  1. When I look at rumors like this, I ask myself, does this pass the "is that something Jim Hendry would do" (ITSJHWD) test? For example a week ago, when I first heard the Cubs were eyeing Mark DeRosa, I asked myself, is that something Jim Hendry would do? The answer was pretty obvious...of course! Sure enough... Likewise, when I hear the Cubs are interested in Gil Meche, well, ITSJHWD? You betcha. Signing a good hitting SS and moving him to CF to accomodate your light-hitting SS that you bought for $5.95 off the dollar rack the year before? Yep, I can see it. But outbidding other teams for one of the top free agents on the market? ITSJHWD? I think you already know the answer.
  2. Same old Hendry and the Cubs, overpaying for crap. Typically, this is what your minor league system is for: not necessarily to produce a star at every position, but to be able to fill out your roster with capable, low-cost players. Yeah, it's great that the Cubs are adding payroll, but Hendry has yet to show any fiscal common sense. These small deals add up. Think about it, you've now got 6.8 million dollars tied up in DeRose/Blanco -- both players coming off career years. Read that again, 6.8 million dollars! For Mark DeRosa and Henry Blanco! Yet Hendry continues to whiff on the big free agents like Carlos Beltran and Rafeal Furcal. When some other team makes the definitive offer, the excuse is always "we didn't want to go that far" or "we weren't going to pay that much." Shyea right. This is why I think it would be almost better for the Cubs to have a 30-40 million dollar payroll. At least then, the Cubs would have to get serious about player development and payroll management. Anything's got to be better than Jim Hendry's annual shopping spree.
  3. We were already versatile with Cedeno, Izzy, and Theriot. Well, now they can lead the league in versatility. That should be good for 10 extra wins or so.
  4. Well, he's versatile at least. Can't ever have enough versatility. It's something they've been missing since Macias.
  5. I don't care for this signing one bit. Cashing in on a career year indeed. Anyone know how he is with the glove?
  6. Harris! Good decision to slide down, too.
  7. It's on you defense. Don't let us down.
  8. Pathetic. Jacobs wasn't even touched.
  9. Probably not, the Bears had great field position for this drive because of where Moose fumbled last time. 19-13 Bears, though. Also subtract 3 from the Giants for that gift that Hochuli gave them.
  10. Nice job by Thomas Jones on that drive. I forgive him for his earlier transgressions.
  11. Fire Hochuli. How can you get that wrong?
  12. Giants go up by 2 scores = game over.
  13. I don't know if there is a player I hate more right now than Thomas Jones.
  14. What is this "shotgun" that you speak of?
