  1. Victor Conte says that Hairston can run a 4.3 40 now. :D
  2. Hopefully, STL or some other team offers 3. So the Cubs are really interested in this guy? I thought I read he has a problem turning on the inside fastball since his bat has slowed?
  3. Only problem is, this isn't a new rumor or a new offer made by Hendry. It is one that has been on the table for a while and has yet to be accepted by Tampa Bay while they hold out for something better. So don't expect anything to happen on this front soon because there is no reason for either team to do anything quite yet. They are still waiting for the other person to blink. However, if the deal does happen, whenever it happens, I will be a happy Cubs fan. Exactly. It's apparently been on the table for a good week now, so that must mean he was right--Tampa is holding out for Hill, and Hendry won't cave. I don't know, if you're Hendry and you have to choose between Guzman and Hill, it's really a 50-50 crap shoot, isn't it? Guzman would seem to have the higher ceiling, but Hill seems ready to help right now. We're in such a tough spot for RF facing alternatives like Jones, I think Hendry needs to blink as you put it and give Tampa the pitcher they want. Our need for that outfielder is greater than our need to choose between two pitching prospects, IMO. He could be waiting until the non-tender deadline to see if someone like Craig Wilson or even the aforementioned Gibbons becomes available, before deciding to up the ante for Huff. I'd rather have Wilson and Gibbons.
  4. Would Boston be interested in Pierre? I would trade Pierre, Walker, Williams, Cedeno and a prospect for Manny + cash. Then go after Bradley or sign Lofton.
  5. Why is Greenberg there if he isn't playing? I see way too many DNP's.
  6. Yeah, that's a good idea. Personally I think Patterson is best when he's just allowed to hit and trying to be a lead off hitter or a Homerun hitters is just plain wrong.
  7. What bothers me is that Hendry drafted all kinds of young pitching and all the Cubs can get out of it are mediocre talent. I'm hoping that Hendry didn't paint himself inot a corner by overpaying for Pierre.
  8. Who bats 5th USS? Walker? Murton? Barrett? Who bats second? I see Baker putting Sanders 5th if he was on the team. I really don't see Mr. Hendry going after anotehr right handed bat. I think he would rather have a terrible lefty bat (Jones) then a solid righty bat. Do you think Walker is going to stay?
  9. If the Cubs have Mench and Jones, Murton will be the 4th OF.
  10. It's kind of cute how you forget who the manager is.
  11. As would I but he catches the ball with his head and I think that Hendry is leaning towards OF's that use a glove.
  12. What happened to St. Louis's pursuit of Jack? Jack Jones? :D Who's Jack?
  13. I don't think this is true and it's just a writer trying to fit Jones on a team.
  14. Agreed...but it sure does not sound good. Who would you rather have, Huff or Jones? Neither. I think that Hendry screwed up focusing on Pierre and now he is paying for that. I don't know who is available but these choices are ridicules.
  15. This move hasn't happened yet so I'll wait until Hendry actually does something before I jump down his throat.
  16. Only if the Cubs play in Boston or NY. Oh yeah, he said Clemens will wait until late January and Oakland won't trade Zito because they have the best team in the AL and Zito will want 13. Could you explain the part about Zito and 13 please? I don't know what 13 means. Gammons said that Oakland won't move Zito because they have a good team and that Zito is going to want 13M per year and is very likely to become a free agent after seeing what Burnett got.
  17. The old Cowboys vs. Indians thing. While the rivalry isn't nearly as old as Bears/Packers, it has had more success. The Bears and Packers have been pretty bad teams for a long time. Both were terrible from the late 60's until the Bears in the mid-80s. And the Bears have been mostly bad since. The Pack was bad from their SuperBowl teams in the late 60's until the Brett Favre era, and are now headed back down. At the same time, the Cowboys and Redskins have often played with more at stake, combining for 13 SuperBowls with 8 victories since the 60s. The Bears/Pack have more of a history, and I think the Skins/Boys rivalry is losing some steam w/o Landry and Gibbs, but I think it can be argued either way. I agree with that.
  18. Only if the Cubs play in Boston or NY. Oh yeah, he said Clemens will wait until late January and Oakland won't trade Zito because they have the best team in the AL and Zito will want 13.
  19. I wonder if the compensation was allowing Baker to talk to Bradley.
  20. I think the asking price would start at Juan Pierre and Aramis Ramirez, meanwhile we take on Mike Lowell's contract along with Manny's. I'd give up ARam if the Red Sox added that young fella they just got from Atlanta.
  21. The lack of creative thinking by Hendry has trapped him into this corner. This obsession with Pierre and the leadoff spot could some serious overpayment for a RF or a big drop in production like a Burnitz type player.
  22. The M's aren't very deep in the OF: Reed,Ibanez,Everett & Ichiro. I read in our paper that the Red Sox are looking at Reed for CF if they don't sign Damon. Maybe tis is what is holding up the Ibanez deal, the Mariners want to deal with the Red Sox first and if Damon signs they move to plan B and the Cubs.
  23. I honestly think the Brewers might be a team to watch as well.
