  1. Considering that Perea is 6'8 I'm guessing a 7 footer should be able to score on him. :P It wasn't just the height advantage- Woodbury has a lot of offensive skill for a guy his size and age. The matchup wasn't quite as lopsided in the second half, when Perea was more aggressive on the glass, but he's miles behind Woodbury offensively right now. As far as long term potential, though, at this point it's no contest athletically. Perea is an absolute freak athlete. Whether or not his skills catch up remains to be seen.
  2. Is he? Or is he a tall wing type (a la Watford, but better)? I haven't seen him play, but if he's a perimiter type power forward, I still think IU needs more big guys. Edit: Just to be clear, this is in no way meant to be negative to Lyles, who is evidently an oustanding player that any team would love to have. He's got some good post moves in this video (with a few drives and a couple outside shots sprinkled in-the sound doesn't add anything to the video). I have no idea if he'll be able to do that against college players but he could still grow a little bit as well. http://www.insidethehall.com/2011/01/08/video-2014-indianapolis-tech-forward-trey-lyles/ Good to see him inside that much. Anyone that puts up 18 points and 12 rebounds in Indianapolis as a freshman can play, no doubt. I just have completely unfounded concerns that, with his diverse skill set, there may be a bit of "have to show the skills to the NBA scouts" thing going on (which is always a euphemism for hanging out on the perimeter and hoisting jumpers and eschewing most/all post play). Trey is a really big 3 right now. I don't see him ever being a prototypical 4, but much more like a Danny Manning- type player. That's not to say he'll be Manning, of course, but he is very skilled with the ball for someone his size. He's also not super athletic which is also reminiscent of DM.
  3. This leaves them 2 over in 2012. Delaney's not gonna like that. I'd be surprised if that's still the case two weeks from now. At least one transfer will happen this year, and with another after next season (seems to be the going rate around college basketball anymore) the scholly situation isn't nearly as dire as people make it out to be. Also, it's looking more and more like Jurkin will spend an extra year in prep school. Viewed through that lens, I'm sure Crean will be looking to sign 3-4 more players in the next year
  4. Stealing from Macy's? Really? Looks just awful if true.
  5. On the other end of the spectrum, Perry Jones is returning to Baylor for his sophomore season. I would've lost that bet.
  6. IU got a visit today from Jamari Traylor., PF originally from Chicago and now at IMG academy. There is a scholarship available for 2011, but after that things get a bit murky. Looks like one transfer this year on the way, but that 2012 class is going to require another transfer or a year of prep for someone (Peter Jurkin, possibly?).
  7. Mike Quade for president.
  8. Two good games tonight. BYU just rushed that possession/ missed the bunny.
  9. That was ridiculous.
  10. I've heard conflicting eyewitness reports on how good he is but it's nice to have another player that highly ranked. With his height he still has plenty of room to fill out as well. I've seen him quite a bit, and he is very skilled. He shot 40% from 3 this year on a team that still doesn't give him a ton of help. A lot of people say he "drifts" or loses focus, but I think a lot of that is just his demeanor and how easy he makes things look. He's not the athlete that Gary Harris is, but he's probably a bit more versatile due to his size and ball handling skills. The only times I've seen him look disinterested is vs. inferior competition or when he's forced to play with his back to the basket extensively. Otherwise, he's got all the tools. I still think Gary Harris is the better player now and in the future, but Hollowell can be very, very good.
  11. Decent amount of pro-IU buzz around Jeremy Hollowell, who will make his college decision before spring AAU. He would round out a very nice 2012 class for the Hoosiers. As for Gary Harris, he still appears to be down to IU, MSU, and Louisville. Izzo and Crean both caught his regional final game vs. D'Vauntes Smith- Rivera and North Central on Saturday. Not exactly sure how, but word is IU will make room for him if he wants to join that class as a 6th member (if Hollowell commits also). Perhaps an extra year of prep for Jurkin along with a transfer?
  12. They'll storm the court if they lose by less than 20. You guys should poo all over them You really should let it go.
  13. They've been grasping at straws for the past three years, and this was easily their biggest win. Illinois has passed Purdue on their hate scale, as Weber was instrumental in railroading the program a few years back. I understand their enthusiasm, we're public enemy number one in Bloomington now. Yeah... that's just not true. Purdue will always be #1 for most, and Kentucky for the rest. I wouldn't have rushed the court but hell, this program was (and is, quite frankly) so far down that any sign of improvement is going to elicit an overreaction for a while. Let 'em enjoy it, I guess. I'd love to say "hey, we're Indiana and we've been there before," but the truth is it's been a hell of a long time and we've still got a ways to go until we're back. I like where we seem to be going, but one win over a struggling team on an off night is not the top of the mountain.
  14. Because the Jets are scum. Because Rex Ryan looks like tater salad guy.
  15. Doesn't help. IU IS that bad. :banghead:
  16. QFT Colorado? Really? Crean's coaching in the two Vegas games was very...........um............bizarre. Was ESPN's box score right on teh starting lineup for the UNI game? It had Roth, Rivers, and Moore listed as starters. I have to assume that was a screw up right? I still am curious why Moore is getting any tick at all Pretty sure that was a mistake. However, at this point he's no worse than Verdell Jones or Mo Creek. One is a turnover machine and the other has no explosiveness. Neither can shoot right now nor play any D. This team has a looooong way to go. (Like 2 years or so). Big 10 season is going to get ugly.
  17. Lynch out at IU. Damn, who knew we had a football team?
  18. I don't disagree, but their basketball recruiting coverage should improve greatly with Telep. Yeah, I'm interested to see how that works out. I guess it's nice that they're trying, and they really have no excuse with their financial might to be as poor as they are at it. god knows it can't get any worse.
  19. I don't disagree, but their basketball recruiting coverage should improve greatly with Telep.
  20. The word among some of the Indy kids is that Harris is considering moving up his time frame and yes, the buzz is about IU.
  21. I love you guys. I really do. I was trying to add to the conversation, explain that a recruit has an interest in a school, which clearly some of you didn't know. Instead of conversation, we get comments about funny warm ups and quotes taken out of context. This is exactly why I made the point that I avoid this thread. Why not just call it Illini basketball 2010-11? Sycophants. That's a good one.
  22. Lol, this is why I mostly avoid this thread. Illini fans are insufferable. I shudder to think about how you guys would act if you actually won something.
  23. So you spend a lot of time around the Indy area basketball scene?
  24. Because Xavier has been out since they got the commit from Smith- Rivera. It is pretty well known that as of right now it's MSU or IU for Gary Harris. Yes, things can and do change, but that's where it stands. He is quoted as recently as last month saying that he and other recruits were watching the Zeller recruitment and that it could affect where some of them end up. If Yogi Ferrell commits to IU this week, which is a distinct possibility, Gary Harris becomes priority #1 for the IU staff. Knowing that IU and MSU are both held in high regard makes me think that IU has a much greater chance than does Illinois. He might even make a trip to Illinois to catch a game, but I would be shocked if he went anywhere other than IU or MSU.
  25. Agree to disagree.
