    He's certainly the best option available if Lou feels we really need a spare MI. Besides, it's not a smart use of valuable resources to trade for a backup MI. Would giving up Marmol be worth the value a guy like Barmes would give us over Ronny? Certainly not. I agree, trading in this situation isn't really a good option. But my concern is whether RonnieC can improve his offense whilst sitting on the bench . . . I guess we'll see. As far as a backup MI, I know he'll do fine defensively - and he's cheap!

    I think I'm missing something in all of this. Isn't Center Field a pretty important defensive position??? (not to say that they all aren't important, but some are just, well, more important) Now all of a sudden we want to take a former second baseman, who played one year in left and hand him the reins of center. And if that doesn't work we want to take an effective shortstop and move him up there. I don't just get it??? Is this all to make sure there's room for Pie?

    Thanks fer yer kind werds Perfesser Woo! I ser hopes my Rgement now meets wit yor aprovel! :lol: You assertation that Sammy carried the team through it's dismal years is funny! Oh, to be the King of Crap like Sammy was! And if I'm not allowed to assume some things (i.e., Sammy's visable change in body shape and dramatic drop in performance could have been caused by his quick w/d from some unknown substances) then you are not allowed to assume some things. Namely that we wouldn't have made it to the playoffs in '98 and '03 without him (however horribly those two events turned out in the end). We would have had someone palying right field, agreed? Maybe we would have not only made the palyoffs, but gone on to win the WS w/o Slammin Sammy - we just don't know . . . And so I guess neither one of us really knows the truth, eh? Sammy is God - Sammy is a tool. All we know for sure is that not one GM wanted him enough to even ask nicely fpor his services! What's that say about your hero??? I'm uncomfortable with all the worship - that's all . . .

    OK - many folks on this board claim that there is a mighty anti-Sosa bias abound, but I think it is just the opposite. I think many posters here (see the thread on the top 5 Cubs of all time, in Baseball Discussions) are all too quick to ignore the person that Sammy was (arrogant, self-infatuated, and prone to putting himself above the team) in favor of being blinded by his home run total. A total, I might add, that many believe was perhaps inflated thanks to "other" substances. A good player doesn't rise to stardom and and fall from grace that quick unless there is more to the story (see: Bonds, Barry) How can Mr S. go from being a world class slugger to someone not one GM wanted to put on their roster (save for the incentive laden, non-guarenteed contract offered up by the Nats)? Maybe I'm being too tough on the old man, and maybe you are being too easy on him . . . And, BTW - you never answered MY question: When should I pick you up for Sammy's crowning in Cooperstown???

    No, my friend, it's not gay (not that there's anything wrong with that!). And you're right, I'm wrong - Sammy is the greatest player ever to walk on the field. In fact, I'll drive you to Cooperstown for his induction ceremony. When should I pick you up?

    But Mr. Woo, I wasn't arguing. I just put forth my opinion on an ex-Cub player - and then you went after me. And, BTW - the level of man-love you are displaying for a washed up hitter is, truthfully, more than a little uncomfortable . . .

    I asked that same question on this board a few years ago, an someone at the time turned me on to a great option. I live downstate in Springfield, so I take I-55 (the Stevenson) up to Chicago. I park in China Town (22nd St) right of the highway - it's pretty affordable and safe (it's the official China Town parking lot). You pull in, park and the L runs right over your head. After the game I hop on the L and ride it far enough South that by the time I get in my car I can zip right back onto the highway and be home in 3 hours. I've done it a few times now and I'm always happy with it! GOOD LUCK - and GO CUBS
