  1. Oh my God... Glendon! If something specific happens tonight, I'm going to be freaking PISSED that I sold my tickets to this game to a Cards fan!
  2. Does this mean that I might get to see Murton play tomorrow? Nah, probably not.
  3. He is looking like he is back to the same Nomar of all-star caliber. We are soooo darn patient with a pin-head like wood yet anybody else is traded or released. I do hope we can sign him cheap, but what is cheap? 2 million base salary, with an extra million for 200 plate appearances, 300, 400, and so on. Give him another million if he makes the all star game; an extra million if he hits for a certain average or higher; etc. And you know what? If he gets hurt again, then we'll have Ronny Cedeno waiting to take his place. That'd be my ideal solution for SS, at least.
  4. Walker is upset that the Cardinal's announcers were praising the Cardinal's manager? Ummm... Todd, shut up.
  5. You've got to be kidding me. I was at the game, but I was in a drunken stupor and didn't catch that... or that must've been after we left. Dustbrain REALLY pinch hit Macias for Cedeno? And there's talk of his contract being extended?! Sometimes I really just feel like punching something. Yeah, Dusty PH Macias with the bases loaded in the top of the 9th. That's got to be a big boost in confidence for a rookie being replaced by Jose Macias in any sort of critical situation. Unreal. Simply unreal. I'm glad I didn't stick around for that, otherwise the people with kids who were sitting in my section probably would have given me some very mean looks.

  7. Wow, what a crappy game to attend. My record is now 2-2 on the year.
  8. 6 pages into the thread, so I have no idea what the topic of discussion currently is, but... If Dusty Baker is given an extension, I wont spend a single cent on Cubs merchandise or tickets next year, and it'll take a LOT to get me to even watch a game. Oh man, what terrible news this is.
  9. Agreed. I'd like to see a one year offer extended to Nomar with a low base salary and with a chance to earn several more million if he reaches certain incentives. Cut ties with Neifi, have Cedeno as the backup, and it's a win-win situation for all parties involved... except for Neifi, but who cares about him?
  10. What do you mean? Barrett's one of our best hitters with runners on. I'm signing off in a minute so I can't rehash the whole thing, but Barrett has good stats with men on base. I happen to think that those stats are padded in games where the outcome is not in doubt. GIDP with bases loaded and a weak looking strikeout today. Posted a week or so ago about Barrett hitting with the bags loaded. Average looks good but two of his four hits were in games where the Cubs lead by 5 or more when Barrett batted. Results (Ks popups when Cubs trailing or tied). I think Barrett's numbers in these situations are examples of (and I know a lot of the stat-ophiles don't like this) there being more to the game than just looking at numbers. Fair enough. I don't have the time (or desire at this point) to watch too many games, but his numbers do suggest that he's very good in tight situations.

  12. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?statsId=6787&type=pitching&year=2005 Ah, it was the home vs. away split that was drastic. Thanks!
  13. Fred, when you get a chance, could you post Prior's splits in day vs. night games? I'm going to the game tomorrow and would like to know what to expect, cause I'm thinking that there is a drastic difference, but I can't remember which he performs better in.
  14. *sigh* I wonder what would have been if Nomar would've been healthy all year.
  15. After all them kegs, is there anything left ??? Plenty! Charging 5 bucks to drink off of my keg replenishes the fund.
  16. I have some old friends that are randomly in St. Louis for the next two days and they have invited me to take in the Cubs Cards game with them tomorrow. Here's the problem... the game is sold out and they don't have tickets. I know the Cubs release tickets the day of the game, but do the Cards do the same? If so, what time should we plan on going down there to get tickets? Thanks!
  17. I bet my bank account that Corey makes an out here.
  18. Well, considering Murton can't play CF, it's not exactly a him v. Corey comparison. Regardless, it's criminal that Murton isn't playing, and I really don't care which of the other outfielders doesn't play to get him in the lineup. No, it really is. Hairston can play center and he's being shifted to left so Corey can play his natural position. It's very valid to compare Murton to either of the two.
  19. Wow, I just took a look at Corey's August numbers... .167/.206/.267 That's an OPS of .473 Can anyone say pathetic? The fact that Corey is starting over Murton, given his recent numbers, REALLY pisses me off.
  20. It's like it doesn't even matter how well Murton and/or Cedeno do when they start. If I recall correctly, the past two times they've started, each of them got on base at least twice in each game... and back to the bench they go the day after.
  21. Wow, I didn't realize that you were doing this again, DJaxx. I just tuned in... sounds good!
  22. He started the 6th and gave up 4 straight hits and 2 runs and got 0 outs. Oh I see. I just looked at his stat line and it looked great, so I was a bit confused. Thanks!
  23. Any particular reason why Maddux was taken out after 5 solid innings?
  24. Come on, you know you want to see him kick another guy who charges the mound!
  25. Good thing we got rid of Alou, huh? People can point to a variety of reasons for the Cubs failures this season, but I've said it all year and I'll continue to say it: not resigning Alou was a HUGE mistake.
