  1. Possible. The Jays might want to get out of that deal enough to accept less than normal. In today's standards it's not even a bad deal. A healthy Burnett would fetch as much or more than Bedard imo.
  2. I believe they are asked to mail me a cheque for $50. Seriously I found this, http://www.baywell.ne.jp/users/drlatham/baseball/nihongo/diction.htm ganbare: good luck, do your best. Fans often scream, "ganbare," to their favorite players. I hope we see this often enough this gattsu pozu: guts pose; hot-dogging Japanese-style. After hitting a home run, a batter may punch the air with his fist, thereby striking the gattsu pozu. Japanese sports photographers love to catch this scene on film. Recently, local players have begun emulating major league sluggers who watch the ball sail over the fence before turning toward first base. but I hope THIS DOES NOT CATCH ON rakii sebun: lucky seven; the Japanese version of the seventh-inning stretch in which fans release thousands of condom-shaped balloons Cool....thanks!

  4. Manager Lou Piniella, who called Fukudome a cross between Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui, said last week he expected to bat the new Cub fourth or fifth in the order. Wow. I didn't think he had enough power to bat 4th. I always thought he was a leadoff or #2 guy. Just like OBP isnt the ONLY important thing out of a leadoff hitter, power isnt the ONLY important thing out of a middle of the order hitter. Also, while he doesn't have HR power, he definitely has great doubles power and will probably lead the team or be very close to the lead in 2bs. But it sure would be nice to have his OBP at the top of the order instead of a 330. Yeah I was thinking Roberts and Fukedome at the top too. I wonder if Soriano has made noise about being moved off the leadoff spot?
  5. Why don't we slip that Ted Lilly character into the 5th spot? I hear he's not too terribly bad. How the hell I forgot Lilly is beyond me. I knew something was wrong with what I typed, but this has been a long morning here at work. Chalk this one up to a brain fart. So, yes... Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Burnett, Marshall does look a hellova lot better. With Hart and who else ready when a couple of those guys break down? I want a solid 8 to feel secure about this. Hart, Dempster, Petrick? I thought that they moved Petrick to the pen? If not, that would work for me. Darn that Guzman, man he would have really been a nice addition.
  6. Pay him to see if you can get 3-4 months of quality pitching out of him this season, and then see what you can do about resigning him next offseason. But what if you can't and you now use the money for another pitcher that can have an impact now?
  7. Do the Japanese leagues have a special thing they do when a player hits a HR that is different than the US? If they do I think it would be pretty cool if the fans did it whenever he hit a HR.
  8. I'd love to root for a team named the Carp!
  9. I love baseball. jesus, are cards fans really complaining after being 2 years removed from a world series title? I would be if the Cubs were heading in the same direction.

  11. Allstate? President Palmer says so Which one? The good one.
  12. Allstate? Hmmm....Lou and his coaches are insurance guys, eh? Are they also good neighbors?
  13. I would give Burnett some time off during the season just like Boston did for Burkett. It's a pretty steep deal though and that 12 would hurt if he's on the DL for a long amount of time.
  14. Good because I didn't want to give up Hill for Bedard anyways.
  15. Agreed. Now, if we could just get him to let the players know it's okay to take a walk. That's where Lou takes over. I think the Cubs are in good hands right now.
  16. If this is true it's the best case scenario for your boys. Heck, he might be better than anything Michigan can get.
  17. I'll bet you're happier than a pig in a blanket!
  18. My concern would be strictly about what sort of Plan B Hendry would force upon us if that happened. You're worried about Hendry's "Plan B From Outer Space"?
  19. One of the things Lou may be looking at is baserunning skills. If I remember correctly Cedeno made a lot of boneheaded running mistakes while Theriot is a very good baserunner.
  20. You wouldn't trade just Hill for Tejada, Bedard and Roberts!
  21. Hey Robinson won a couple of Super Bowls and has head coaching experience...give him a try, please?
  22. Ok Monty....is it curtain 1 - 2 or 3? Don't forget to switch after they open one of the curtains with a goat behind it. Ahh man...did you have to say goat? That's the biggest problem with the Cubs. They never pay attention to the statistics and probabilities. :( Then go to Chicago and bug Mr. Hendry for job until he finally says yes.
  23. Seriously? Just strikes me as odd people would even care. We've quashed a number of nicknames for people like Corey Patterson and Glendon Rusch as well. There's a point where nicknames cross the line from being funny and clever, to immature and childish, and even more so...annoying. Think of this as a general rule: if it's in the word filter, it's there for a reason. Don't try to avoid it by getting cute with the spelling. I love the irony of this coupled with the fact that Rusch is used by the word filter as a substitute for an "obscenity." It's used for that obscenity because that obscenity was used as a nickname for Rusch. Rusch pitched like crap today. Rusch pitched like crap today. So it's like "Marquis pitched like Rusch today"? :D More like... look at those nice Rusch in my avatar. Yes young man, I know of which he speaks! I was going for the second definition in the dictionary, the one often overlooked and very misunderstood.
