  1. I like his uniform - he looks good in red . . . ;)
  2. Why is the original Peavy thread locked??? I was having fun with that one . . .
  3. really? where is that coming from? At least the second part of that goes against what pretty much every source has agreed on so far... I am not saying that another acceptable club will step in and offer more, but right now a # 1 starting pitcher is on the market and, in Tower's mind, teams are offering spare parts. The pads want more than that and are chatting with other clubs. Will they get it? Time will tell. If the Pads were happy with what was being offered, the deal would be done. But what about all the reports that Peavy had a very limited number of clubs that he would wave his NTC for??????
  4. Huh? That's like EVERDAY in Chicago from June to September . . . ?

  6. Very good! It makes me feel like a kid again watching that video . . . !
  7. My Dad used to use that phrase ALL the time . . . either that or, "better than a kick in the head!" I miss him . . .
  8. Wait . . ., what? Didn't they do last night's game - or am I going crazy???
  9. According to the Trib, the most likely candidate is Johnson: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080624-sean-marshall-reed-johnson-cubs,1,7790755.story
  10. You know what, I'm not gonna lie... up until about 2-3 years ago, I had no idea who Jack Brickhouse was. I grew up with Harry and Steve, and didn't follow Cubs baseball as if it were the gospel until about 2002, so I never really knew who Jack Brickhouse was because no one would ever really mention him. It was always about Harry Caray Growing up in Chicago in the 70s, Jack Brickhouse WAS Chicago Cubs baseball - and Harry Caray represented the dreaded WHITE SOX!!! It took me a few years to get over that and warm up to him, but I eventually did - kind of like what we're all going through right now with Jimmy Edmunds . . . And - for what it's worth - Brickhouse was a GREAT announcer!
  11. That last part just gave me the odd image of him just sitting there across form his wife and son, staring at them intensely. Maybe if he stares hard enough he can make them levitate!! :clapping:
  12. Not that it matters much, but the Cards play the Nats at 6:10 tonight (not the Pirates) . . . but I still agree with your plan! It's June 3rd. You don't make in game decisions based on what is happening in another game. wait . . . what? What does this (clearly sarcastic idea) have to do with the date? Can I make in-game decisions based on what is happening in another game on a date other than June 3rd??? I'd say if it were, for example, October 3rd, and a Cardinals loss clinches the division for the Cubs, then I'd be willing to let that game's result determine whether to leave Marquis out there for 9 innings. Interesting . . . seeing as though both the Cubs and Cards are done on Sept 28, but I get your point . . .

  15. They'll be the Mega Cubs tomorrow if they win tonight. After that, if they win 2 more, they'll be the Ultra Cubs. . . . and two wins after that makes them the MECHA-CUBS! I was thinking "Hyper Cubs", but you know, if they get to 12 in a row I'll do that. Im satisfied with Uber-Cubs and after that? The Meta-Cubs!!! (OK, same thing, sorry . . . )

  17. "Baseball is different from any other sport, very different. For instance, in most sports you score points or goals; in baseball you score runs. In most sports the ball, or object, is put in play by the offensive team; in baseball the defensive team puts the ball in play, and only the defense is allowed to touch the ball. In fact, in baseball if an offensive player touches the ball intentionally, he's out; sometimes unintentionally, he's out." ~George Carlin
  18. Yep, he struck out in ugly fashion. SHIP HIM BACK TO SINGLE A!!!
  19. I missed the game yesterday - did the Hoff get in at all (PH, maybe??)
  20. http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/lifestyle/chi-cubs-westside-grounds-0515may15,0,4915509.story I didn't see this posted elsewhere- A very interesting article from today's Trib on the movement to commemorate the West Side Grounds, where the Cubs won there last World Series . . .
