  1. You are being entirely too negative about the quality of Eyre and Howry. These guys aren't scrubs. As for the money, big deal, at least it's being spent on something here that can help the team, unlike the Neifi and Rusch signings. An improved Cub bullpen is worth an extra 8 to 10 games over the course of a season. That's puts us back to the upper 80 win total category and a playoff contender again. Add a leadoff man and some respectable outfielders and this team is ready to go. Both of these guys are average players who happen to be coming off extremely lucky seasons. Not only were both lucky on a balls in play perspective, but both were well under their typical HR/IP last year. We're committing 7M/year and getting pitchers no better than Wuertz and Ohman. Who knows, maybe they're durable enough to hold up to Dusty's usage patterns. That would be a plus. Whoa whoa. You're saying that Howry and Eyre are equal to Wuertz and Ohman?
  2. I've probably missed it, but based on your stance on a couple other players, I have to ask... who exactly DO you want?
  3. Everything I've read so far is saying that Mizzou will get a bowl, I'd be extremely surprised if they didn't. Granted, the bowl they get won't be any good, but we'll get to see Brad Smith and Co. one more time methinks. Really? Wow, I just assumed that after the loss to K-State and a 6-5 finish, we were done. What bowls are being mentioned?
  4. You're always talking about BABIP. I suppose it's time for me to ask... what the hell does it mean and why is it significant? BABIP is Batting Average on Balls In Play. Basically it's batting average without strikeouts or homeruns(something else minor too that I'm forgetting at the moment). It's significant because it's a basic measure of how "lucky" a player is. A player that has an extremely high BABIP one year(see Rowand in '04, Austin Kearns in his big year, Kenny Lofton last year) they are unlikely to do that again, especially if the rest of his career he didn't approach that mark(Bobby Abreu consistently puts up high BABIP's, he's proven that he has the ability to sustain that and isn't on a 7 year string of luck :P ). There are also ways you can determine what you would expect a player's BABIP to be, using line drive percentage, but those aren't as reliable since LD% isn't very stable year to year either. I'm terrible at explaining things like this, so maybe someone else can do it better, but that's the gist of BABIP. No, that makes sense, thanks. I have one more question and then I'll stop hijacking this thread. What's a player's BABIP in relation to his batting average? Typically higher?
  5. Mizzou's season is over and probably wont get a bowl game. :(
  6. Oh it's not a big deal to me at all, I was just throwing out some random thoughts that I had. If I really wanted to see pictures of scantily clad women, I have a hunch that there are other sites out there that could fulfill that desire.

  8. I just want to throw a few comments out there. 1. Tim's running a business here, and if he feels that he'll lose customers by allowing the hot chick polls, then that's something he has to consider. Of course, he has to consider the fact that he might lose customers by not allowing them too, but I doubt that people are going to stop visiting NSBB because hot chick polls were canceled. Ya never know though, they might leave based on principle. 2. I enjoyed the threads - I love this site and all that it offers and having good looking women here and there made it even better. 3. Who were the people that were complaining? Women? Gee, what a shocker. I hate it when people complain about something that is so easily avoidable. If you're a woman and you're going to be offended by pictures of women wearing bikinis or what-not, then wouldn't it be logical to stay out of those threads? 4. I respect the mods decision, however, wouldn't it have been a better idea to issue a warning saying to tone it down a bit before just taking them down altogether? Also, in the fairness of democracy, how about a poll asking your members/customers what they want.
  9. The game's not on TV, is it?
  10. Jesus Christ, can we at least wait and see if he's signed and if so for what dollar amount before we blast Hendry for "overpaying?"
  11. Well, this officially means that Leicester will be one of the best relievers in baseball next year.
  12. That might be one of the funniest things I've ever read on here. Even funnier if you imagine Len Kasper saying it.
  13. Not really, Bucknell beat you in the tournament. I think "Belmont" might be a better comeback anyways. Let me go on record as saying I freaking despise Quin Snyder. Not fair. You guys never get to the tournament. Hey we made the NIT... oh wait, you mean the REAL tournament. Yeah, well, uhh, Quin's been too busy paying players and having sex with high school girls to actually make our team competitive.
  14. Not really, Bucknell beat you in the tournament. I think "Belmont" might be a better comeback anyways. Let me go on record as saying I freaking despise Quin Snyder.
  15. Hendry hasn't had much luck with signing FA relievers the past few years (Remlinger, Hawkins). With that in mind, I don't see him shelling out several million for one arm.
  16. Why not let Ronny start at SS and spend the money on a difference maker? There's also guys like Lugo out there who is a small step down from Furcal, but much less expensive. I love how you don't even consider Furcal a difference maker. I'm sure there are some people in Atlanta that might disagree with you. On this Cubs team, Furcal alone won't be a difference maker. I think that is what Goony has been trying to say. If the Cubs sign Furcal but miss out on a Giles-like upgrade in RF, the Cubs won't have any better of a shot at making the playoffs than they did this season. That's absurd. Furcal is much much MUCH better than Neifi, who was the primary shortstop next year. You're essentially saying that if we don't sign Giles, or someone of similar production for RF, then we wont have a chance to make the playoffs? That's nowhere near the truth. EDIT: I see this has already been covered.
  17. He also wears his hat sideways and likes to rap. Once he gets here, if he says the words "wiggly feel" I hope he gets benched.
  18. He made 3.7M last season. I thought I heard someone on this board toss around a 6M figure for his 06 salary but I can't confirm that. That's a pretty hefty raise in arbitration. I wouldn't imagine it'd be over 5, given his down year in '05.
  19. It's good to see that Hendry is finally set on getting a leadoff man. I wont complain if Pierre is our CF next year, especially considering the crap that we had out there this past year.
  20. We know that Dusty doesn't like Hairston, and with Dusty's stepson Neifi on the team, Hairston probably wont get any time at second. I would think that Hairston has some value in the trading market, but I'm not sure which teams are looking for a second baseman/pinch hitter.
  21. I'm under the assumption that we wont sign Giles, so my main hope is that he goes somewhere besides St. Louis. If we do sign him, fantastic. But if not, it wont come as any surprise.
  22. He's arbitration eligible, right? Where do you see Hairston fitting into the plans for next year? Will he be traded? I haven't heard much talk about him at all this offseason, so I just wanted to get some input on JHJR.
  23. Barry Zito has a mediocre fastball and a knee-buckling curveball. He ocassionally mixes in the change, but not too often. Funny that Hill has similar stuff, and still K's people at such a high rate. If Hill has the mental makeup, he can be a very effective pitcher, IMO. His curve is good and I think he CAN be an effective pitcher too, but not until he develops another pitch. You aren't going to be successful when you only have two pitches.
  24. Why is Hendry so adamant about not trading Hill? He has two pitches - a fastball and a curveball. The dude is simply not that good.
  25. Probably been discussed by the freshman on board, but... M-I-Z... Z-O-U!!! Even though I got rained on, I'm glad I got to see Bd. Smith play a great game in his final home game. We won the last home college football game I ever witnessed in my college career... I'm happy!
