  1. There's a time and place for this type of post MET and this is not one of them.
  2. "He's a switch hitter Rock, of course he's going to get his AB's against lefties. That's why we paid him so much." Dusty
  3. The torches are being lit as I write this. Hendrystein must go.
  4. Bring back Sosa to platoon w/ Jones. ;) Maybe Jones can put a Sammy mask on and play right the whole time.
  5. I've seen it and I disagree wholeheartedly. What exactly do you disagree with? I didn't double-check my back of the envelope calculations but I'm pretty sure the math is solid. From an absolute runs saved perspective Williams is the better pitcher. This depends on the baseline against you are measuring, of course: Against replacement players Williams' innings win out, but if you're comparing against league-average players Lidge's superior rate stats win out. Once again, the player I would choose in a trade would depend on my team's specific needs. "BK...I trust your guesses more than I would another persons fact." James T. Kirk
  6. If this is true and it's the last major move Hendry makes...who should be the next Cub GM? Now, if Hendry pulls off a major trade for an impact bat then this deal isn't so bad. Maybe Murton is going to be used in a Abreu trade? Maybe a deal for Tejada is in the works?
  7. ESPNews just said that Millwood is visiting Texas soon. That would be a nice pickup for them as well.
  8. Hendry was upset that Philly doesn't double coupons and is taking his business elsewhere. I expect the next OF to be found at a garage sale.
  9. I hope you're right because sometimes I wonder if Hendry is just getting ready for a long winters nap.
  10. The Astros might also be willing to part with Lidge in a deal for Abreu which trumps anything we'd be willing to offer. i don't think the astros would give up lidge. Well, that's yet to be seen but there have been reports that he's being shopped and his name has definitely been mentioned in trade rumors. Even the Chronicle says teams have been inquiring about his status. If he was untouchable McClain would have put an end to the rumblings like Hendry did for the Prior and Zambrano rumors. i just doubt that philly would ask for lidge in return, as they don't really need to swap their best position player for a closer. if philly is smart, they ask for oswalt. Yeah...what's the deal with that? The Phils ask for Prior or Z from the Cubs while they just ask for Lidge from Houston?
  11. Without a doubt. Considering his recent health, I wouldn't be surprised to see him take a 2 year extension and run. Could be a wise business decision. Washington is a team without an owner and as such is in no position to be offering contract extensions like this. This "deal" is not in the realm of possibility. Is there any chance Kerry will get dealt to another team this offseason? do you really honestly care if there's any return on him or are you just so eager to get rid of him that you'd take a much lesser player, a player likely to get no important innings, pay all of wood's salary just to be rid of him? i honestly don't understand the hate for wood at all. I don't think it's because of hate...at least not for me, it's just that I think the Cubs would have been better off trading him before his 3 year deal and missed the boat as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully Wood can come back and pitch well enough to be an effctive starter again.
  12. Without a doubt. Considering his recent health, I wouldn't be surprised to see him take a 2 year extension and run. Could be a wise business decision. Washington is a team without an owner and as such is in no position to be offering contract extensions like this. This "deal" is not in the realm of possibility. My original point is that Wood may drop his NTC for an extension. You're probably right about Washington but IMO there must be some team(s) that would do this, maybe not for the years or cash though.
  13. Where's the real lineup that has Perez batting second?
  14. I think Hendry wants to sign a Weaver or Millwood. The reason I say that is because as of next year Prior and Zambrano are the only known definites unless you consider Rusch part of the mix. If we have trade Williams or Hill or both for a big bat then we are even in worse shape pitching-wise unless we can count on Guzman/Marshall/Ryu to fill a spot. That might also be why we haven't seen a trade for a big-time bat yet, because Hendry may not be willing to deal Williams or Hill with impending lack of pitching depth. Of course Wood could always become healthy again and be re-signed. Those are just my random, incoherent thoughts. Were either Weaver or Millwood offered arbitration?
  15. So if Murton stays a Cub he will win a World Series? Yes!!!
  16. So clubs have until midnight tonight EST to tender a contract to a player?
  17. Jones' numbers are pretty interesting. Early in his career he usually hit for a pretty good average but would rarely take a walk. His patience has vastly improved over the past couple years, but that was accompanied by a similarly sharp drop in his batting average. His power and strikeout totals have more or less remained steady, so the difference can mostly be found in his BABIP. (It was around .350 when he was hitting .300, and dropped to the .280 range over the past couple years.) If I were to guess I'd say that a BABIP in the .280 range is closer to what Jacque's skill set can support, so I wouldn't count on that .370 OBP any time soon. It's not out of the question, though. So if the Cubs signed Jones and E.Perez would that be a good enough platoon to be productive?
  18. Yeah but what if Jones would like to win 80 games in Chicago instead of winning 68 in KC? I'm sure he'd like to play for a winner. Someone e-mail Jones and tell him that Z and Prior are out until July. That way he'll sign with KC. Or he'll just be greedy like rest of MLB players, sign with KC and hope for a mid-season trade to a contender. Isn't this his last chance for a decent contract? I'd go for the cash if I were him. :D
  19. In Dusty's defense, wasn't he playing Cedeno until he got hurt?
  20. Perez was offered arb from Tampa and declined. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2265925
  21. 12 Is that what they broke camp with last year?
  22. IMO the Cubs are going to get a left bat for the OF. So far they have: Lee 1B Walker 2B/1B/LF Cedeno SS/2B Perez SS/2B/3B Hairston 2B/CF/LF Ramirez 3B Murton LF Mabry LF/1B/3B Patterson CF/LF Barrett C/3B Blanco C So they haveone opening correct since the Cubs are probably going to go with 13 pitchers?
  23. If the Cubs got Vidro that would pretty much seal the Walker to whoever deal. IMO, Wash is a little in a corner with the mulitple 2B's so I think that Hendry could get a pretty decent deal here. What I would wonder is, can you hold onto Walker long enough to be sure that Vidro is going to be healthy and/or ready to start the season. If he is, you could then move Walker during Spring Training. The down side being that you're not going to get as much for Walker if everyone knows you are going to trade him. Another option would be to move Walker to the super-sub role he was supposedly signed to two years ago. Play a little corner OF, some 1B, some 2B, some 3B, etc. If he would accept it. That would basically make him a more talented (offensively) John Mabry. Good idea and I'd like to see if Walker could play another postion. Did he play anything other than 2B last year? Didn't Vidro used to play 3rd? He could back up ARam.
