  1. I'll take atmosphere over the mall anyday. Screw parking. Take public transportation. The last thing we need is more reason to drive places, idling in traffic for hours. Mallparks suck. Amen. Why do you want to turn the Cubs experience into The Cell North? Take public transportation, save on gas and buy more beers. Wrigley with a total rebuild of the grandstand - 47.

  3. Oh joy, I can hardly wait for this windbag to give us his thoughts.

  5. 1. Clinch the division 2. Secure home field throughout the playoffs 3. Get as much rest for the starting rotation while setting them up for the playoffs Then worry about who the first round opponent will be, so I'm looking for a Phillies sweep.
  6. Well technically, Jerry Reinsdorf runs the MLB. Plus the All-Star Game fiasco and subsequent "now it counts" have already cemented Selig as the worst.
  7. I think they're all trying to fill the "sky is falling" void that Mariotti left.
  8. The proper response should have been "Stop hitting on me, Mike Fontenot!"
  9. They are but then they are managed by Dusty Lite.
  10. Don't worry, Philly ain't makin' the playoffs - the Mets will get pay back for last season.
  11. I highly recommend the book Crazy '08. The story of the 1908 baseball season, not only the Cubs/Giants but the AL and a few non-baseball happenings in the summer that baseball became America's Game.
  12. I'm not a big watcher of ESPN anymore but do they really let the fans vote for power rankings? I would tend to think the poll would lose all credibility then...you know, just like ESPN.
  13. Wouldn't the Brewers be able to claim him before the Cubs?
  14. I think most of us will still be on a bender in December.
  15. Red Satanic Fowl: 1. Stan Musial 2. Rogers Hornsby 3. Bob Gibson Redlegs: 1. Johnny Bench 2. Pete Rose 3. Frank Robinson Pale Hose: 1. Shoeless Joe Jackson 2. Ed Walsh 3. Frank Thomas
  16. Mike Schmidt is a crybaby.
  17. They're doing well this year, but if Lou hadn't come around to the fact that OBP is important they'd still be clueless. Cuban's very much a SABR guy, so the "Red Sox of the NL" is a good analogy. Plus the Cubs are spending someone else's money at this point. I'm not convinced that if the Cubs were up for sale, they would be spending like this, especially if MacPhail stayed.
  18. Your third sentence answers your question.

  20. Maybe to get him some work and have him ready for Thursday when Harden pitches. (Especially if Lou is not ready to use him on consecutive days yet)
  21. I would like to see the technology used to force the umpires to be better and more consistent with their strike zones. I know the umps union was up in arms about the Q(not sure of the correct name) system that they used in some parks. If there was an agreement in place, during the next contract negotiations, to use a similar system that would compile all the data for a particular umpire. Showing him how consistent or inconsistent his strike zone is. It could be used on a monthly review basis, the umpire gets graded, there is a certain grade the umpires must maintain to be hired for the next season.
  22. I really wish they can refrain from hiring anyone with ESPN ties. A fresh cast of hosts, reporters, ex-players, GMs and "experts" but that's a tall order. As for job openings, I'll take the job of keeping Joe Morgan from entering the premises.
  23. Along with Rick Monday, one of my favorite Cubs of the 70s. Brenly did talk to Lou about it on the Lead-Off Man today.
  24. Torres will likely fade as well. I wonder if the Crew would nab Marte and make him their closer? We can only pray they do.
  25. Haven't read thru the whole thread yet but I keep seeing this statement and had to comment before I see it again. Hendry knows his past history of DL trips and that Harden mentioned the dead arm after his last two starts. Plus I'm sure a physical is involved before the trade becomes official. I find it hard to believe that in this day and age, a GM could sneak an injured player through a trade or would be able to hold back information. Unless Beane is prescient, he has no knowledge of what the future holds for Harden in the way of injuries.
