  1. There's your sack, Anderson. That should have been #2.
  2. Uh oh. Is it time to start worrying about Robbie Gould?
  3. These touchdowns in garbage time are killing me.
  4. How many TD's would he have if he was returning kick-offs all year?
  5. Adrian Peterson back from the dead!!!
  6. Woah, did Thomas Jones just make a move in the open field to evade a defender? Now I've seen everything.
  7. Lance Briggs would be well worth a franchise tag. The Bears should do everything within their power to retain him.
  8. The Tommie Harris thing is what killed my spirit. I just don't know how good our D is going to be without him in there. The good thing is we have depth. But depth can make up for Tank Johnson or even Alex Brown. Depth cannot make up for Tommie Harris. While I am bummed about Tommie Harris, defensive line is the one area on the Bears in which they can afford an injury. Between Ian Scott and Alphonso Boone, I'm not sure that there is that big of a discrepancy. Tommie Harris is good, but this is an area in which the Bears have quality back-ups. If anything, Tank Johnson has been the premier inside defensive tackle over the last couple of weeks.
  9. Well, the four bad games count as much as the six good games. It's not like those bad games shouldn't count. The troubling thing is that Rex has regressed over the last several weeks. Right now, Rex is playing at a level that is unacceptable. This is a big game for him. Good Rex should be able to put up a respectable performance against a bad team such as the Rams. Even if it's a ball control performance against a team that is weak against the run, that's OK. But if he is throwing picks on Monday Night, I can't think of a reason not to go to Griese.
  10. I disagree ... I would have rather had Meche ... Looking at their age for next year, career ERA+, and career WHIP... Marquis (28): 94/1.428 Meche (28): 96/1.429 Even considering that Meche probably has a bigger upside, I'll take Marquis at 3/20 over Meche and his history of arm problems at 5/55.
  11. I don’t hate this move as much as others on here. Considering the market, Marquis at 3/20 doesn’t look all that bad to me. I'm not crazy about him - his K/BB ratio has dropped each of the last three years, as has his grounball/flyball rate - but he's still pretty young and has been pretty solid two out of his last three seasons. As b_wiggy pointed out, he's a good pitcher if he can keep the ball down. One thing I remember about Marquis last year are the two games in which he got absolutely murdered in: IP H R ER HR BB SO ptch GmSc ERA Jun. 21 @CWS L 13-5 5.0 14 13 13 4 1 3 92 -11 5.53 Jul. 18 ATL L 14-5 5.0 14 12 12 3 2 4 91 -7 5.97 I remember laughing about it at the time, but now... While it's a fools game to play the "take away his two worst starts" card, I can't remember the last time a manager left in a pitcher to get shelled like LaRussa did. That doesn't let Marquis off the hook, he still had an ERA of 5.13 even without those starts. I would be much more comfortable with this move if they had signed Schmidt instead of Lilly, but I don't see Marquis as being a worse option than some of the other alternatives like Jeff Suppan or Miguel Batista who probably would have cost more.
  12. 2 years / 9.75 mil. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-os1208,0,5860222.story?coll=bal-sports-baseball I suppose this lays to rest any kind of Jacque Jones deal (and if the return was only going to be Dave Newhan, thank goodness!).
  13. Sounds like a false alarm. I won't believe it until I hear it from Robothal.
  14. ESPN had on their front page that it was 4/44. Now they've just changed it back to 4/40. :-k
  15. Wow, four "Boom Boom" Bynum trade threads. I've never seen so much excitement.
  16. I don't know about the rest of you, but to me the most exciting ongoing drama about these winter meetings has been the saga of Barry Bonds. 7:02 a.m., from Steve Phillips • Barry Bonds has just arrived at the meetings, and his agent, Jeff Borris, will be talking with teams besides the Giants. 4:34 p.m., from Jayson Stark • Barry Bonds, the mystery guest of the winter meetings, headed off to meet his mystery suitor today. But even though Bonds' agent, Jeff Borris, told ESPN's Steve Phillips that Barry had stopped by not-so-conveniently located Disney World to meet with at least two "other teams," there was widespread skepticism among baseball people we surveyed that he was bound anywhere other than San Francisco. 5:04 p.m., from Jayson Stark • According to some folks who work here at the hotel, Barry Bonds has left the premises and is headed home. 7:12 p.m., from Steve Phillips • Elvis is back in the building! An earlier rumor making the rounds had Barry Bonds on his way back to the Bay Area, but that proved untrue. Bonds' agent, Jeff Borris, plans to meet with the Giants tonight, and Barry's still here at the Swan and Dolphin. Absolutely riveting stuff, although no word on where he ate for lunch. By the way, has anyone checked to see if Jim Hendry has been seen wearing one of these. http://thedisneyblog.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/3012l.jpg I'm sure ESPN.com will keep us attuned.
  17. Losing out on Schmidt sucks, but if the Cubs managed to land Meche and Lilly for a combined $18 million, I suppose it wouldn't be that bad in comparison. Compared to the $16 million for Schmidt, at least one of LillyMeche has got to be pretty good transitioning from the AL to the NL, right ? (Tell me I'm not wishfully thinking.) That's overpaying for sure, but that much has already been established -- no matter who they get, they will pay through the nose. Oh well, I'll hold off on the Hendry bashing for now. We do know that Schmidt wanted to stay on the west coast, and for all we know, Chicago was never seriously an option for him. I can also see why he might have considered Dave Duncan and the Cardinals despite his stated desire. At least he is not a Cardinal, he would have probably owned the Cubs' line-up the 4-5 times a year he got to face them.
  18. Let me get this straight: Earlier today... 12:15 p.m.: Ted Lilly is rumored to be signing with the Cubs. Now... 5:30 p.m: While no meeting has been scheduled, Cubs GM Jim Hendry and Ted Lilly's agent, Larry O'Brien, are expected to get in touch when O'Brien arrives at the meetings this evening. So I go look back at 12:15... 12:15 p.m.: The Cubs are in serious pursuit of left-hander Ted Lilly. Nice one, ESPN.
  19. I would be happy if we could extend Zambrano for that amount.
