  1. Nothing new. He's a copycat if nothing else. A Lions fan pulled off an ebay auction during the past NFL season. I guess if people want attention it's the way to go.
  2. Yeah then he gets doubled up again. He's making ManRam look like a doctor of baserunning.
  3. OMG, I'm sick and it about chokes me to death to laugh so I'm wheezing for air right now!
  4. Kewl. I've got a 1970 Ernie Banks card that I got 10 years ago when my cousin offered it in exchange for a Bo Jackson rookie card LOL! Works for me. 8) My most valuable cards I reckon are my 2 Jerry Rice rookie cards in near mint condition.
  5. That was always my philosophy. Haven't been into cards for 15 years but I used to buy them by the case and ravenously open every pack. I do have a fair amount of special autographed cards. Not that they are worth that much but it's cool. I'm a pack rat of sports collectibles. I do have 2 Jerry Rice rookie cards in mint/near mint. :)
  6. This phenomenon has to be Dusty's call because I don't think I've seen Cedeno swing the bat yet when Pierre is on base ahead of him. He lays down the bunt at least 8 times out of 10 from what I've seen. Bunting with Pierre on 1st, I don't like that. As someone else said, half the point of signing a guy like Pierre is his ability to get to 2nd on his own. Why waste the out without giving him a chance to steal unless the pitcher/catcher combo is particularly difficult to steal on? Bunting with Pierre on 2nd depends on the situation. Doing it in the 1st inning with nobody out? Dumb. Doing it in the bottom of the 9th in a tie game with nobody out? I could see it more then. It's just interesting as much as Dusty seems to detest walks and prefers swinging the bat to generate runs that he is willing to give up an out so much rather than having people swing away. Especially when you have Cedeno hitting the ball so well.
  7. Big Smooth!!!! I love that nickname. That was Sam Perkin's nickname in the NBA. Everytime he'd launch a three pointer at Conseco Fieldhouse the whole crowd would yell SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH!! So yeah, Sean Marshall can run with that one. It's a pimpin nickname. 8)
  8. Nah, I think obviously the best approach is to boo and rip a player up and down. That has been proven effective hasn't it??? Or maybe not.
  9. So how many runs to the Cubs need to score to win today with the Pillsbury Doughboy pitching? :x
  10. Hey, it's obvious the best alternative for the fans is to boo and bash players into the ground for having a slow start. You can't produce in April? BOOOOOOO! Jinxes, goats, Bartman, etc. Sometimes I think most of our fanbase is just hunting for tragedy before it even happens. Myself, let's see how the season unfolds. April at Wrigley is not very forgiving to some hitters and if you don't realize that then you have not been paying much attention the past 20 years at least. Heck, Derrick Lee had a SLOW start in 2004, I suppose folks were ready to boo him too. I'd just like to see the day Cubs fans could stop acting like fatalistic drama actors and just roll with the everyday ups and downs of MLB baseball. Criticism is fine, we all need to view things critically but I think some folks just take it to the Nth degree way too soon. It's one thing to critically evaluate a player but to already be halfway inclined to ship him to China is a bit over the top. Not that my opinion matters much, carry on. Just had to speak my piece.
  11. Standing 9-5 and close to the top of the division, I think I'll hope for the best and avoid the sharp objects. I don't care to see the replay once more just deliver the facts within a couple days so the team knows what the timeframe will be for DLee's return. If he has to miss a month, so be it. Just another challenge the team must meet. Not a happy moment but let's see what the official medical conclusion shall be. My two cents anyways.
  12. Jerome Williams held up his end of the bargain and had a quality start. Let's hope Rusch can pull his head out of a dark place and pitch a similar game tomorrow to afford the Cubs the opportunity to win the series. Somehow, I'm not holding my breath though. At least Arroyo don't play for Pittsburgh.
  13. Overall, a pretty good start. The Cubs historically have tended to dig a hole early in the season and be forced to play catchup all season. Well maybe not so much in recent years but I can remember plenty of seasons since 1986 where I spent half the year rooting for the Cubs to get back to .500. Of course with our success in the new millenium, the bar is raised as it should be. Not really in the mood to break it down into a lot of detail but the only thing that really bothers as a TEAM was losing the series to Cincinnati at home. The 9 game splits idea is interesting and perhaps a simple way to gauge the pace the team is on. Myself, I look at this way: win or tie every series and everything falls into place. Win 2 out of 3 everytime and you finish 108-54. Obviously very few teams hit that mark but it sets a good general rule of thumb that keeps me from losing my mind when the Cubs are in a situation like tonight having lost a very winnable game and blown a quality start by Williams when we should be in position to sweep. So I tell myself, as long as we win tomorrow it is fine. Split 2 @ Cincy Sweet 3 vs Cards Lost 2 of 3 vs Cincy The sweep of the Cards offsets the lost series to the Reds so if the Cubs win on Sunday, then I'm feeling like they are still on the right track at least from a pure W/L perspective. Although I'm a bit frightened by the state of our starting rotation with Prior/Wood crippled. Not sure I can buy the notion of the Cubs staying in the race until October unless Prior returns, we trade for another starter or a young kid steps up. Wood I'm writing off as a starter unfortunately. Keep him in the pen whenever he does regain health. I do think the Cubs should score enough runs more often than not although obviously tonight was a failure from that standpoint. Any given day that you allow 2 runs or fewer, need to win about 99% of the time in my opinion. :(
  14. Yeah the Cubs got a clutch 2 out basehit. Bullpen needs to hold strong and I'll take my chances at 6 outs against the Buckos.
  15. FRICKING FRACK!!! Almost the sacks loaded.
  16. Sorry not buying that. Say Marshall remains in the game and gives up the long ball? Then it's "stupid Baker why leave the rookie in the game?" The manger is damned either way. He leaves the starter in too long or pulls them too soon? It's all so subjective. Nobody has a crystal ball. The manager certainly isn't damned either way. The fact of the matter is that leaving Marshall in gave us a better chance to get out of it. You're acting as if the only choices were to let Wuertz let two in or Marshall give up the longball. With Marshall being an extreme groundball pitcher, there was more than a decent chance that he could've kept anything from happening at all. Nah sorry but the manager is always damned if he does, damned if he doesn't on any given decision. The manager makes a call and it is up the the player to execute. A manager can make the perfect move in the perfect situation and it does not work out. And he can make the worst move in the worst situation but if it works, most people don't complain. If you don't understand that then you haven't watched enough baseball over the years. i had no problem w/ taking marshall out, but the 'i've watched more baseball than you' argument is weak, weak, weak. Well if you have watched enough baseball you understand that the manager can make whatever call he wants, the end result is not guaranteed. Not a weak argument. It's just a given if you follow the game at all. I mean we all can micromanage to death every decision but all the manager can do is make his call & hope for the best. And even if he makes an intelligent decision, there is no guarantee his choice turns out. So I guess if pointing out the obvious is weak then so be it.

  19. Mission accomplished.
  20. He can do a full floor gymnastic routine, I don't care. He just hit a 3 run bomb on the Cardinals!
