  1. Either way, a good GM would not sign Neifi to a 2 year, $6m deal.
  2. Who said this? Maddux or Bob Ibach? Bob said the organization thinks he's soft...but bob said he agreed and the league seems to have that idea. He also said with his age, potential, and no known structural injury reported now, he'll always been interesting to teams. Thanks.
  3. Who said this? Maddux or Bob Ibach?
  4. Story already up on the Sun-Times website. "As Pierzynski went back to the dugout, he raised his hands in the air while a soldout crowd at U.S. Cellular Field roared. He slapped hands with his teammates." Z better put one right in AJ Eyechart's ribs first time he comes to the plate tomorrow.
  5. They should save his debut for the Cubs.
  6. You can't stop Hank White...you can only hope to contain him.
  7. When does Mark Buerhle become available to pitch for his beloved Cards?
  8. I agree. That's why I'm prepared (and hoping) for a disastrous 2006 which should end with the firing of Hendry and Baker. I've been a Cub fan for 35+ years now and I've never been as dissapointed in them as I have the last two seasons. They were bad in the mid 70's and early 80's but you knew they didn't have a chance. The talent and opportunity in the last two seasons and the inability to cash in on it makes me sick.
  9. Not yet, let's wait for the inevitable Preston Wilson signing.
  10. Wouldn't it make more sense to use the same voting procedures as the BBWA uses? Ask everyone who they would place on their ballot and see who comes up with 75%. I would pick Sutter, Blyleven.
  11. Phil's had a little too much Christmas eggnog.
  12. I agree, throw Rothschild under the bus with those two. I don't want to see Prior or Zambrano traded for anyone in MLB.
  13. As much as I would hate to see it happen, that's quite an attractive package of players that the White Sox could offer.
  14. I hope he goes. The Sox re-sign the Big Skirt, who then proceeds to get hurt in the season along with Thome forcing KW to sign Jurassic Carl again. Then we'll see if Ozzie's small ball can carry that team.
  15. No, Georgia is 5-1, SC is 5-3.
  16. Yes, it is a humidor. http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_3016185
  17. Yeah, it happened on Fri 01 July in a 3-2 win in San Diego. I remember it cause I was at the CUBS game that day. I checked the paper and some websites and couldn't find a word about it. That did surprise me a little, as I can remember some hoopla when the CUBS won their 8,000th game back in the early part of the '82 season. I remember the big deal about the Cubs 8000th win also. I vaguely recall a dispute with the Giants over who reached it first. Do you recall any details about it?
  18. Thanx for the kind words. I'm sure you'll appreciate the great contrast between the Dodgers and the Giants, with the Dodgers winning their first WS in 1955 the year after the Giants won their last one. Consider these 2 time frames...... 1876 thru 1954 World Series team W L pct PA W L Los Angeles Dodgers 4939 4740 0.510 7 0 7 San Francisco Giants 5851 4652 0.557 14 5 9 1955 thru 2005 World Series team W L pct PA W L Los Angeles Dodgers 4364 3717 0.540 16 6 5 San Francisco Giants 4190 3895 0.518 8 0 3 That's quite a reversal of fortunes, even though neither team was ever bad for any prolonged period of time. So the Giants won the 10,000th game in their history this season. I don't recall any hype about it. It seems that would be something MLB would rally around, or did the Bonds scandal put a damper on it?
  19. Good points, Priorknowledge...boy, that depresses me.
  20. I promised myself that I wouldn't watch any of the coverage of the celebration and I pretty much lived up to that yesterday. Last night though while I was at my mom's for dinner, the news was on and they were talking about the parade and celebration planned for today and some video of the fans celebrating. It looked like a lot of fun and I felt a pang of jealousy but a certain happiness crept in, mostly for my close relatives who are getting their first chance to celebrate their team's success. One person in particular came to my mind, a true Cub-hating, die hard Sox fan; a cousin who died in September from cancer. He lived for the Sox, especially the last few months of his life. One of my sisters was at a neighborhood bar with his 2 brothers when the final out was made. She said they were so happy, for the first time in months. Even though she is a Cub fan, she said it was worth the Sox winning just to see the happiness it brought to them. After that it seemed like all the hate & jealousy I had for the Sox and their fans was stupid and childish. I thought of when I was 9 and how I suffered through the Cubs collapse of 1969; or that when my dad was 9 it was 1945 and he never thought he was witnessing the last Cub pennant in his life. I have a nephew, who is 9 years old and he jumped on the Sox bandwagon the last couple months. It bothered me a little but it was fun to see him so excited and talking about playing baseball, if it will get him away from the GameBoy and XBox, then why get mad about what team he cheers for? He's impressionable, if the Cubs somehow are in the Sox place next season, I may be seeing him wearing a Cubs hat and shirt. So it pained me to see an interview with a man waiting outside a shop for Sox merchandise at 7 in the morning, two small babies in his arms. The first words out of his mouth were not about how great he felt about the Sox winning it but that it was not the Cubs. You have Sox fans pleading with Cub fans to join the fun, "do it for Chicago," yet there are still a lot of Sox fans who want to rub it in our noses first and foremost. Who wants to celebrate such a great accomplishment with such hatred and jealousy? Such a waste. Too many people in this city never got the chance to witness any baseball championship, celebrate the moment. This is a great city, we don't need a sports championship to validate our standing in the world. When the day arrives that we finally see the Cubs win the World Series, I just want to soak up that excitement and not worry about how a White Sox fan is feeling. With that said, it's time for us to put this painful 2005 season behind us and look forward to a better 2006. [sorry if this is not the correct forum for this post. Also sorry if it was too long, I just needed to get it off my chest.]
  21. Wow, that's weird. I live near the Cell and there have been only sporadic bursts of car honking and a few rounds of firecrackers going off. Not quite the wild celebration I expected. The only thing consistently loud is the helicopters flying around.
  22. Most of my friends who are Sox fans, keep wanting me to join their side and hop on the bandwagon. I just refuse and it pisses them off because "it's for Chicago." I still think that's a lame excuse. We're supposed to be a World-class city and we want a sports championship to define us. That's weak and I don't recall hearing people in NY or LA saying that. I live about a mile SW of The Cellblock, I wear my Cubs cap almost everyday. No animosity towards me, just some good natured ribbing and calls to jump on the bandwagon. As for what I'm gonna do when the Sox clinch? A self-imposed local media blackout for about a week. No newspaper, local TV or radio. I get all the relevant Cub news right here and at Desipio.com.
  23. Keep him on the Astros, the Cubs seem to do pretty well against him.
