  1. Valverde is a bit of a jackass! Who pitches next for the Cubs IF they don't score....Patton?
  2. Except he rarely puls the ball. And I doubt he can get around on Hawkins fastball.
  3. For a team that's wanted to get "more left-handed", they sure have looked piss-poor against left-handed pitching the past few years. They used to crush lefthanders! :banghead:
  4. My reference to Beane was not really referring to the Cubs and who got the better of the deal. It's really about Beane seeming to know the right time to get/give up players. Gaudin may have been a "throw in" for Beane, but I'll bet it sweetened the pot for Hendry. I still like the trade, but Beane has a good eye for talent (or lack of).
  5. Billy Beane strikes again!! Must've been a reason he let him go with Harden.
  6. So do the Cubs pay Gaudin's salary if he's picked up by another team? What if he signs a minor league deal with another team?
  7. Might be able to get him really cheap for 3 months. Could a 6-man rotation work for the last half of the season assuming everyone is healthy. And when someone is "experiencing discomfort", fall back to the traditional 5-man. The extra days might help come September and October.
  8. You might be thinking of Robert Ransom. He was a pitching prospect, I think out of Vandy (maybe). edit - I just checked and you are correct. The Cubs signed him in 2005 and sold to Texas 2 months later.
  9. From what I've heard and read, he often throws in the mid to high 90's. Regardless, my point is that he seems to be all arm in his delivery. For a fastball pitcher, that seems to a problem.
  10. DLee seemed to get his stroke back the past week and a half. Samardzija needs to be in the minors. Gaudin was brutal and did nothing to make a case for sticking with team. Harden was sporadic but allegedly "pain free". Heilman looks to be a good pick up. Thankfully, Paul Bako is not on the team. Len and Bill sounded good on TV.
  11. Amazing how there are sooo many concussions in sports and almost always, the player is able to continue. And yet this guys physiology prevents him from playing. That's too bad for him. He would have been a nice addition to the team later in the season.
  12. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush! He may be leaving some money on the table if he's effective for 4 years. But $15 million guaranteed is not too shabby. And prior to this contract, he's an injury away from squat. It's a good move for the player and team.
  13. Marmol gives up a dinger on an 0-2 count. Then he hits the next batter and a single follows. He got out of it, though. He makes me nervous heading into the season if he's gonna be the closer.
  14. If you think Stone has a "soft spot" for the Cubs, listen to him on the Score sometime. He constantly takes shots at them and rarely gives the organization credit for anything. And the next "good move" Hendry makes will be the first "good move" Hendry makes in Stone's mind. And while there's not much love lost for Hendry on this board, ask yourself if Stone thinks Kenny Williams ever made a bad trade or poor signing. Stone has an axe to grind, IMHO! But with regard to his comment about Dustbag, yeah I caught and chuckled.
  15. Was Youklis not grounding into enough DPs????
  16. Marmol gave up zippy inthe first game. Volquez took the loss even though he gave up no earned runs.
  17. What will Heilman's role on this team be? Is he the replacement for Howry?
  18. Hope Marmol's appearance tonight is NOT a predictor of how his season will go!!
  19. Can't a Mod automatically bump this to the 95-100 page range just so we don't have to wade through the crap arguements?!?!? http://timesfour.com/x4graemlins/icon_pullhair.gif The same old arguements in the old thread are gonna be regurgitated in this one! http://timesfour.com/x4graemlins/icon_bdh.gif
  20. Wasn't Marte the centerpiece of a trade with the Braves a few years back?
  21. You don't have to be the best team during the season to reach/win the WS. You just have to be the best team in October.
