  1. I'm down to #20680 . . . but I feel like I've been on the list forever. Not sure when I can expect to get the call, but that's OK, because my plan is for this to happen when I hit retirement. As to the glut of tickets, I can say that - as the father of 5 - I have never taken them to a game. The cost is just too prohibitive.
  2. Bryant batting CLEAN UP!
  3. the dream is over people . . . http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/18145301-573/cubs-2012-stolen-base-leader-tony-campana-designated-for-assignment.html
  4. I'm in central IL! (Springfield) What station is carrying the game????
  5. He does somewhat resemble the not quite mentally there adult son who lives in his parents or grandparents attic or basement that the neighborhood kids always want to play with depsite their parents pleas to stay away from him. Goonies and To Kill a Mockingbird both tell me that he's harmless. Brian LaHair leaves me gifts in the knothole of a tree
  6. Park's closed . . . Moose out front should've told ya'
  7. can you imagine? From DFA to opening day 1B from the Trib: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0405-bits-cubs-chicago--20120405,0,5788806.story
  8. huh, how are you getting 11 ... I'm looking at 5 starters, marmol, wood, russell, dolis, and 2 from the 4 of de la cruz, castillo, corpas, lopez, with 13 positional guys (2 catchers, starting if, starting of, baker, dewitt, mather, johnson). 5+4+2 is 11. If the word of 2 of the 4 making the pen is accurate, it looks like Campana gets to be mascot/pinch runner/bunting enthusiast. From the Trib:
  9. Is this really that difficult of a concept? I like Kerry Wood. I like the Cubs. Therefore, I like having Kerry Wood on the Cubs. How long before Woody becomes the Cubs version of Matthew McConaughey in Dazed and Confused? "That's what I love about these rookies, man. I get older, they stay the same age."
  10. I just got done explaining to my 9 year old daughter (who's favorite player is Reed Johnson) why he won't be back next season. Thanks for making a liar out of me Theo . . .
  11. Goold: "What do you make of these discussions?" Agent: "Why I could make a hat, or a brooch, a pterodactyl. . . ."
  12. 5-foot-11, 180-pounds . . . man, that's a WHOLE LOTTA grit!
  13. I'll bet it has a SWEET panic room . . . !
  14. So, what you’re saying is . . . he knows what we don’t know, and he knows that he knows what we don’t know, but we don’t know what he knows we know, and THAT’S what’s important . . . !
  15. Sveum is so poor . . . when he walks down the road, he wears one shoe. And if you ask him if he lost his shoe, he says, "No, I found one."
  16. Nonsense. Nobody is debating the importance of his appearance today vs. what he actually does as manager. It, nevertheless, takes a pretty weird person to "forget" (or never have it even occur to him) that he would need a suit for this. Obviously it mattered to somebody since he ended up out there in a sport coat. Jesus, how can someone even begin to conclude that I'm attempting to criticize the hire or put into question how he'd be as a manager by pointing out how weird that is. You are giving this way too much thought and importance. No, the people arguing about it are. All I did was point out that it's weird. Weird would be if he forgot his pants or something. I once traveled to Dallas for a week on business and forgot to bring ANY pants (besides the jeans I was wearing).
  17. Jed's has GOT to cut down on the "ahh"s he says between every other word!
  18. I think people would understand that Francona is a very well known entity to Epstein & Hoyer. Then they should know if they want to hire him before starting the process. I don't see anything wrong with them executing a search, all the while knowing Tito is in their "back pocket" so to speak. If one of these interviews uncovers a more appealing candidate, they can go with that person. If not . . . than Tito becomes a viable option. I've interview/hired dozens of people - sometimes I know a person is an option, but I go through the full process to make sure I didn't miss a better candidate that wasn't as obvious.
  19. Given they would get nothing or little in return beyond another bad contract, I am inclined to agree with this. If he can pitch, he should pitch for us. I have a hard time believing that the performance of other players will diminish just because Z is on the team, and might say mean things to players from time to time. These are millionaires at the top of their field. Are we saying that can't handle his mere presence?
  20. I know the game, I know how to play . . . would I make a good manager?
  21. My live feed from CSN Chicago keeps starting and stopping . . . AAAAHHH!!!! HELP!
  22. David, all these big organizations, they write off everything You don't even know what a write off is. I wish I had the last 20 seconds of my life back
  23. I'm on the Red Sox email list and - I KID YOU NOT - I just got an email from them with this subject line: "Break into the BIZ with the Red Sox!" Looks like they are taking a decidely open approach to finding their next GM . . . ! :-)) :-)) :-))
  24. Instead of watching the Cubs-Cards game last night, I decided to watch this .gif for three hours. I think I made the right decision.
