  1. Ahem. I know what you regular minor league forum contributors are saying to yourselves in light of me winning the contest... and the answer is yes, I'll gladly share my incredibly insightful thoughts with you on a more consistent basis. I can't believe I won. I guess I know more about the minor leaguers than I thought!
  2. Holy crap... I won?! That's ridiculous! What exactly is a game-worn jersey swatch holder?
  3. Isn't today the deadline to trade Greenberg?
  4. Those probably influenced Farn's price Oh I'm sure they did, but I'd definitely rather have Eyre or Howry at their cost than Farnsworth at 5. If a GM gives the Farns 5 million dollars, Hendry will look very good in the contracts that he gave out to Eyre and Howry.
  5. Wow. Makes Hendry look like a genius for the Eyre and Howry signings.
  6. It was a photoshop job. How do you know that? Look at the pic closer. If it were on tv the video would be floating around. No thanks - that's one picture that I definitely don't want to look closer at!
  7. It was a photoshop job. How do you know that?
  8. Don't forget about Steve Trachsel - he was on that team as well. And for some reason, I always liked Jim Bullinger. Maybe it was cause he was so goofy looking. And was '96 the year that Castillo was an out away from a no hitter in that night game at Wrigley?
  9. That's not it at all. I was simply looking for insight into the way he/she thinks. Fair enough. I've noticed that people have been much more argumentative on here lately (not necessarily you) and just thought the comment was out of line. Now that I understand where you were coming from, I realize that I was wrong.
  10. Easy buddy, I wasn't implying that you were wrong or anything - I was just under the impression that the Yankees had had the highest payroll for quite some time and was curious which teams actually had higher ones. Thanks for the clarification though.
  11. Really? Which team had a higher payroll during the 90's when the Yankees were on their run?
  12. Who cares what anyone's degree is in? We're here to talk about the Cubs (I assume that of everyone) not talk about resumes.
  13. He only played 7 games at short, only started 5 of them. He now has 3.136 years of ML service time, meaning he is eligible for arbi for the first time. Yeah...I wasn't exactly sure how long he'd been up to the big leagues......and regardless of how many games he had at short, a statement of "he ended up playing both 2B and SS for the A's this past season" is an accurate one. However "he was signed on as the backup for Crosby on the 05 season" is not. He was signed on as the starting second baseman (to split time with Keith Ginter), Marcus Scutaro was the backup shortstop from day 1. Thanks for the correction.....please continue to serve your fellow NSBB members and continue to look for menial statements to correct them on. I guess that makes you feel "bigger". It's one thing if a stat is posted incorrectly.....but let's attempt letting the not-so-trivial tidbits slide by? OKAY? Thanks!! He was just setting the record straight, don't take things so personally. I understand where he was coming from - not setting the record straight......the same thing goes on with almost every member on here.....attempting to start a feud and patting themselves on the back after they think they "won". My point is....WHO CARES? If I posted Mark Ellis had an .obp of .390 last year, then correct THAT. Splitting time with another player at 2B DOES contstitute a role as a backup middle infielder. Relax man. Geez.
  14. I can't believe that something as far fetched as this has made for 7 pages of discussion.
  15. I'll take your word for it - I've never heard of the site. First impressions are key though, and based off of the fact that the first thing I've heard from this site is that Furcal will get nearly 20 million a year, I'd say that I wont be putting much stock into anything that comes from it.
  16. A friend of mine bartends in west county and she constantly got hit on by Brad Thompson. Finally, after he just couldn't take hint after hint, she told him that she didn't date guys that looked like they were 12. Brad hasn't been back to her bar since then.
  17. 1. Felix Pie +10 +10 2. Rich Hill +10 +6 3. Ronny Cedeno +10 +10 4. Mark Pawelek +10 +7 5. Renyel Pinto 6. Sean Marshall +10 +10 7. Ricky Nolasco +10 +10 8. Eric Patterson +10 +7 9. Ryan Harvey +10 +8 10. Brian Dopirak +10 +8 166
  18. Riiiiiight. Geez, what happened to only posting credible information? EDIT: LOL, and after skimming through the thread, I see that some people are worried that it might be true. To those people - I wrote the word gullible on your ceiling, have a look.
  19. On a somewhat related note, is it possible to have it where when you click on a thread, it takes you to the last post that you viewed? It's a real pain in the butt when you leave off at say page 13 only to have the thread be up to 30 pages on your next visit. That and it's impossible to remember where you left off.
  20. Wow, that was a ridiculous thing to say. This has hardly been 18 pages of complaining. I've seen a lot of the space used for questions, clarifications and praise. But it's good to see the spirit police spring into action to try and haul in those evil people who have the audacity to question a move made by the impeccable Cubs management team. I've read the thread, the majority of it has been complaining. Spirit police? LOL. No, it's just that no matter what Hendry does (or doesn't do) he gets slammed for it, and frankly it gets old. Signing Howry will make our team better. The specifics of the contract may not be ideal in your eyes, but answer me this: when was the last contract that a Cubs player signed that you thought WAS ideal? well, the team has sucked the last two years w/ a very sizeable payroll, so i don't think it's crazy to say they've made more than their share of bad decisions. i don't understand why gm's get the benefit of the doubt just because 'it's their job'. people suck at their jobs sometimes. and you're not talking to me, but i'm pretty happy w/ the lee & ramirez deals. I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt - I'm praising him for signing two quality relievers. And yes, I know GM's sometimes suck - trust me, I'm not Hendry's biggest fan by any means. He's sucked in getting a leadoff man for two years, he sucked at handling the Sosa situation, he's sucked at resigning mediocre (at best) veterans, etc. Hendry has a plan to improve the bullpen. So far I think he's doing a pretty good job of it.
  21. Ideal, or good? I really liked the Lee and Ramirez contracts. What gets old is the Cubs making the same old mistakes and ending up with the same old results. Money matters. The contract details matter. Contracts signed today will be used as excuses for contracts not offered in the future, that's just a fact. And for the record, I don't believe I've said one word about Howry's supposed contract in this thread. I thought you were outspoken against the Ramirez contract? Perhaps not, but that's really neither here nor there. I know money matters and I know years matter, but you often times have to "overpay" to get what you want. No one is saying that Howry and Eyre aren't good pitchers, or at least haven't been recently. And if these guys wind up not living up to their contracts, who's to say Hendry wont trade them like he did Hawkins? Howry (if signed) and Eyre might do well, they might not. But I think I'll wait and see before I blast Hendry all over the place for upgrading our bullpen.

  23. Wow, up to 18 pages of people complaining about a possible move that will no doubt make our team better? The negativity on this board has kicked into over drive this offseason.
  24. Whoa whoa. You're saying that Howry and Eyre are equal to Wuertz and Ohman? Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Ohamn career era - 4.17 Eyre career era - 4.52 Wuertz career era - 3.96 Howry career era - 3.58 Derrek Lee career OBP - .363 Ryan Freel career OBP - .369 Aramis Ramirez career OBP - .329 Bobby Hill career OBP - 343 So are Lee and Freel equal? Are Ramirez and Hill? You can't just look at a player's career stats and tell me that they are one and the same at the current stage. Interesting effort, but don't you think that ERA is a bit more encompassing a stat for a pitcher than OBP for a hitter? BTW - I wish we had Freel. ;) Perhaps, but you're missing the point that career stats don't mean near as much as recent stats. And I'm a big Freel fan myself. I'd love to pry him away.
