  1. If the Sox can $talk Clemens into signing with them they will have a very nice team even if they don't trade for Helton.
  2. What happens if the first losing streak are the first 10 games? A nice 1-9 start coulde a very interesting start for the Cubs.
  3. These guys are just flat out dominating their sports. I suppose we could ask which one is the harder sport to dominate, tennis or golf?
  4. So the Governors of the Super Bowl teams are betting about raising flags instead of food and it got me wondering what kind of food Indiana is famous for? Sugar Creme Pie? What else?
  5. Thanks Ser...Laura! This might be an interesting move for the Sox if they can pull it off. Helton scares me with his back thing and being a little paranoid about possible steroids use as he was accused of using them. I want ARod now not later in 2008.
  6. I think they're so bad that they're good. They remind me of an NBA jersey.
  7. Like trade ARod to the Cubs! I'm curious who the Sox are going to give up for him and how much they are willing to pick up salary wise.
  8. Come to Syracuse and help me coach. We've been practicing for a month so you're going to have to catch up.
  9. As stupid as it is, it's also incredibly lazy. It's kind of like the people who would go on to the ESPN message board and ask others to find them stats on a player. That always cracked me up. I disagree and this could go on forever so I'm done. USS...your wife is a teacher, ask her if it's a stupid question.
  10. The thing is, he's convinced that he is the only guy out there really studying the game. He claims to be an extremely thorough, meat and potatoes instead of fluff and nonsense kind of expert. Yet he's routinely just dead wrong on many issues. Then he's like a newscaster studying "The National Equirer" for news information because I could never figure out where he was getting his facts from.
  11. That's a key point. He handicaps the team each year by insisting on fielding the least patient team in baseball, so the offense stands no chance of picking up the slack if the pitching suffers any sort of setback. I'm not sure this was your point but I am curious on the effects of quick 1-2-3 innings have on the pitcher that are on offense. They just sit down and then they have to get right back out there again.
  12. He is being highly critical of the Bears near loss to Arizona. Yet Indy did lose 4 times, to teams that were anywhere from mediocre to bad. This guy has been wrong so often on SI for as long as I can remember. I actually think he has made a name for himself by being so inapt. Bears as the worst team last year was just beyond absurd. I thought they were a lock for about a 9-7 season. That team stood no chance of being worst in the league. he has admitted in the past that he has had problems with people in the organization, both past and present. Picking them to lose to Indy is perfectly reasonable. They should be the underdog, and I don't even think 7 points is absurd. But Z is acting as if the Bears stand no chance. He's such an NFC east homer it's shocking when he's able to talk about any team outside the area. He's a big reason why I stopped reading that magazine years ago. I just can't stand reading uneducated drivel from a person who is getting paid to know what he's talking about.
  13. Polian is a good or better as any GM I've ever seen in the NFL.

  15. You're making assumptions on what the person knows. Just because he has internet access doesn't make him knowledgeable about the Cubs or even baseball for that matter. Maybe he thinks it's possible for the Cubs to lose minor league players by some draft? Who knows what he has knowledge of? Was Peoria part of the Cubs system? Yes. Did Pujols play for Peoria? Yes. Why is that such a stupid question for a fan that may not know that much to ask? Because it's not as if he's asking if a player of the fame of say...JD Drew, or Vernon Wells was a Cub. He's asking about Albert Pujols. Perennial league MVP candidate. Best player in the NL, and a player who plays for the Cubs' principle rival. He's not an obscure name. He's a name the casual fan should know, and casual fans again would pay attention to media ripping the Cubs for not retaining the best player in the league. Again you assume what he knows and what he doesn't. Also, how do you know this media ripping of the Cubs would even be in his train of thought? First off, he knew enough about Pujols to inquire if the Cubs gave up on him, implying that he knows that Pujols is great, and knew the Cubs are now affiliated with Peoria. If you're assuming this person is an adult (which is the basis of the argument), in the time it took him to find the Q&A and submit his question, he could have simply asked himself "If Albert Pujols, who I know is great, and plays for the Cardinals, used to be in the Cubs system, why haven't I heard about the fact that we let ANOTHER prospect get away to St Louis?". Simple critical thinking could have answered his question. Let's say he looks at Pujols stats and sees that he played for Peoria. Then he wonders since the Cubs have ties to them and he writes to Cubs.com that question. What's wrong with that? He went to the source to learn the answer. I suppose it semantics on what you think is a stupid question and what I think is one because I think it's a valid question from a causual or less type fan. What if he asked what the Triple Crown is in baseball? Is that stupid?

