  1. I have to see him throw. Judging on nothing is just wrong because I need to see the actual results.
  2. Excellent point. Probably because of the wow factor. Everyone remembers Roberto Clemente nailing that runner at third in the '72 World Series at Baltimore. Everyone remembers seeing Dave Parker nail the guy at home in the All Star Game in Seattle. Both were spectatular, jaw-dropping throws. That quote has to be the finest thing I've ever read from Tim!
  3. Drinks are on UK tonight!
  4. They started playing teams that weren't AA.
  5. These guys must be using that NBA animal free ball because it's slippin and a slidin out of everyones hands.
  6. It just amazes me on how few players understand what to do when it comes to a blocked punt or field goal.
  7. I'll go out on a limb and guess not enough. You're a bold man! What would kill me is watching the Cubs use those 2 picks for elbow injury prospects. My thinking is that Hendry is waiting for the dust to settle and see how much his 2007 team is going to cost before talking to Z. If he gives him the 17-20 now that may stop all other spending but if he does it during Spring Training it won't hamper the off season.
  8. The thing that makes Andre better than the Rice types is that he could run the bases and play good defense. I don't understand why these things get discounted so easily when it comes to voting for the Hall.
  9. Not a chance in hell Z will be traded. Hendry has 100% committed the Cubs to winning now and it's way too late to turn back even if he wanted to. It wouldn't surprise me to see Z get a deal in which he makes only $8M in in '07 and '08 and $28M in '09 and '10. Hendry has already gambled his career on winning in the next 2 years so more deferred debt won't bother him. If Hendry just lets Z go the Free Agent route then the Cubs make an even bigger mistake than I thought by extending his (Hendrys) contract. I agree that he is in a win now mode but just letting this drag out is foolish IMO. Plus, a huge mega deal with the Angels/Yanks or another team that has possible impact prospects and needs pitching could still help the Cubs continue winning or at least attempt to, and for the future. If worse comes to worse, how many draft picks would the Cubs get for Z if he goes the free agent route?
  10. If you want to take pressure off him, he's always said he prefers hitting 6th. Maybe sliding him to 5th if he struggles wouldn't be a bad idea. That said, I don't expect him to struggle. He won't hit like he did in 2005 but I think we can expect .380/.570/.950 from him 2005 = 1.080, carreer = .863 I'm for whatever works!
  11. IMO the White Sox are going to aquire Andruw Jones. I think they stockpiled enough young talent to get him from the Braves.
  12. First of all regarding Lee, I hope things are going better with his little girl. I'm not sure how focused he'll be if she is still having a lot of problems and I wouldn't blame him for a second if he struggles. Saying that I might slide him to the 2 spot just to take the pressure off him mentally and physically.
  13. Cedeno's OBP was .005 higher than Neifi's. That is pretty darned insignificant. Ronny was just as bad as Neifi. Seriously. It cracks me up when people try to say that Cedeno was better than Neifi last year. I'd take .254/.266/.343/.610 over .245/.271/.339/.610 every day of the week. Some people seem to forget that a hit is better than a walk. What do you consider a better AB.....a 10 pitch walk with no one on base or a first pitch single with no one on base?
  14. I wonder how much he signed for? This might force the Mets to trade Millidge to upgrade their staff.
  15. Careers could be damaged because guys took steroids. Don't blame the release of the truth for their careers being damaged. That being said, this isn't a good thing for anybody. It only adds to the distrust between MLB and the MLBPA. I wouldn't feel the least bit sorry for some bum who used roids and is exposed. But dishonoring the confidentiality of this test only makes further testing more difficult. What about the players that have been clean? IMO they might be thrilled to see this come out.
  16. So basically what kind of OBP would Soriano need to put up to be an effective leadoff hitter?
  17. I'd like to see Theriot play SS and Derosa at 2nd. I'd also switch them in the order and have DeRosa lead off until/unless Theriot proves otherwise.
  18. When I have a hard time deciding on if a player deserves to be in the Hall I ask myself if I would rather have him or another player that is close to him that played the same position on my team. If I picking between Delgado and Grace, I'm taking Degado for 1st base.
  19. The White Sox are competitive and that's all I could ask for the Cubs so I give Williams some credit for at least doing that.
  20. If I remember correctly, don't they rely on the outside shot a lot? I think that would be a good reason why they are so inconsistant.
  21. This is one of the best mental images of baseball I've had all offseason. Wrigley during this would rival Dodger Stadium in Gagné's heyday. No Metallica/AC-DC theme song needed, just the place going nuts. I believe Kerry is on record as being a big metalhead. So his theme music should be....?? "Butterfly Kisses"
  22. How many Cubs have been successful when they return? Most have flopped or been average at best. Good luck Sammy wherever you go but I hope it's not in Chicago.
  23. Don't worry, they'll let you down once conference play starts. They'll have to work hard to do so, as they have the easiest Big East schedule you could draw up (no Pitt, no UConn, and two games each against USF and Providence). Sort of a makeup for those years where they were forced by ESPN to play Cuse, Pitt and UConn twice a year. That will just make it all the more agonizing for you to watch. And, as a side note, I say this not as a Notre Dame hater because I'm indifferent to their basketball team, but since your teams have consistently let you down over the past year. Word to that. I'll enjoy it for now until the inevitable meltdown :D Maybe...maybe not. The conference is not as strong at the top this year, deep, but not as strong as previous years. It would have been a good time for you guys to play us twice this year!
