  1. the only comment from him was a long, sinister laugh. [points to avitar]
  2. Here's my question: In all of this hulla-ba-loo, there has been almost no comment from Jimmy himself. Why? What's his take on all of this? Can anyone point me to a comment from our new bff je??????
  3. and that would be different than one of your usual days how, again . . .??? (I KID! I KID!) :)
  4. Not mine, they could name it what they want, it wouldn't bother me. If the money allocated towards naming rights actually improved the team, then I would rather see that than keeping it Wrigley. Wrigley will always being back the same memories regardless of the name. but the money WON'T go to the team - that's the point. It will all go directly into Zell's already bloated checkbook.
  5. I think that's why Zell has tried to sell Wrigley first, so he can have the team sign a lease with the owner of Wrigley that the new owner would be locked into. So, in theory a new owner of the team without Wrigley could build a new park, but if they are locked into a lease they would be tied to the park for at least as long as the lease is for. Here's a question - in this little scenario (where the Cubs and Wrigley are sold separately, and the new owner is locked into a lease), could the Cubs still build and move in to a new field, and just continue paying the old lease at Wrigley? I mean, would they have to actually PLAY at Wrigley, or just keep making lease payements??
  6. If this thread is going to become the next big thing, then I want in . . . GO GET BRob, er . . . uh, KGreene! whatevs
  7. "swings" left handed edited for correctness
  8. I know I'm in the minority but I still really like Ryan O'Malley . . . (OK, I'm in Springfield, IL and he's a family friend)
  9. Ugh, why? This starter is a righty, as far as I can tell. Either Lou is already going away from him or Pie is hurting more than we thought from the HBP. Either way, I don't likey. N0, no, no guys - you've got it all wrong. Didn't you see Truffle's forecast? Lou's just playin' the odds and hoping to get as many righties in there to hit 'dem balls up into the jet stream . . . (wishful thinking, grasping at straws - hoping Pie's OK!)
  10. I don't wonder. You have proof then? Faith is a fact. 10 points to the person who gets that pop culture reference. Arrested Development - MY FAVORITE SHOW!!!
  11. Seriously, which scenario is worse . . .? 1) You’re down 3 going into the bottom of the 9th only to tie it up in a emotionally uplifting way (F-BOMB!), but then ultimately lose by 1 run in the 10th; OR 2) You’re kickin’ butt, leading 5-1 in the bottom of the 3rd, and the game gets called due to weather thus wiping out your nice opener. You ultimately lose the rescheduled game 2-1. I can’t decide . . .
  12. isn't he a pretty big injury risk??? :-k
  13. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/illinoisnews/story/D098E7968D903AF28625741E003DBDAD?OpenDocument Thank you to NSBB's front page for the tip. For some reason it bugs me to have to read this article in a St. LOUIS newspaper (even though it's a AP article). So . . . here it is (the same words) but in a Tribune article: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/wire/chi-ap-bbn-cubs-rooftopowne,0,4788111.story
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidd_Finch Written at a time when writers (George Plimpton, specifically) really knew how to pull off an April Fools joke!
  15. FWIW - last year's opening day thread was ALSO at 7 pages at 10:45 am on game day . . . NSBB is oddly consistent! :-k
  16. This opening day sucks :(. I would usually just take my laptop to class and follow the game on gameday but the classes I have are not very friendly to laptops. I'll probably do it anyway. I hear ya. I have PE when the game starts. well . . . that's better than having VD when the game starts . . . :-k
  17. Hey, why don't I just go and eat some hay. I can lay by the bay, make things out of clay, I just may, whadaya say? No more rhyming now, I mean it! Anybody want a peanut?
  18. Do the Angels have anything we need/want and could possibly get??
  19. Great point! It's like buying a car that I think has 60,000 miles on it, but Jim Hendry thinks it's a 4 bedroom house . . . Our offers are going to be quite different . . .
  20. I totally agree. The one thing that Hendry and Lou share is that they have a habit of totally ignoring certain players (Murton, Cedeno, Marshall) and obsessing over others (Theriot, Roberts) usually without a good reason. As you posted, sliding Fukudome over to CF and using Murton in RF is 1000 times better than signing Johnson or trading for the likes of Payton, Byrd, Willits, etc. It's not complicated, really. Murton can't play CF. End of analysis. seems like pretty faulty analysis to me. I agree. Keener was not advocating that Murton play CF - just that simple changes could be made, if needed, with the players we have already to cover all 3 OF spots.
  21. I disagree completely. Johnson's production against left-handers is much better than Pie's, which addresses a struggle the Cubs have had for years. Pie's overall numbers also look better if it's not being brought way down by all those left-handers, which makes the Cubs less likely to replace him and gives him a better chance to get a fair shot. I don't like the idea of a platoon partner for Pie. Letting him play only against LHers is not giving him a fair shot. The Cubs have to let him play. This is the same tired old story year after god forsaken year with the Cubs. Wait . . . you mean RHers, right?? And since that's the majority of pitchers, I'd say that IS a fair shot for Pie. Rest him against LHers (that he's going to do poorly against anyway)and put him in positions that he may well excel in . . . Yea I meant RHers. Thanks for the clarification. A platoon is not a good idea for the development of young player aside from it being a terrible waste of assets. How is Pie going to get better if he never (or rarely) faces LH pitching? They might as well trade him while his value is high b/c once he get the "platoon" label he will fetch pennies on the dollar. Bit a platoon COULD help him ease into MLB pitching better, and PERHAPS reach the potential we all hope he has. Lefties just kill him, so I guess I don't have a problem with putting him in positions where the odds are in his favor . . .

  23. Come on, buddy. I don't think you need to worry about filtering or straying far from the topic in this thread. You like cheese? I bet Brian Roberts does, too. He can prepare cheese better than Soriano and can serve cheese from both sides of the dish. And I bet Dusty likes cheese but not the fresh cheese because such cheese may not know how Dusty wants it to taste. He even liked cheese when Hank Aaron liked cheese. Focus ... or don't focus. Just write something. We march onward together. One clumsy band of rumormongers. Hey Brasky! That last line of yours was WAY to good to pass up (points to new sig!) :clapping:
