Jayson Stark reported today that CHC is likely to get Milton Bradley. I would take that in a heartbeat over Cliff Floyd. Much younger, higher ceiling. While he has a reputation of being a malcontent the main advantage to getting Baker as our mgr is that he does well with veterans who are..."moody." Bradley has less power, but gets on base and plays solid defense. CHC does not need more power, they need someone to get on base. Put on top of that that he is MUCH cheaper in salary and may be cheaper in trade.

floyds last 5 years obp: .390 .388 .376 .352 .358 career .361. i think floyd gets on base pretty well himself.

What if you got Bradley, and Floyd, and Mench? A LF platoon of Murton and Floyd, a RF platoon of Bradley and Mench, would be wicked. And the bench would be strong each and every day.

Texas seems to like Patterson for some reason, so Patterson + Novoa for Mench? Walker for Bradley and Wuertz for Floyd as part of the earlier three-team scenario (Boston needs more middle relievers)?

Don't forget that we're acquiring Mench to send him to Oakland for Zito. :D

Will this be the year Bradley can play a FULL season? Because he hasn't yet. Don't get me wrong, I like Bradley and what he brings to the table, but his injuries should be cause for concern, especially with the walking wounded this team fields.

I was thinking something like Floyd, Pierre and Bradley or Wilkerson, with Murton as the super-sub. Murton should get lots of AB's since Floyd and Bradely may miss some time and Floyd can give Lee a day of rest from time to time @ 1b.

This lineup could drive in some runs ~~ Pierre, Bradley/Wilkerson, Lee, Floyd, ARam, Soriano, Barret, Neifi/Cedeno

murton needs to play every day or he will turn into the 2006 version of dubois.

Since when? I don't think old "Players Manager" Dusty did to well with "moody" veterans like Sosa, Alou, Hawkins or Mercker. That's why they're former Cubs.

I'd much rather have someone like Wilkerson than an injury-prone, ticking time-bomb like Bradley.

I disagree. He's better than Dubois, for one. They have to give him lots of time, which they can if they get 2 more OF, something like 350-400 at bats.

The problem is this team isn't good enough to risk Murton's downside, yet. Had Hendry chosen to make substantial improvements to the more glaring holes on the team, I'd be ecstatic about letting Murton get 600 PA this year. But Jim chose another route, he chose moderate improvement over major, and this team isn't moderate improvement away from greatness. Given what they have right now, I'm not comfortable with both Murton and Cedeno in the lineup (especially when you figure Cedeno's backup is Neifi and Murton's is Mabry).

Murton >>> DuBois

Seems like he'll hit regardless of Dusty's sporadic lineup decisions.

I'd take that, minus Soriano anyway. I'm not sure the Cubs could afford to take on Floyd, Bradley/Wilkerson, Pierre AND Soriano. Especially if they still want to upgrade a starter.

Bradley doesn't have much of a platoon split, so if you get him, then I probably wouldn't go after Mench. Assuming you get Floyd and not Bradley, here are a couple FA OF's that might be useful in a platoon, with their OPS v. LHP:

Dustan Mohr: .907(125 PA's *Coors*), .815(388 PA's *No Coors*) in '02-'04

Gabe Kapler: .877(35 PA's), .839(266 PA's) in '02-'04

Both are average to good defenders at the corner OF spots.
