If Hendry deals Corey Patterson (I'm guessing 80% probable with the Pierre trade complete), I think he would lean towards sending him to an AL club.

If I were to guess 5 logical destinations, I would say the Yankees, Orioles, White Sox, Angels or Mariners might be interested to take a flier on him.

Yankees - If Damon goes to Boston, and with Pierre and Wilkerson already dealt, and no movement on Torii Hunter, what is their plan C? Surely not Bernie again, although they offered him arbitration.

Orioles - I've read reports that they may non-tender Luis Matos.

White Sox - With Rowand gone, they are publically leaning towards Brian Anderson; local beat reporters have speculated that privately Kenny Willliams may not be so sure.

Angels - Steve Finley was just awful in 2005, and the Angels would love to dump him on somebody.

Mariners - Not a good year for Jeremy Reed either; there were some reports early in the offseason that they would look into Pierre.

What's everybody thinking?

The Jeniuses on espn thought the Yankees would just go with Crosby in cf and have Bernie DH. Don't know if Patterson is too much of an upgrade over Crosby and I don't know of anything they would have to trade us.

i think yankees fans would eat him alive, but that would be a nice destination otherwise. he could just concentrate on D, relax at the plate and let the talent flow, or not. it's not like they need an offensive star out in CF.

I think he might flourish in NYC. You squeeze him between a couple of All-Star players, and he'll get a steady diet of fastballs.

Then again theres nobody from that team I'd like on the Cubs that would realistically be traded to us.

Nationals or Rangers?

Nationals very possible as Bowden like those tools guys too. Rangers have such a surplus of OFs now, I don't see it.

Looking at the Soriano deal, we could probably get Bowden to ship us Livan, a decent OF and a PTBNL for Wood if we could get Kerry to waive his NTC.

SoCal contact who told me about the Angels/Cubs rumour last week also said Arizona may be in the mix for Patterson. He posed three scenarios:

(1) Patterson for Luis Gonzalez and cash;

(2) 3-way deal with Patterson going to AZ, Glaus going to LA and Bradley coming to the Cubs along with prospect movement and cash.

(3) 4-way deal with Vazquez going to the Red Sox, Manny going to the Mets, Floyd going to the Cubs, and Corey and prospects going to AZ.

Crazy stuff!

Personally, I think Patterson will be dealt straight up for Bradley, to be honest.

Sounds great to me.

I'm not so sure LA would do that. Couldn't they get two good prospects from the A's? Maybe we'd throw in a minor league arm in the deal.

I'd take all of those. 2,3,1 in order of preference.

As long as we're talking to Arizona about outfielders, why not see what it would take to get Shawn Green? Lefty batter, easily gives us .280, 20 HRs, 80 RBIs, .350 OBP, .800 OPS. He plays a very solid RF, and he can spell someone in CF or at 1B every so often. He's no worse than anyone else mentioned for RF (Mench, Nixon, Jones) save for Abreu, and his cost in trade would almost certainly be less than what we'd have to surrender for Abreu. He also has Chicago ties, being born in Des Plaines, and would open up an outfield spot in Arizona for Quentin or Jackson.

We need to deal for someone who makes sense for RF. Luis Gonzalez doesn't have the arm for it. Shawn Green on the other hand does. I would ship Patterson to Arizona for Green but not Gonzalez.

Green would have to waive his no-trade clause. I think he can block a deal to any team other than the Dodgers, Padres and Angels.

I imagine Green would be willing to do that to come to Chicago, but you might have to guarantee his 2008 paycheck as a carrot.

Even if AZ were willing to deal Green, why in the world would you think their GM to be silly enough to take a $2.x million dollar bust for a guy who is capable of being in the top 5 of NL outfielders.. Although, I know Green has a background in Chicago, so that would not be a problem.

But anyone who heard Hendry on MLB Radio yesterday knows that Patterson is gone.

out of these 3 scenarios isn't Bradley the only one who could actually play RF? WOuld Murton be moved to RF if we acquired Luis Gonzalez or Cliff Floyd?

Murton would be a LF platoon partner and 4th OF.

Because Green is not a CFer and that's where they have him penciled in right now.

Right now, the Diamondbacks need to move outfielders. Troy Glaus is at 3rd base and they re-signed Tony Clark for first base. The have Luis Gonzalez in left, Chad Tracy in right, and Shawn Green miscast in CF. They still have no place for Carlos Quentin and Connor Jackson. Trading Glaus would be ideal for them, but as of yet no takers. They'd probably love to trade Gonzalez, but he's old and expensive. Green may be the best trade chip they have unless they want to move one of the prospects. Defensively, they will have problems with Green in centerfield.

assuming that we do not need him to acquire a RF, I like the idea of sending him to the Angels for a prospect.

Who are some of the Angels position player prospecs who I keep hearing about but then forget their names?
