  1. You just can't expect this to happen season after season. We waited for the Cardinals to "come back down to earth" last year, it didn't happen until the World Series. Houston is playing good baseball, they're getting great pitching, some timely hitting and executing fundamental baseball. Why would anyone expect that to stop? Plus they have the experience of last season when they went on a run to come within a game of the World Series. The Cubs, as presently constructed, are not capable of stringing together a long winning streak or two to make a serious run at the WC.
  2. Well, at least we have a nickname for him, in the tradition of Sweaty Joe...Perspirin' Ryan.
  3. 26 already is out. Out before 10 was. And with any luck, 21 will be retired within a few years, also (depending on when he decides to hang them up) I would immagine that its kinda unofficially retired right now anyways, just like 23. I doubt anyone even thinks about wearing those numbers. Well, since the Cubs have retired exactly three numbers in over 100 years of existence, I doubt Sosa's # gets retired until he makes the Hall of Fame. Santo is the one exception to this rule so far (and I think his was only retired because of his continued work with the club + his failing health). Sandberg's will be retired at the start of next season I would imagine. #21 will be available for at least the next 6 or 7 years. Sandberg's # is going to be retired at the Aug 28 game vs. the Marlins
  4. I didn't see the whole game, but I noticed there was a Washington University sign on the wall or just inside. Did Hairston make a play close to that sign? Dusty could have used it for reference.
  5. It was starting to look like Sammy would never hit another HR. I was also wondering if Palmeiro would reach 600 HR's before Sammy, still a possibility. I hope Sammy has enough left to get to 600.
  6. I was browsing WSI last night (bored out of my mind w/o any baseball); the posters were throwing around names like Marte, Borchard, McPrior, Anderson. Not realizing that the Marlins have better deals from the O's and Jays that include a couple major league players. One guy posted that they should trade Konerko for AJ; it took them over 2 pages before someone remarked that the Marlins had Delgado at 1B. None of them seemed to realize they need more offense.
  7. He gave up a run: http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/gracema01.shtml
  8. I only caught the first inning of this. Kenny Mayne seemed a little too into it, firing the ball all around the field from the outfield.
  9. It's from this article: http://www.sfweekly.com/Issues/2005-07-06/news/feature_1.html Good stuff...in a Joe Morgan is an idiot way.
  10. Polls are closed. I got 225+ ballots in the last hour, cut off on my 10th different email address.
  11. Wow, 49,000 ahead - I didn't know Katherine Harris was in charge of tabulating All-Star balloting.
  12. Is it even really necessary to register the email address? I mean, can't you just type in any random email address and vote? It's not like they send you a confirmation email or anything. Whenever I have to put in an email address for something and I don't have to confirm anything, I just usually use no@shutup.com or something like that. Have they released an updated vote count since June 1st? I've found that you can use the same email address just change the name and the birthdate. I use my first initial and last name on two email accounts, so after hitting the limit, I changed the first name to my sister who has the same initial and it was allowed. So I just made up names and birthdates. Got 150 in.
