  1. How many Cub games did you get on this last year BbB?
  2. I'm sure what skills you like or want out of a player shape what a lot of GM's look at when it comes to Cub prospects but I was wondering what players in the orginization have had the most inquiries from other GM's? How do they find out about the prospects....by scouting them or reading info or both? What information do they read or trust that would give them the information they disire to make a decision to make a move towards a player? I'm just curious on how all this takes shape and how it effects the deals the Cubs could make and get the most bang for the buck.
  3. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=272957 I haven't heard much about this news conference, but it would be the perfect time to announce an extension. Get the media focused on Jerry/Lovie for the week. Make those guys the story for now, and get rid of any potential controversy/distractions involving those contracts. I've heard it's just about a bobblehead deal that Lovie just signed. I'm curious if the distraction of Lovie possibly leaving would be the one thing that would bother the players off the field wise. I think it would be a very good move to have pounded this thing out now and get rid of the speculation.
  4. I look forward to Bill O'Reilly taking over as the Cub President! I'm curious on how MLB is going to take this. Is it a possible conflict of interest? What sort of conflict? This is the sort of thing people were talking about when they warned that simply getting new ownership would not guarantee better ownership. Murdock owning part of the Dodgers and Cubs. Yep....be careful for what you wish for. I thought Newscorp was completely out of the Dodgers ownership situation. Didn't they sell it all to McCourt? I don't know. I was going by the post by CiNY. Whoops....reading comp 101. I don't remember if Murdock sold his ownership of the Dodgers.

  7. That's because no one wants Griffey. Griffey for Jones and a prospect? I figure Griffey would be perfect. He would play very well for the first half of the year and then get hurt allowing Pie to get called up. If they could get the Reds to pay the backloaded/deferred money that would be a great trade for the Cubs. I'd even give up one of the top pitching prospects like Marmol. It won't happen though. I'm curious if Griffey would move to a corner spot in the OF. How old is he now?

  9. He's their #3 starter. The Reds spent less than the Cubs when they signed Marquis for about the same player.

  11. I read that....And it's for the 2006 season... Heh, just reread the job description again. Nice catch. I wonder if it's a misprint. They were all posted on Jan 7th... You know the Cubs when it comes to numbers.
  12. Stinks losing to St. Johns, doesn't it?
  13. And the reason they are spending this year and not some years past. Is the MLB contract signed yet because with this and the leaked drug tests they might have a problem getting it passed.
  14. I applaud them for holding their athletes to those high standards. Unlike other universities and their blind eye approach. One of the most glaring was Scott Skiles at MSU. He got busted 2 or 3 times during his senior year and still was able to stay on the team. It'll never happen with the boosters having way too much control of the athletic programs.
  15. Plus if he continues to critisize the Giants ARP is going to be all over him like plaid pants on a golf course.
  16. Excellent news. I saw that earlier, but the Titans site said that the Cowboys hadn't asked yet but even if they did, we wouldn't grant it. I don't think Fisher would leave at this point. He's got a good young team and Floyd Reese (who he never got along with) is gone. There are not very many better jobs out there right now, in my opinion (no offense Cowboy fans  ). And he doesn't have to deal with TO.
  17. Me too. I just can not imagine a manager saying this about a player and a player that may be playing for him this year. I'm thinking there's a good chance Neifi will be released. I don't see him playing for the Tigers next year. I just hope Hendry doesn't pick him up. Evidently if this is what Leyland is willing to say to the public. I just think it's kind of unprofessional of him to say this stuff though.
  18. Just the man trying to keep Canada down.
  19. It's definitely been going on all year, but personally I really don't care what people say. I actually like it that way. The Bears will just need to remember on Super Bowl Sunday that no lead is safe when Peyton Manning is lining up behind center. Stick with what got us there and DO NOT TURN THE BALL OVER! I don't think that's true. I think once Grossman started to struggle is when the critics started to come out. It started after AZ, although there were seeds earlier (the weak schedule argument). But it really peaked after the Vikings game. The two NY games and the NE loss more or less cancelled things out as far as the media was concerned. But once Rex had a bad game against Minnesota, the national media pounced. People ignored Rex's really good games and decided that his bad games were the norm, and the best we could hope for was a Rex that didn't make too many mistakes (as opposed to the possibility that he could actually go something like 20/30 for 250 yards and 3 TDs 0 INTs). A lot of Bears fans fell for this same storyline. For some reason, Grossman's ceiling lowered dramatically. Grossman isn't your typical "average" QB, who has a lot of average games. He's highly inconsistent (which obviously isn't good), but capable of greatness that most average QB's have no chance of achieving. But since his really high QB rating games and his really bad QB rating games averaged out to a relatively low rating, people label him as something he clearly is not. But anyway, after Grossman crapped the bed against the Vikes, the tide really turned heavily. Prior to that game, lots of people rated the Bears in the top 3 in the league, after that game, they were regularly relegated to worse than whatever hot flavor of the week NFC team got top billing. By season's end, the #1 team in the NFC was rated behind at least 2 (Philly/NO) other teams in their league, and many people rated them behind Dallas. I agree and many times I heard it was a battle for the AFC and the Bears hands down in the NFC up until Grossman struggled.
  20. I just don't understand people getting their panties in a bunch about Reggie Bush. Unless your team doesn't have trash talkers and taunters on it - and we all know that our teams do - don't get pissed that other teams do it. Outside of taking a dump on the other team's logo at the 50 yard line, there's not much of a level of disrespect between one action or another. I want to know how you knew I was wearing panties.

  22. Will you be easy when the package price becomes $350+ per year? When sports bars refuse to pay the huge package price for baseball like they do Sunday Ticket, as I'm sure DirecTV seems to think sports bars will value a baseball package as much as football, the price for the everyday consumer will skyrocket. I hear what you're saying, but I find it unlikely sports bars will refuse to carry the baseball package. They'll lose business like crazy to those who do. It's the whole reason they're in business. They'll be ponying up. I don't see it as being that popular in a bar and not nearly as popular as football.
  23. I don't think that's true at all, especially on this board, where fans tend to be more informed than the average fan. From what I've seen, the Bears have the best defense in the league, but a below-average quarterback and an offensive line that isn't always good enough to keep pressure off him - which is when he really struggles. I think the Colts will win because I think they're a bad matchup for the Bears - they're the best passing team in the league, and that's where the Bears can be beat. I hope for the Bears' sake that they don't buy into the "let's just run the ball all game like Jacksonville did" bull. This isn't 1994-95 Nebraska versus Baylor, these are two really good NFL teams playing in the Super Bowl. I'd like for the Super Bowl to be competitive, especially since I won't be able to watch until the second half. Actually, New Orleans was the best passing team in the league, and it didn't help them much. I think the weather will be a little different in Florida then it was in Chicago though.
  24. I'm a non Bear fan and I could care less about what some hack says. The chance to play in the Super Bowl is earned and not voted on by these same morans.
  25. We have two weeks to discuss this game. Some media articles and who they choose and what they think is going to be prime discussion. It's less a matter of caring what they think, than an observation of a trend in reporting. Well it seems to help the Bears as they seem to like this "I have a chip on my shoulder" thing.
