    Well, now... Maybe this is the game that turns StL's season around. Their offense is not so impressive without Albert there. Maybe an entire weekend that changes the luck from Rolen's "Buckner" to Pujols getting injured. We have certainly done the Reds a favor. They have beaten Houston twice in a row to pull within 3 games of first place.

    This winning thing kind of feels good. :) A win tonight would be sweet as one of my close buddies is a huge Reds fan and was running his mouth before the series. Not that I'd have blamed him. :?

    The really BAD thing about anybody in Cubs brass using that piece of wishful thinking is that the 2005 ASTROS GOT SWEPT BY THE WHITE SOX!!!! :lol: I don't aspire to get swept by the White Sox. 8) Aim higher!!!!!! :wink:

    It is a lot more complicated than that. Spending money alone doesn't "earn" ANY team a darn thing. The Yankees have not won the World Series in 6 years. When they did win 4 out of 5 titles in the late 90's, they did it primarily with homegrown talent combined with above-average free agents but no superstar signings. Add up how many rings they've gained since making big splashes like Giambi, ARod, Randy Johnson, etc; the number is ZERO. The team that wins the World Series every season has EARNED IT regardless of the payroll. Money spent foolishly is not rewarded; money spent wisely is rewarded and I maintain those rules hold true regardless if the payroll is $200 million or $50 million. If you spend wisely with what you have, there is no reason to feel tainted if you win a title.

    Nice sig. I wonder what Bobby Bonds would say/think about all of this if he were still with us? Like others, I'll have to say it's still Aaron/Ruth to me. I don't even need the asterisk.

    It is at least excitement. Something that has been sorely lacking for weeks! Not real confident about the extra innings. Haven't we went through about the entire bullpen by now?

    Lack of support? The Cubs have had great attendance figures for years. The fans are responsible for Lee, Prior and Wood being injured? You can't be serious. :shock: The ownership of the franchise has been the starting point of the problem for decades. The organization at every level is NOT doing it's best.

    I could not be more delighted. Only 3 more losses to match the magic 18-32 start of the '05 Astros, at which point the Cubs will instantly turn into the National League Champions. Seriously, even if it was possible do we really want to become the '05 Astros? It would mean getting swept by the White Sox in the World Series. :x Oh, I think Neifi Perez is vastly underpaid and should get a $10 million bonus immediately for his mere greatness alone.
