  1. It'll always be SWMS to me ;) Me too. Well, SMS, but you get the point. Man that pissed me off when they stole our name like that.
  2. Brian Giles needs to be the #1 target. And if we have to overpay, then so be it. Sometimes you have to overpay to win. I'd like to see Giles, Murton, and Lofton in the outfield next year.
  3. We played them tough last year, losing 28-20... in Texas. So we might have a shot. That said, I'm expecting us to get the crap kicked out of us. I'd like to see the goalposts come down one last time before I graduate though, so hopefully we can pull off the (enormous) upset!
  4. I hope that doesn't happen.
  5. I have a question... why do you guys call him "riot" when his name is pronounced (I believe) TARE-eoh?
  6. Why are we even talking about closers? Dempster has been flat out filthy in that role, he wants to stay here, and he shouldn't be too expensive to keep.
  7. Macias makes me want to go buy a punching bag.
  8. Wow, Williams has given up just 3 hits over 6 innings? Impressive! LOL, Macias is leading off again? That's unreal.
  9. I don't need a WARP1 statistic to tell me who the better player between Patterson and Pierre is. I'm not advocating that we go out and acquire Pierre, but if we do, it'd be an upgrade. No question.
  10. It's certainly not a bad thing. To me, it's just a bonus. But Corey's superb slugging percent for half of a season hardly makes him near the player that Pierre is.
  11. Patterson has been fairly good for a CF in the past?? LOL!!! He's had one fluke six week stretch of good baseball in a 5-year career. The opposite holds true for Pierre because already in his career--he came up to the big leagues the same time as Patterson! (2000)--he has three times put more than 200 hits up in a year, three times put an OBP of 360 or better on the board out of the leadoff spot, and EVERY year (including this one) put 45 or more SBs on the board. He had an off year. The evidence suggests he's capable of much more, unlike Patterson. Kess, I do not often agree with you, but if the choice is between CPatt and Pierre, give me Pierre every day and twice on Sunday. That isn't what I was saying. Offensively, Pierre and Patterson have been nearly equivalent the past 2 years. Patterson was better(albeit for a shorter time) in '03, and Pierre was slightly better in '04. Now both have done TERRIBLY this season. Why are we clamoring to trade for one to hit leadoff, and trying to cut the other at all costs? Unless you're taking their slugging percentage into consideration (which I don't see the point because Pierre is a leadoff hitter) then Pierre CLEARLY had the better 2003. He had a higher average (.305 to .298) and a higher OBP (.361 to .329). Pierre was far more than "slightly" better than Corey last year. Corey (AVG/OBP): .266/.320. Pierre: .326/.374 And I'd hardly say that Pierre has been terrible this season, especially if terrible is the word used to describe Corey's season. Pierre's batting average is higher than Corey's OBP. To me, there's no question that Pierre a much much better player. And it's not even close.
  12. I needed a break from writing a paper for my corporate ethics class, so I looked at some numbers. I couldn't find anything that broke it down by inning, but Yahoo breaks it down by number of pitches. For pitches 1-15, our starter's ERA looks like this: (Player, 2004, 2005) Maddux, 2.93, 6.67 Zambrano, 4.50, 9.00 Prior, 7.02, 5.40 Wood, 2.51, 2.25 Rusch, 4.56, 6.00 Clearly, with the exception of Wood, our starters as a whole are not very good in the first inning. What's the cause? Too few warm up pitches? Too many? Bad coaching?
  13. I hate the fact that seemingly every stadium is now "Corporate Stadium."
  14. 4-3. How big was Murton missing that ball in left? Wow, Neifi with the hustle! Cubs 4? Edit: Nevermind... ESPN.com is a good thing. Macias and Neifi 1-2?! Good God.
  15. bradley is a major head case (not to mention a wife beater). no thanks. He's also one of the most productive CF in baseball, is reasonably cheap and pretty young, not to mention possibly available. 1. Lofton has been "in for a decline" for several years now, and it just hasn't happened. 2. You really think Hendry would go after a guy like Bradley after dumping all the "problem players" last year? I don't see it happening.
  16. Does anyone have his numbers out of the pen this year? Not counting today's game: 4-0, 1.99 ERA, 54.1 IP, 44 H, 1 HR, 24 BB, 47 K Nasty. Thanks for posting the numbers!
  17. Does anyone have his numbers out of the pen this year?
  18. Didn't he say from day one that he'd explain his story? It sure did take him awhile to concoct something. Naming Tejada, what a POS.
  19. Fun fact: Best ERA in the American League? Cleveland Indians. I was shocked when I heard that Millwood had the best ERA in the league the other day. That signing worked out pretty well!
  20. That's the perfect plan. I think insteead of an all-or-nothing "x amount of money if he reaches x amount of PAs by the end of the season", the million per 100 would be better, IMO. I think he'd be much more open to that. Absolutely. It's a win win for both sides. If he stays healthy all year, then he'll wind up making more this way than he would if he just signs a 4-7 million dollar deal with no incentives. Hell, throw in another million for an All Star appearance, another million if he hits .300, etc. I'm sure that if Hendry came to Nomar and his agent and laid out a plan for a 2 million base with plenty of incentive opportunities, they could agree on an incentive plan.
  21. Good to see Maddux still alive in his quest for 15. And props to Neifi for another solid game. I know it's popular to bash him, but let's give credit where credit is due.
