Embarrasing, I for one wanted to retain Nomar and use him for exactly what the Indians want to sign him for. I didn't realize he'd play almost anywhere. Everything I read said Nomar would have signed with the Cubs if they didn't want him to play in the outfield.

What about Peralta? are they moving him?

The article says:

The Indians envision him as a utility role or the club could move him into right field and use Casey Blake as a part-time first baseman, third baseman or outfielder.

If he has made it wide known that he would play any position why wouldn't the Cubs have made any effort to get him at a disscount price once again. I am not saying they should have offered multi-year deals or anything but give him a chance to play as the best 2nd baseman or OF we would have had?

That's what I thought, but I was a little more fond of Nomar than most.

yea...I dont understand why we didnt keep Nomar for another year.....we could really use him as this team is still ridden with holes that need to be fixed.

That is one move that I think Hendry is a dumba$$ for not making.

And the more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that this team will be going nowhere with Hendry and Crusty!

I don't understand the love for Nomar. We play in the NL, where there isn't a DH. We just can't have him play the field everyday with that groin of his. It's like a ticking time bomb, you just never know when it will fall apart.

Id rather take my chances on nomar's groin issues than have a starting outfield with Jones, Encarnacion, or Patterson in it.....and if Walker gets dealt.....then Id rather see Nomar take that spot and play the odds....at least then Neifi could back him up and give him some time off.

.320/.367/.544

Thats the Nomar love. And no, thats not the best year of his career. Those are his career stats. And so he's an injury risk. Give him a 4 Mil base contract with an extra 6-8 million in incentives based on plate apperances. That way if he bombs, then he only costs us a couple mil, but if he turns out to be gold, then well we get what we want. A productive SS.

Don't forget Cedeno to because Tejada would be at Short. =P~

I'll miss Nomar, and since it looks like he was indeed willing to play just about any position, I'm more than a tad pissed off at Hendry for not signing him especially since we could have had him for far less than the 8 million we gave him last year.

Don't get me wrong, I would love nothing more than to see Tejada at SS. But I really dont think we've got a chance, and I don't want to get really excited until I at least hear a statement from Hendry saying that he's pursuing it.

Yes, Nomar has a canon of an arm, but I don't think he has the ability to play RF. Maybe Nomar will prove me wrong next year, but I seriously doubt he plays more than 100 games next year.

Maybe Nomar changed his mind about playing in the outfield but initially he said he wouldn't. I'll miss Nomar, he really was a class act but I think people need to get off Hendry's back-- it was Garciaparra in the first place that indicated he would only play in the infield. I thank Hendry for one, in making it possible to even get No-mah!

Let's see where he signs before we decide he changed his mind. Furcal was talking pretty big about playing any position too. It is most times just a negotiating tool by the agent to make teams that are interested think there is more competition for the player's services than actually exists.
