neifi in the lineup by having him at the bottom.

I'm thinking this might be the best solution at this point, but Hendry has shown no interest in Damon, which is disturbing. He has the money, his alternatives look awful, he should do this. He does have a good relationship with Boras, after all.

I really don't want to think about how many cutoff men it'd take for him to get the ball to 2nd, from RF. Damon in right, is a scary, scary thought.

LA, NY and Boston are bidding for him. Do I need to say more... The Cubs rarely beat out these teams for anyone, and tend to settle for second tier free agents.

Damon's .805 ops doesn't get me all that fired up. Wilson did almost as good and didn't play in a hitter park all year.

Put every eggs into the Tejada basket. Wth go for broke.

Damon's price tag will be too high, he has too little power for a corner position and his arm sucks.

Just because things are looking bleak doesn't mean Hendry should throw a bunch of money at people who won't fix our problems.

Did the air get thicker in Coors this year?

I just don't see this as happening Don. But if it did I would put Damon or Pierre in left and slide Murton to right.

I like watching the Dodgers pay a lot of money in a bad free agent market as I've never liked them anyways.

I think he is referring to RFK. His numbers did drop once he started playing in that cavernous stadium.

i think that you need to weight OBP as a little more important than slugging. which is my overall problem with the OPS stat. not that i don't think it's an important one, because i do.

If the Cubs have an infield of Lee, ARam and Tejada they could go for a couple of high OBP guys in the OF. I'm curious if Damon likes Center better than Left.

Wilson played for Washington in 2005 too.

Which is a complete 180 from what the LA Times wrote a month ago. They wrote the Dodgers were cutting payroll to around $85 million. Guess that isn't the case.

This is the anti-Furcal offer. Too long and too little money per season.
