  1. Good at hockey, not so well calling baseball. Vince Lloyd & Lou Boudreau were great in the radio booth. Pat Hughes and Len Kaspar are the best pair of TV/radio guys in the ML today.
  2. It has nothing to do with the need to, has to do with the potential suck out every little penny possible. Just be thankful Zell wants nothing to do with the team whatsoever. He simply could careless. Which is probably why he is floating the idea of naming rights. It could be entirely possible that the prospective new owners are in full support of this idea; Zell sells the naming rights, takes the heat and the new owners get the added revenue without any backlash.
  3. "We can watch him -- but from afar. Thankfully he's not in New York." Boston fans really need to get over their obsession with the Yanks. They've won the WS 2 of the last 4 years; they are as bad as the White Sox fans.
  4. Hendry hired him, so he doesn't get off the hook for DFB's reign of terror.
  5. I read about 11 pages through and had enough of the whining over what Prior made while rehabbing. Get over it, that's the system that the players union and the owners worked out. If you don't like the players making all that money, stop supporting the game. I respect a strong union like the MLBPA, I only wish unions for working class people were like that but then nobody's paying big money to see people assemble automobiles. Plus ask yourself, do you really think Prior was content with the $3M or so he was making rehabbing instead of being out on the mound preparing for the monstrous payday he would receive when he was eligible? I guess most of you guys complaining would give the money back out of love of the game. Hypocrites. The Cubs/Tribune Co, in their infinite stupidity, made a dumb move cutting Prior before finding out if he could actually pitch again. Until he gets on the mound and starts throwing, no one knows if he will ever return to form. The Cubs organization wasted time and money in this situation, isn't that more of a sin to those of us working hard for a living than a player "loafing"?
  6. Very well put. I've watched the Cubs for 40 years and I'm confident that they don't know what they did by releasing Prior.
  7. It just tells me that Hendry is a moron and the closest he should be to the front office is sweeping the floors and emptying the trash.
  8. Typical Chicago media crap. I don't care whether a player is a good teammate or disrupts the "chemistry", go out and play the game to the best of your abilities. I don't care what he does for the community, if you want to make your community better, go out and do it yourself, don't wait for "celebrities" to attach their name to a cause and hope that solves the problem. There's not much loyalty in professional sports these days, so it's rare when you have a guy like Kerry Wood express his desire to stay with the Cubs but why should Mark Prior have to come out and say it? Companies like to profess loyalty to their employees but will cut your job at the first sign of financial difficulties. As an athlete you should be loyal to yourself and get as much money as you can because your career can end at any time. This is just another example of the idiocy of Jim Hendry and the ineptitude of the Tribune's running of the Cubs for the last quarter century. The day can't come fast enough for these pinheads to sell the team and the new owner to clean house from top to bottom.
  9. Lol. Yea what a baby he was when he was constantly trying to come back from being hurt, while still being hurt and needing surgery. What a puss. This is a man who was paid over the past 3 years for doing *nothing* He never came back, something always ached, and then when it was time for him to step up as a "good guy" and stay with the franchise that nursed him along over all these years he splits because he wants MORE money. If this was a person at your job that acted in such a manner and wanted a raise after being on medical leave for 3 years, you'd be up in arms. If I spent a lot of money on a project but bailed out on it before realizing if it would work, I would be looking for another job.
  10. Oops. Sorry.
  11. That is funny stuff. First time I've visited there in over 3 years, glad to see their inferiority complex is still going strong. That header at the top of the page with the Wrigley sign and the slams at Sammy never gets old. You would think a fan board for a team with a World Championship would want to focus on that instead of some tired old grudge.
  12. Does anyone here play HBD (Hardball Dynasty) at What If? It's a simulation game where you control a baseball organization (Major League team and 5 levels of minor leagues). Players are rated in various categories (Offense - Contact, Power, Batting Eye, Speed; Defense - Glove, Range, Arm; Pitchers - Control, Stamina, Durability, Velocity, up to 5 pitches; Intangibles - Health, Make-Up, Durability, Patience, Temper). There is trading, free-agent signings, International FAs, Amateur Draft, a Rule V draft - everything that happens in Major League Baseball is incorporated into this game. This would seem like a good game for all the wanna-be GMs here. http://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Main/
  13. MJD lasting until the 14th round? "Nearly everyone was competent" is a stretch.
  14. Pat Boyle of Comcast Sportsnight is also reporting this on the Steve Dahl show.
  15. Gotta get back to grinders baseball, mang.
  16. I don't understand why Cub fans keep saying this. The time to cut ties will be when neither shows they can pitch again. The Cubs have spent a lot of time and money on both and it would be foolish to let them both walk away with nothing in return. Sure everyone would love to see Wood and Prior revert to their 2003 form but a more realistic view is that one or both are healthy enough to knock Marquis from this staff. Is it less foolish to continue paying for their rehab and have them on the DL? I think depending on Wood to start is even more foolish, unless the Cubs have 2 arms ready in the minors to take over for him and 4 minor arms if they are depending on Prior + Wood and they deal Marquis. It is foolish to base your offseason moves on both guys being ready to pitch, as Hendry has done in the past. The fact is that since Hendry and the Cubs have spent the money on Wood & Prior to rehab, why not see if they can bounce back? Yet there are fans who would rather throw away the money that was spent instead of finding out if your investment will pan out? How foolish would it be to cut bait now and see both of them pitch well for other teams? I say, if they can't pitch for us, better make damn sure they can't pitch for anyone else.

  18. Cubs would have been swept in 3.
  19. Yeah, that's why I think if anything happens it probably won't be until after Dec 15, when Nocioni is available to trade.
  20. If you want a quick salary cap lesson and the lowdown on the possibility of Kobe coming ot the Bulls, check out this thread - http://www.desipio.com/messageboard/index.php?topic=5584.0. The KD who is giving the info, is one of the top basketball writers for SI.
  21. Second basemen bat second, dude.
  22. What part of NO TRADE CLAUSE don't you understand? Mr. Miles mentioned that in an article shortly after the playoff loss and also posted it here.
