  1. Who did you want? Keeping Nomar was never a pie in the sky goofy concept. He was willing to come back cheeply and switch positions. It's not in the same category of thinking about keeping Burnitz or Patterson. I was one of the very few who supported the Tejada/Prior deal that was rumored. But since it didn't happen, I was very supportive of Cedeno and Walker at SS and 2nd. Also, I believe you and I were in agreement in trying to get Giles to play RF. Of course, signing Giles would've prevented Hendry from overspending on Perez, Jones and Rusch. I agree on all counts. You put Giles and Tejada on this team and you have a nice lineup. Walker could have lead off if they could get the speed thing out of their little minds.
  2. I agree though I don't believe that they are total incompetents, close but not total. Baker was blessed with perfect timing and he still manged to screw up a bird in the hand. I firmly believe the scouts and Hendry have no clue on what to look for in a hitter. The drafts and the free agent signings back that up IMO.
  3. If Baker had any accountability, he never would have been in trouble with the IRS... I've missed your humor. I can see Bruce sending out the boy scouts to deliver the Herold papers like in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and them getting beat up by the Trib and Sun.
  4. So does Jones. Only Patterson is younger, faster, (outside of this, they're almost the same player) and isn't on a 3 year multi-million dollar contract. I think the best thing that could happen to Corey was being sent out of Chicago.
  5. The Yanks need an OF, move Jones to them for some crackerjacks.
  6. As are their prices!
  7. And when he's 37 Hendry can sign him to a 3 year deal.
  8. The dugout is cold and he knows how to light a fire.
  9. Well, whaddya expect? Put on a Cub uniform, forget how to play baseball. He wasn't that good before he put on a Cubs uniform. That's part of Mr. Hendry's job, to get guys that will help the Cubs and get better when they are in Chicago. Sell low buy high, that's our Jimmy.
  10. Don't worry that Baker extension should be coming any day now.
  11. I would expect a 250/290-280/330 type of career for Cedeno. A decent career but nothing spectacular. If this team had some decent hitters Cedeno would fit in fine but since Hendry decided to get a CF and RF that are below average Cedeno's struggles will stick out more.
  12. I can't wait to hear some Dusty quotes in ten years. "When I was coaching the Cubs Perez saved us from hurting ourselves because that's the why we did things back then. It's like using a toaster, when you need your bread done you put it in."
  13. He's probably somebody that Baker still owes money to. His name wasn't Sam was it?
  14. Exactly. People still show up and nothing will change. If they start getting 15K people to show up at the games, believe me, things will change. myth. No it is not a myth but believe what you want. You can go to the game, boo and spend 300 bucks, that'll show the Cubs you mean business. Really, that should work.
  15. Exactly. People still show up and nothing will change. If they start getting 15K people to show up at the games, believe me, things will change.
  16. I don't understand why Hairston can't play CF against lefties. He couldn't be worse. Oh yeah, we have to justify the crappy trade by never taking Pierre out and keeping him at the leadoff postion. I look forward to the extension Pierre is going to sign so he can relax and not press so much.
  17. This made me think of the Great Warren Zevon....Send Lawyers, Drugs, and Money. If the Cubs did get Wright I would be an excitable boy.
  18. Gutsiest move I ever saw. Congrats to Riot and I hope it leads to the release of Bynum. Or perhaps this is the beginning of the Bynum and Baker show. Maybe the ex-LSU Tigers can jump through a ring of fire?
  19. Well wise old Baker...how many bunts does it take to finish a tootsie pop? One, two...crunch...three. So the strategy is now a drag bunt base hit. Sac to second...one out. Sac to third...2 out. Squeeze and hope it isn't the third out at first or home? Brilliant!
  20. Did that cause his atrocious 2005, too, Jim? the excuse factory has got to be in high gear w/ jones and pierre right now. but hey, let's attribute the struggles to internal blaming and cold weather instead of just looking at their 2005 numbers and admitting that these guys just aren't that good. If Hendry admits that then he would have to admit he made a mistake.
  21. ARams start reminds me of the start he had in Pittsburgh in 2003. He goes through those types of slumps and IMO it's mental.
  22. He makes Monty Burns look like Vlad.
  23. Nomar's gone and it's time to move on IMO. Hendry has to improve this team and what's done is done.
  24. Maybe the Cubs can trade him for Vlad and Figgins? I'll never understand Hendry's love for for aquirering players that can play multiple postions and not play them that well while not being able to hit a lick and for Baker to over play them. Too many 25th type players on this team.
  25. The trainer if helps get the injured players back sooner.
