  1. That's an assumption. But him coming back and pitching 10-15 starts isn't? I think I have his past history on my side of the assumption while the other side of it is wishful thinking.
  2. The Cubs spent 2.5/yr on Neifi Perez. The Cubs spent $6 million over 2 years on Glendon Rusch. $3 million isn't much to roll the dice and see what you can get out of someone with the potential of Mark Prior. But he's not staying. Also, wouldn't it be a smart move to not repeat past mistakes? Just because they've made some foolish moves in the past doesn't mean they should continue making them. That's only a good point if you are under the mistaken assumption that keeping Prior would be a mistake. You gamble on potential greatness, or even goodness. Those foolish moves were wasting money on guaranteed crap. Gamble on what? The Cubs pay for rehab the whole year and then he leaves....what on earth are the Cubs getting out of this great potential?
  3. Unless Mora is getting traded too.

  5. I wonder how he'll hit in that park? I really think he'll be a 25 HR 275/320 guy for his first NL year.
  6. I totally agree. I have been a Prior fan for years but I don't see this guy coming back strong anytime soon. When he was good it was hard fastballs and precision control because his fastball was always very straight. He did have an okay curve but it was throwing hard that made that pitch effective. If he would come back this summer, what are the chances of him regaining his 93-94 mph that he needs to be effective, and is their any chance he could regain his control since he hasn't pitched for almost 3 years? If you can't sign this guy for 2 years, do not waist your time and money. 1st post btw Welcome to the forum! I'd like to do a sign and trade if possible.
  7. So the Cubs wanted surgery...then get upset when Prior wants it too? Again, it doesn't add up. The Cubs wanted him to tought it out and pitch. I'm done with this topic. I don't have the energy to discuss the painfully illogical notion a parting of the ways is somehow best for everybody involved. It's a shame, but it's hardly a fluke that something like this would have to the Cubs organization, and the people who run it. What I'd like is to get him to sign a 1 year deal and then trade him. I agree that just letting him leave and getting nothing out of it stinks. I'm sure his people have been in contact with the Padres as well so imo this would stop them from making a deal unless the Cubs have another team interested.
  8. huh? It's what I'd offer. I think he's asking what you're paying him. Is it 2 for 10 with a 1 bonus if he reaches his incentives?
  9. I felt the same way. I'm no scout, and I can't look at a guy and dissect the swing properly. But it appears long to me. Although he also seems to be able to keep his hands back. It's a little sweepy for me but it depends on his hand speed if he can get away with it. I'm very curious on how he'll handle off speed stuff...especially away. Better than Jacque :P ... and for the price hopefully a lot better. For twice as much, he better! He seems like a solid all around ball player too which I like.
  10. All of this is incorrect. All of it. Hendry even came out once in 2004 or 2005 and ripped Prior for coming out of a game when "nothing was wrong with him". They waited until 2007 (!) to have his shoulder properly examined and operated on. I'd like to see this ripping that was done by Hendry. Also, Prior is a smart man and I'm sure he could have had his shoulder looked at on his own if this was the case. There were numerous quotes by Hendry that more or less insinuated he thought Prior was a big baby. I wouldn't call it direct ripping, but it was plainly obvious he shares your opinion that he's really just a wimp. Yeah like jumping to conclusions when a writer writes something, read it the way I want it to be said and then use it as a fact. That just doesn't sound like a solid foundation to base a debate on to me.

  14. I won't boo him at all. The Cubs treated him like garbage. How? Any insinuations that he was soft either came from secondary sources or was hinted at by people like Dusty because Prior refused to tell anyone what was wrong with him. The Cubs gave him every chance and shielded him from a lot of media scrutiny. When stuff comes out from secondary sources, many of those are leaks from people within the organization. Prior was treated like garbage by a front office that never appreciated what they had, and are still living in the stone age when it comes to so many things, most notably that when a pitcher's hurt, he is hurt, and pitching through it only makes things worse. Then when the guy went ahead and pitched through the pain, he's thrown further under the bus and gets called a headcase. It's an ugly ugly divorce and it pisses me off to see just how incompetently the Cubs handled their best pitching talent since Maddux. Hendry seems to bend over backwards for every player and yet a pitcher of Prior's potential he's rough on him? It doesn't make any sense.
  15. The thing I'm curious about is if Pie is really going to be traded and if he is, who plays right if DeRosa is the supersub? If DeRosa is the RF than the Cubs need to upgrade SS. It just doesn't quite fit yet.
  16. Pay him to see if you can get 3-4 months of quality pitching out of him this season, and then see what you can do about resigning him next offseason. But what if you can't and you now use the money for another pitcher that can have an impact now? They aren't going to find any pitcher of any value for $3 million. No but they can use the 3 and some other cash to get one. If Prior's 3 ties them up and stops them from getting another starter plus him being on the DL it ties up their hands to make a good move. Plus, how is paying 3 for a guy to rehab all year worth anything? If Mark Prior were the money hungry chump you wish he was, wouldn't he want to show off he can still pitch for a month or 2 before entering free agency. Nobody's gonna give him a huge deal if he doesn't pitch this season. Jeeze, thanks for telling me what I think. Prior has been a shrewd businessman when it comes to contracts and he knows what will bring him the best value. He doesn't have to pitch this year to prove that and he can throw in his own controlled environment at his own speed and he'll get a decent offer, especially if he's as good as you all think he's going to be. Funny how GM's seem to not be knocking on Hendry's door to acquire him.
  17. I wonder how much interest Hendry really has had regarding Prior.

  19. Possible. The Jays might want to get out of that deal enough to accept less than normal. But they take back Marquis and DeRosa, so they don't really get much salary relief. I guess they get out of all of his '09 salary, but I really doubt that suggested package would make it worth it. But it's easier to move one of the 6's than one 12 too.
  20. I think that (OBP) will be wrong because imo the pitchers will challenge him this year and not nibble as much. My bet is 280/355. Once he learns the pitchers I think it'll go up unless they find a hole.
  21. Manager Lou Piniella, who called Fukudome a cross between Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui, said last week he expected to bat the new Cub fourth or fifth in the order. Wow. I didn't think he had enough power to bat 4th. I always thought he was a leadoff or #2 guy. Just like OBP isnt the ONLY important thing out of a leadoff hitter, power isnt the ONLY important thing out of a middle of the order hitter. Also, while he doesn't have HR power, he definitely has great doubles power and will probably lead the team or be very close to the lead in 2bs. But it sure would be nice to have his OBP at the top of the order instead of a 330. Yeah I was thinking Roberts and Fukedome at the top too. I wonder if Soriano has made noise about being moved off the leadoff spot? Do you think the Cubs should actually obtain Roberts before everyone starts to pencil him into the lineup? That's why it's in pencil, you can erase it. Is there a pencil font we can use? To the right, it's called delete.
  22. I watch about, 60-80 Jays games a year, he won't ever be healthy. Therefore; I want Burnett about as much as I want Gonorrhea. I assume on TV because if not that's quite a drive! I would have to assume Hendry (if this deal is real) has checked him out and is aware of his injuries.