  17. I don't know that I agree on that part. There are plenty of people investigating baseball cards for the profit of turning a buck that couldn't care less about said team or organization. Obviously this guy cares about the Cubs. Maybe, but perhaps he has no clue about any other org. I know plenty of people who know nothing about their fave teams other then the 25 guys on the ML roster and the manager. That was me as a youngster, and yes, I loved and obsessively collected baseball cards at the time. Your argument that b/c he collects cards he must be more than a 'casual fan" is weak. That wasn't my argument, so your rebuttal was therefore weak. Here are the facts. He has internet access and knows how to use it. He knows how to get to the Cubs website, find the Q&A section and submit a question. He goes to ebay and searches for, and apparantly examines baseball cards. He knows the Peoria Chiefs are the Cubs single A team. I'm assuming he's not a youngster. If he's 8, I take it back. But his wording makes me believe he's got to be at least older than 18. Therefore, you negate any chance that he's only aware of the 25 man roster. He should clearly know that was a stupid question. I wasn't going to make a big deal out of this until people were aghast that I agreed it was a stupid question. How dare you say I was aghast! As one gentleman to another I demand an apoligy

  19. Yes. Because before that, MLB on satellite radio didn't exist. It'd be similar if MLB used to be on both, but switched to just one provider. I see, thanks.
  20. SERIOUSLY IF I COULD START THE CORNEY SLOW TO FAST CHEER THAT PEOPLE DO WHEN SOMEONE DID OR SAID SOMETHING IMPRESSIVE I WOULD!!! I CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS POINT!!! IF THE SUPER BOWL WAS CAGE MATCH BETWEEN GROSSMAN AND MANNING THAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT.... BUT ITS NOT. True but let's face it, QB's get too much credit for wins and losses in the NFL.
  21. Is this any different than Sirus being the only one to be able to carry MLB on the satillite radio?
  22. Most likely to win the Metro Atlantic. Best players are SP Bobby Blevins, SS Parrino, and they have good freshman by the name of Chris Edmondson (OF). Thanks UK. Pete Hoy is their pitching coach and he's worked with a few of my kids. He's done a nice job with them but for some reason they have never been interested in giving one a scholarship.
  23. I go to the local bar for Sunday Ticket. How much does it cost to have it in a residential setting? I think it cost me around $200 this year. I figure I'd easily spend more than that over the course of the season if I went to a bar every game. How much is a beer in a NYC bar these days? I'd be watching in Hoboken (Eli's hometown), just across the river, but similar prices. If I went to a bar for Sunday football, I'd be spending $3-5 per beer, plus food, every Sunday, from 12:30-7:15 (at least). I could probably get away with only spending $15-20 on occasion, but I'd probably spend at least $50 most Sundays. At my house, we take turns buying kegs, and split the cost of food that we usually make at home, so I might average $15 per Sunday. Plus, I can lay down on my couch if I want, play with the dog, yell, scream, nap at will. And I have 100% control of the tv (station and volume). 3 to 5 bucks...beer hasn't really gone up that much. Did you get around that weird keg law (extra charge) in NY regarding deposits?
  24. Is Bayless that guy from the Cold Pizza on ESPN show? If it is everytime he opens his mouth he has nothing good to say and the worst part of it is he often doesn't have a clue.
