  1. And I've found my new sig, if it's OK with you. I don't mind as long as you get rid of my see see! Situations determine what you do and if the opportunity is there to take third, do it. Is it always the best thing to do, no. But....depending on the situation it may be advantageous to do so. As you guys said, if Kendall is catching and it's a 1-1 game with a pitcher who is on, that steal of third might win the game if there is less than 2 out.
  2. I'd love to see Ward steal on Kendall. I can just see the SS and 2nd baseman having a beer and shooting the bull until either the ball or Ward actually get there.
  3. When did Tampa get an MLB baseball team? I thought they were some traveling sideshow like the circus or Globetrotters and owned by some Elk club.
  4. He was one hot kid yesterday. We're in deep doodoo right now and it isn't going to get better. There is no way we can make a run at the BE tourney with just 7 guys, at least one that will boost us into the tournament and I hope Donte Greene thinks he's better than he is and goes pro ASAP.
  5. Ya gotta love this: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=2008-02-23_D8V08BL80&show_article=1&cat=breaking
  6. I don't either but I think it depends on how ready he is and how much the Cubs think they need out of the CF position to be able to compete for the WS.
  7. Imo, if Pie goes in a trade it'll be for a starting pitcher.
  8. I'd say there's a decent chance we'll see more than half of these guys make it to the majors. This year's list is a bit on the top-heavy side. Of the names mentioned... Guys who've already been in the majors: Geovany Soto, Eric Patterson, Sean Gallagher, Kevin Hart, Billy Petrick, Jose Ascanio, Jake Fox, Juan Mateo, Sam Fuld Guys who are close to the majors (likely to be in the majors within a year/year & a half): Jeff Samardzija, Mark Holliman, Jose Ceda, Donald Veal, Ed Campusano, Rocky Roquet, Adam Harben, Tyler Colvin Guys who are likely 2-3 years away from contributing: Josh Vitters, Josh Donaldson, Chris Huseby, Tony Thomas, Robert Hernandez In terms of contributing to the majors in a meaningful way beyond being roster filler, that's a bit more of a tossup. I'd say we'd be lucky to get 5 guys out the above group who will be at least average at their respective positions. Interesting, thanks O_O. I just want a guy to be a good everyday starter every other year and for a starting pitcher and reliever to help the team every year. I've seen a lot of guys fly through in the beginning, like Dope for example and then just seem to hit a wall. Colvin just reminds me of the hype Harvey had and then we watched it dissolve as he went against better competition. Samardzija pitches seem too flat to me for him to have success at the MLB level. Fox is out of position. Hart could be a find as could Ceda if he finally decides to either challenge the hitters or find the strike zone. I'd like to see Gallagher get some starts for the big team to get a read on him. Fuld will be a 270-290/350-390 hitter with 2 HR's type of guy that will give you good D. I think Mateo will be an interesting player in the future and may be able to take one of the righty spots in the pen. I see Veal fading away and Campusano's injury from last year worries me.
  9. I've always thought that Murton had good work habits along with being a decent hitter. I don't understand the lack of interest by the Cubs regarding him while being in love (in theory) with Theriot for the same work habit qualities. As I've written before, I think Murton is a lot like Lou when he was a player, without the temper.
  10. I'd say if Soriano's leg is still bothering him, the Cubs will make a deal for Roberts or someone to fill the "leadoff position". After listening to Lou talk about the Cubs lack of speed I wouldn't doubt that they'd push for this.
  11. According to Clemens lawyer that photo misremembers him.
  12. Out of this list of 15 or so prospects, how many/which ones will actually end up as actual MLB players? I've seen these Cub prospect lists before and it hasn't been pretty when it comes to contributing to the Cubs or any other MLB team.
  13. It may be Lou trying to get Pies attention and it could also be him wanting a consistent type player in CF. Pie has more potential but Fuld has been pretty consistant and he seems like a guy you could throw out there and he won't hurt you. Granted, he has no power but he does a lot of things pretty well other than that. He has always had a decent OBP and if Lou is looking at someone who can be fundamentally sound it would be Fuld. He's a very good OF defensively from what I've read and runs the bases well. From what I've read of Pie he makes mistakes running the bases and that seems to tick Lou off, ie Cedeno.
  14. There weren't many home runs onto Sheffield last year, but I know for a fact that Bonds hit the first one of the year onto Sheffield when the Giants came in July. I'm pretty sure it was the same game that Ward got a hurt, a Thursday afternoon game. It's kind of interesting that all the guys mentioned for long HR's have been linked to steroids.
  15. Clemens kids and their nanny were also at this party according to Mac.
  16. Memphis is now into the mix with Prior. I wonder if this includes a deal with the hoops team. http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/10656065/2
  17. Because he ran around the bases twice before the ball got to the catcher.
  18. I don't think this type of attitude would help Pie develop in any way.
  19. I don't like the head first slide because of the high percent of injuries I've seen with players doing it instead of running through the bag. Now, if the runner gets a read on the first baseman and sees the throw is off line he may try to avoid the tag by doing a head first slide but again, it's a risky move but at the same right might avoid a collision with the first baseman which often leads to disaster. I also have to say that I've seen a good amount of runners try to get that extra stride + to reach the bag and have them turn/break an ankle when they stay up as well but the percentage is dwindled by the hurt players sliding into first.
  20. Well luckily this isn't decided by some stupid writers polls and it's going to be decided on the field.
  21. Isn't that the total amount of action in a football game?
  22. It seemed like Bush wanted to Steve Spurrior (sp) the job in the beginning and found out just like Steve did, it's a 30 hour a day 9 days a week job. You just never have enough time to do everything and something is always popping up. When I look at someone that is running for President, I'm looking for a leader, can communicate with other parties, Can see the big picture and isn't worried about straw polls because he or she is doing the right thing. I'm not looking for somebody that was or pretends to be perfect and can admit it when they make or made a mistake. I'm not sure this could happen because when stupid piddly little things come up and the press makes a big thing out of it thus turning the voting public off of a particular candidate annoys me more than anything. These soundbites are a ridicules way of weeding out a qualified candidate imo.
  23. one could argue that the roosevelts, eisenhower and jfk were marginally qualified to be president, and they're all generally regarded as having been good presidents. a lot of people thought bush would be a bad president because of his views and because his inexperience was largely due to immaturity (early life) and incompetence (middle aged life). It is possible for people to be inexperienced and unqualified, and inexperienced and qualified. Experience is part of what goes into making sure you're qualified for a job. It's not necessary to get hired (or in this case, elected), but it should and does help. Obama may appear qualified to you, but I'm not sure he is - just as I wasn't sure Bush was when he ran the first time. Lack of experience was a legit criticism of Bush when he ran and it's a legit criticism of Obama now. Obviously, though, we won't know for sure until/unless he's elected who was right. Bush had his father and Cheney to rely on though. I think having an inner circle like that would help an inexperienced person like Bush. Oh course many would claim that these guys may have been horrible influences but yet they were experienced influences he could depend on. I wonder who Obama would surround himself with and how that might effect the voters.
  24. The missed extra point from that game still bugs me. Vegas had the Cubs at minus 9 that day.
