  1. Is there room to make fun on this sentence? Must be the fire water talking.
  2. That's wonderful...congrats Mr. Hughes!
  3. I would really think about batting Soto 8th for the simple fact that it would be nice to have someone with some power in the 8 hole. I'm not a fan at all of batting Pie 8th because a lot of pitchers tend to pitch around the 8th place hitter by throwing borderline pitches or pitches just out of the strike zone. Pie seems to be just the type of hitter to fall for the "bait" and starting counts out 0-2 when they should be 2-0. I'd go like this (assuming Soriano won't move and Lou will fail to realize that DLee would be an awesome 2 hitter). Soriano LF Kusuke RF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B DeRosa 2B Pie CF Theriot/Cedeno SS Soto C Ideally, this would be my lineup (with Roberts and moving Soriano and Lee around) Roberts 2B Lee 1B Soriano LF--he'll see more fastballs between Lee and ARAM Ramirez 3B Kosuke RF DeRosa SS--even if he plays a terrible SS, can he be worse than Therior or Cedeno? Pie CF--less pressure, might see some pitches in front of Soto Soto C--batting 8th will hurt his numbers, but better than Pie or DeRosa here But batting Pie 8th might force him to have some discipline. Plus, pitchers would go after him since they'd like to have the pitcher leading off.
  4. Hey and maybe after school we could go to Arnold's and get a burger and a shake! What do ya say? Golly gee paw...really?! Can we go to Stark's pond and skip stones, too?? You betcha! (Rubs the hair on his head) That OF would be really good defensively. Yes it would....probably the best defensive outfield we've had in 20 years... Imagine actually having 3 OF's that could throw runners out? And not by accident? I have a feeling the only kink would be if Soriano's leg is a chronic problem.

  6. Hey and maybe after school we could go to Arnold's and get a burger and a shake! What do ya say? The term you wanted to use there was "a malted". Darn! I hate missing those chances!

  8. The thought of Derosa as a starting RF for this team makes me nauseous. Displacing Pie to do so would surely make me heave. It wouldn't be that bad if they had Tejada at SS and Roberts at 2nd but yeah, it doesn't seem to be putting out the best team they can.
  9. He signed with Ohio State since they made the best offer. It looks like he's coming and it's down to 2 or 3 teams but who really knows.
  10. Hey guys can we keep the Theriot thing to just 2 threads and not this one please?
  11. Your guess is as good as mine. If the Cubs land Fukudome, I think they will be more willing to trade Pie especially if Colvin is progressing. Hendry keeps saying Pie is untouchable, but I got to believe if Hendry becomes desperate for Brian Roberts, he'll put Pie in that deal. With Pie, Theriot and the pitcher's spot, the lineup has 3 automatic outs (save for Z). That's why the Riot hits 2nd to stop the auto 3! If Pie goes and Hendry deals for Roberts doesn't that leave a hole in Right? DeRosa, maybe? Oh yeah I forgot. That doesn't excite me at all, who had better numbers...DeRosa or Murton? This whole DeRosa thing reminds me of the Walker situation a few years back.

  13. I would support this as a fall-back strategy. It's certainly a better idea than Geoff Jenkins or Raul Ibanez. Green should come fairly cheap. I have a bobblehead theory that has to work. I own 2 that I have from cereal boxes and they are....Sammy Sosa and Shawn Green. Sorry folks, it's going to be a Green Christmas. So what you're saying is after we deal Murton in a Roberts trade, we're going to sign Shawn Green and Sammy Sosa to platoon in right? No no no...the passing of RF from one to another!

  15. Hmm. I'm torn on this one. On one hand, Chow deserves a shot at a head coaching job, but on the other I have no desire to see him leave the Titans. Selfishly, I hope he sticks around and continues to develop Vince, but if he gets the UCLA job, good for him. It's got too much potential to pass up. You keep him, I'll take Petersen (pipe dream?) or Mendenhall. We can all be happy. No June Jones?
  16. Possible but it may also hurt him to showcase his talent in 2008. If he gets lit up it'll look worse and if he can rehab and just throw bullpen some team will see his potential and give him a decent deal.
  17. Poor Theriot....even among misfits he's a misfit.
  18. Here are some of the new stadiums the Marlins are looking at: http://www.plumbersurplus.com/Cat/Toilets/990
  19. Wow...I take it he hasn't signed on the dotted line yet?
  20. Hmmm. San Diego loves their Padres, even if they fire sale it up on occasion. Do they fill Petco when they are losing?
  21. Without looking it up, I think Bedard is younger than Hill. He's more established in the tougher league. Bedard does better without his good stuff than Hill does- hence the "Hill is too inconsistent" theory. I can't help but wonder if Bedard is damaged goods. So what if he's the leading seller at the jerk store. How can you trade your best pitcher, who's also young unless you get a really good haul in return. Maybe he hates the organization that much were they want to get rid of him? I agree it's possible that he has some possible injury but the O's might be playing a Hendry here and looking for team chemistry. Also, by trading him now they get a lot of bang for the buck since he'll have to play for whoever he goes to for 2 years.
  22. Let's face it, the weather in SD is better than Chicago so why go there? I'd go with the fan angle if I were Hendry. Padre fans sleep during the game and that's if they win and Cub fans are a lot more active and support the team attendance wise no matter what. Also, he'd be a God if the Cubs won the WS while if he played in SD and won who'd even know who he was?
  23. Why doesn't Hendry recruit like colleges and give him some "company" when he visits?
  24. It's not a bad place to live... It's not about living there, I'm sure he's talking about a hitter choosing a pitcher's park over a small field. These guy play half a year in a city and can make a permanent residence anywhere. How many of the Cubs players live in Chicago during the offseason? Not many. Most live in warm weather states, or outside of the country, to avoid Midwest winters. Very true, I don't see why weather would be an issue. I'm sure he'll spend his winters in Japan. Unless he is playing in Chicago in April!
