  1. Jones for 1 year is somewhat bearable....for any more years then that would not be a smart move in any situation IMO. It is Non-Tender Day so let's see if Mr. Hendry can come up with something better....I hope.
  2. If the Cubs got Vidro that would pretty much seal the Walker to whoever deal. IMO, Wash is a little in a corner with the mulitple 2B's so I think that Hendry could get a pretty decent deal here.
  3. If Washington tells Kerry that he could have a 4 year 50M deal do you think he would drop the NTC? I do.
  4. Well todays the day!!! Let's see how the chips fall and hopefully the Cubs will get the next Ortiz!!! :D Rightfield version of course.
  5. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying. I don't think an arb eligible player can "voluntarily" accept a pay cut to less than 80% of his prior year's salary without his team first making him a free agent. That's what I thought too.
  6. Yeah but what if Jones would like to win 80 games in Chicago instead of winning 68 in KC? I'm sure he'd like to play for a winner.
  7. I would take Reggie Sanders and run away laughing. He's a decent corner OF. Unfortunatly, Hendry probably found some obscure "he has the highest SLG% of guys that hit under .250 during day games in August and September" to justify thinking that Jones is worth more than a ham sandwich. He's awful, and if we sign him, he'll be awful between our best hitters, neutering the lineup every day. Now that you say that maybe Jones is the right guy. :D Headline on NSBB: "Wait til next year Cubs fans because you just got Jonesed!"
  8. HAHA! Good one. I don't know. Don't they have Olmedo Saenz too? By my count, they have: C: Navarro/Phillips/Alomar INF: Furcal, Kent, Saenz, Izturis, Choi, Mueller, Nomar OF: Drew, Jose Cruz, Jayson Werth, Ricky Ledee, Jason Repko, Lofton And they're rumored to be close to signing Reggie Sanders. That's 17 guys. Phillips is either already gone or will be gone via non-tender. Choi will likely be non-tendered as well. Could they be gearing up for a blockbuster deal with Boston for Manny? That might just be the plan. Or....the Dodgers are going to field 2 teams.
  9. You really think if Holla was hitting 270 or better he would have come out of the lineup? He was terrible and Baker kept him in there and there is no doubt in my mind that Baker will do the same with Mabry, especially if the Cubs do not aquire a left bat for right. Dusty says a lot of things but he usually goes back to doing the things he is comfortable with and that's playing the vets.
  10. So much for the Freel idea: http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/9105690 3M for 2 years w/Reds.
  11. This doesn't make sense. Kolb does not "have to" be non-tendered just so the Brewers can sign him to a lower contract. The Brewers can resign him before the 20th to a lower rate than his 2005 contract. If he is non-tendered, he is free to negotiate with any team, including the Brewers, but that puts Kolb in a better bargaining position. I thought a team could only offer X percent lower then the last contract?
  12. I don't see him leaving his father. I also do not want him on the Cubs.
  13. Bah humbug! :D We can get along just fine without you working on Christmas I agree with CiNY.
  14. Don't worry....Dusty will take of that problem for you in regards to Murton. Mabry will be playing LF for the majority of the games until he hits below 200 and then he'll just platoon with Murton. You are a sick, sick man. Me or Dusty? There is no doubt in my mind if Mabry hits 270 or above he will be the starting LF for the Cubs in 06 and get at least 450 AB's.
  15. I think that the Chargers showed everyone how you slow a great offense with a QB that can't move...put pressure on him. Yeah, easier said then done but that's how you beat them. I think the same can be done against USC and if Texas can devise a defensive scheme that can put pressure on USC's QB I think they will win.
  16. That would be a pretty awful outfield, I would think. Plus, I think the Cubs value outfield defense enough that Murton isn't a real option in RF. I thought that Freel played CF at times for the Reds?
  17. Thanks Jeff. I'd like the Cubs to pick up Freel and bat and play him second but I doubt he's go to Chicago since it looks like the Cubs have 3 2nd baseman. Could he play left and move Murton to right?
  18. Does anyone have a list of players that are eligible that may be non-tendered?
  19. Me too. I think that Hendry is going to get a decent OF off the Non-tender list.
  20. I don't think they need Lugo over Cedeno to be a playoff team and don't understand alot of the fascination with Lugo. Lugo's a nice player, but not leaps and bounds better than Cedeno. he had one nice OBP year at age 29. other than that, he screams average shortstop. I tell you this right now, if the Cubs had Lugo and his usual .335 OBP in the two hole all year, and alot of the people chiming for him now would be screaming. Cedeno has an outstanding chance to match what Lugo usually does this year, if allowed to play. I know, a big if. even if not, with Cedeno gone, the Cubs have a choice for 2007. resign a 31 year old average shortstop to a three year deal, go with Neifi, or try to find a shortstop somewhere else when none will be available except Jack Wilson or Izturis. I'd just as soon pass on all three and stick with Cedeno. Keep Cedeno around and there's a real good chance the "proven vet," Neifi, plays. Neifi is going to start on this team somewhere. Cedeno and Hairston will split time while Perez gets his 156 games in.
  21. Boston got Ortiz because of Non-Tender Day, is there anyone like that that could possibly be non-tendered?
  22. Just let Wilson play right. No need for a platoon if he's going to outproduce the partner. Or sign the habitual stop-gap (Sanders). At this stage, both Gibbons and Wilson are scheduled to start in RF for both clubs. If the Cubs really did talk to Baltimore about Tejada would it be possible that they could swing a "Minor" deal involving Gibbons? I don't understand why anyone would want Gibbons. He's got some power but not enough in my eyes to make up for that career .315 OBP. I thought he was better than that? Does he hit righties well because I'd just want him as a platoon guy.
  23. I meant that I wanted both Wilson and Gibbons. That would give the Cubs 5 pretty decent options in the OF, no impact but decent as long as Hendry doesn't overpay for either. In this thin FA market, especially for OF's, overpaying is going to be the only way to land one. Same goes for the trade market for an OF. You are going to have to overpay. It's just the way it is. You're probably right but as UK said, maybe the Cubs could go for a Mora or another overpriced OF that a team can't afford that will be a free agent in a year or 2.
