  1. The White Sox match up well with the O's in a trade in this regard. This team isn't going anywhere and won't for awhile but if they trade for the trusty vets they want it might get them ahead of Tampa......might. IMO this is a move to appease the fan base. The O's will remain crud for many years unless they get some team to extremely overpay for Miggy.
  2. I just don't see this as happening Don. But if it did I would put Damon or Pierre in left and slide Murton to right. I like watching the Dodgers pay a lot of money in a bad free agent market as I've never liked them anyways.
  3. I think it's pretty clear Hendry doesn't view Pierre as a one year rental (though he needs slapped for not going ahead and doing a new contract if that's the case, since it'll be cheaper to sign him off of a down year than if he has a good season this year), I think he'll be our center fielder for the next 3 or 4 years, with Pie being broke in at a corner. And yeah, I can't argue against keeping Patterson and giving him a chance to win the right field job, he's as likely to have a good year as any of the 4th tier free agents we're persuing. And if Wilson will come cheap he's not a bad choice to let him fight with Corey to be the right fielder next year. May the baseball gods bless Cedeno and Murton, because if they don't have breakthrough years, we're screwed... I think it may depend on how much Damon gets this off season with Pierre. Hendry does a wonderful job of getting players and signing them after a trade. I agree with what you're saying but what scares me is Johnny B and his lineup card. He has the chance to make this Cub team into one of the worst hitting teams in baseball and Hendry signing Perez to a 2 year 6 deal didn't help matters in any way.
  4. I'm curious on why writers insist on the fact that Baker doesn't want to be in Chicago. Has Baker ever said that? I agree 100% that Hendry and Baker should be gone if things remain as they are. I still will give Hendry a chance until Opening Day. Baker....I wish he was gone at the All-Star break last season.
  5. "Hendry has had an offer of 2 young prospects for Wilson of Washington for about 2 weeks now. When he was told that Wilson was a free agent Hendry quipped "I knew that" and stormed off grabbing the last 8 Krispy Kremes that were on the counter." Looks like the Cubs are down to one proposal.
  6. I would be fine with Burnitz...I mean Wilson in right. Walker better be kept for 2nd just to have a guy that can hit left handed on this team. Also, since Baker is the manager I see Mabry getting a lot of playing time in left because he brings the Cubs that much needed lefty bat if Wilson is signed.
  7. I think this is a smart move on the Cubs part. IMO a lot of teams might have been unwilling to trade for Patterson because they thought he was going to be non-tendered. Now, if the Cubs are not going to get a impact bat in RF, why bother wasting Pinto and Nolesco on Pierre? This team has no plan then and it's time for Hendry to leave if this is the case. I wouldn't mind Wilson in right and I think it would be a good time to get him if he wants to give the Cubs that discount that they always need a free agent postion player to give them. This way the Cubs would have Patterson, Hairston and Mabry for the OF which wouldn't be that bad of a bench.
  8. I think the Cubs should just let the grass grow in right field and hope no one thinks to put a player out there.
  9. Let's see if the Cubs killer J's can take advantage of this, Jim H and Johnny B!
  10. MLB.com Will this be the big time free agent signing that Mr. Hendry gets....the highly coveted Jones?
  11. I don't think Green would waive his NTC to play in Chicago. From what I understand, he wants to stay in the Southwest. Green started in Toronto and Chicago is southwest of Toronto? Am I reaching here? :D I still think there are many options out there for Hendry and I'd like to see him take advantage of some of these. On that note I'm a little worried Green would want some extra years and/or cash to go to Chicago.
  12. Now Hendry can say...."Hey, I could have traded for Erstad!" after he signs Jones.
  13. You could have had Vasquez 30 cents on the dollar last off season. I think this is a very nice trade for Arizona and now maybe they can trade one of those young OF's to the Cubs.
  14. looking forward to this... You're still optimistic...I like that! I saw the heading and was nervous that it might be a Jones signing. My sarcasm didn't come over well. I was really trying to say "I can't wait for Levine to explain to the lowest common denomonater fan how this move means McCarthy or Garland are now free to be dealt for Tejada". After I reread it it did come over...I just couldn't see that well through the tears.

  16. I would like that deal if it didn't include Wilkerson as it would cost the Cubs less prospects.
  17. The Cubs should keep CPatt and win one for the Zipper. If the Cubs team remains as is or if Jones is one of the choices I would rather have Patterson in right. I really like how Hendry sours on someone and makes them worthless in the trade market....Patterson didn't need the extra criticism to deflate his "value".
  18. Very possible. Beane and Hendry work pretty well together. Not if Ned finds out. So that crack Hendry made about the pretty mouth really didn't go far to nuture the friendship, eh?
  19. Very possible. Beane and Hendry work pretty well together. Opposites attract. Yes indeed they do.
  20. Very possible. Beane and Hendry work pretty well together.
  21. The O's will need a SS and Cedeno is ready. I don't think the Cubs have a choice on this one unless the O's want Theriot.
  22. That's right! Imagine how easy the Rule 5 draft will be next year for the Cubs...no worries about losing any players. Don't forget all...the Cubs have about 143 PTBNL still coming to them.
  23. I thought someone said the A's are moving Swisher to 1st? first/dh. payton kotsay bradley of swisher/johnson 1b/dh kielty will sneak into various places vs LHP Yeah that's what I thought....I just have this wierd feeling that the Cubs are going to trade Murton and player X for Kotsay.
  24. I think Oakland and the Cubs are going to make a trade with the Cubs getting Kotsay.
