  1. AWESOME thread starter! =D> =D> =D> If that doesn't fix this team, then NOTHING will!!
  2. If your refering to Cubbiebum, it is both frightening and seizure inducing. I find that sig to be very hypnotic . . . I caoften can't look away . . . !
  3. While discussing the Ankiel injury with a friend, another question came up. What happens when an offensive player is injured while batting? Here is the scenario: In 2005, Normar injured his groin in a game at Busch Stadium. He hit a grounder to short (IIRC) and was thrown out – but he never left the batter’s box. What would have happened if he had gotten a hit? Let’s say he hit a solid double to the gap, but went down after his first step (like he did in 2005). Obviously, the fielders would have time to coral the ball and throw it in to 1st. But could the umps override that play and give the Cubs a hit? What’s the rule here???
  4. that's pretty much what i took from that list as well. i'd take Edmonds over Gathright in a nano-second. The list of guys I wouldnt take over Gathright in a nano-second is very short. Still the only way they would take on Edmonds is if Bradley were to miss significant time or Kosuke were to have another summer collapse. Otherwise, your left juggling playing time between 3 quality lefty outfielders, and Reed Johnsons left rotting away at the end of the bench aside from the occasional pinch hit opprtunity against a loogy or defensive subbing, and while I dont feel that Reed is every day starter on a contending team material, hes too good to be a 5th outfielder. If they wanted to get real creative, they have some options. With Ramirez out (and Fontenot the only option at 3B), slide Soriano to 2B and platoon Reed/Edmonds in LF. You're basically replacing Miles' bat with Reed/Edmonds. That's pretty far fetched and obviously wouldn't happen. Just thinking outside the box, I guess. But that would be the worst defensive infield since 1887 when the Nashville Green Legs fielded a dying grizzly bear and a 81 year old drunken amputee. HAAAAAAA! :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
  5. Thanks: I'll print that out for if/when I loose 720 on the way down. AM 1450 out of Springfield (where I live) will come in stronger than 720 once you get around Lincoln (although you can still get WGN at that point).
  6. Thank you all!!! (Especially Fred!)
  7. Here is what I posted on my Facebook page (a simple statement of fact): "The Cubs are 43-26 against the Cardinals over the last five years, including 2-1 this season." Here is how my Cards fan friend responded: "It's true that the Cubs have had the better teams over the past five years, perhaps even in 2006, when the Cardinal's won the World Series. And if you value victories in April over victories in October, then I suppose that bragging rights reside in Wrigley." Any great comebacks????
  8. Trib confirms Aram and Hoff . . . http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2009/04/cardinals-come-to-wrigley-to-provide-cubs-with-first-test.html
  9. I can't see how you possibly think that that entry is meant for anything except Monday. I mean, Aramis may end up pulled today, but that blog isn't reporting it. If you click on the links to the right, the one dated: Apr. 15, 2009, 10:37 AM, brings this story up. Seems pretty clear it's about today's game. The April 13 timeline of 7:26PM appears to be wrong. But how could someone have commented on today's lineup yesterday? (I wouldn't be surprised is Aram is pulled, but I don't think this is referring to today's game).
  10. I can't see how you possibly think that that entry is meant for anything except Monday. I mean, Aramis may end up pulled today, but that blog isn't reporting it. I agree - this is referring to Monday's game. There is even a comment dated 4/14 . . .
  11. Kind of off-topic . . . but does anyone else HATE the Tribs revised online section? (I know, old news, but with the start of the season, I've found myself pursuing around there more often in the last week or so) I really miss the dedicated ChicagoSports.com layout. At least I could find what I wanted, quickly.
  12. With as quiet as NSBB has been lately, this thread is the most fun I've had . . . !! =D>
  13. OK, I feel like and idiot for not getting this . . . but why is moving a team FARTHER away from San Francisco bad for the Giants?? The Coliseum is 17.5 miles away from AT&T Park, and San Jose is 47 miles away . . . What am I missing here???

  15. the hats in the pic above are from the 4th of july or another american holiday. they aren't what the cubs will be wearing on the road. They introduced the darker hats a few years ago - as BP hats. I love mine! The typical "Cubbie-Blue" is a very harsh color (in my opinion). The darker blue is just simply a better looking hat . . .
  16. Good! I always hated the red billed hats.
  17. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3894847 OK, so now what? Will MLB punish him at all??? How can they? All players had immunity for those tests in 2003. They were only going to be used to determine future testing. well played A-Rod, well played indeed! Touche'. Seriously, though, unless they are going to suspend any of the 104 guys on that list that are still active, he won't be in any trouble with MLB. Agreed. And this is why people hate baseball.

  20. I don't think anyone on this board really needs Peavy - and I doubt many could come up with his salarly . . . ;)
  21. He's going to be on who in the what-what? The new show on Comcast SportsNet from 6:00 AM-9:00 AM with Mike North and Dan Jiggetts. I caught some of it this morning and I was impressed and I'm not even a big fan of Mike North. Oh, OK. Thanks. I was never a big fan of North once he moved to mornings and seemed more interested in dishing with his "zany morning crew" than actually talking Chicago sports. But if you think it's worth watching, I'll give it a try . . .
