  1. You...do know that that's really low, right? Oh man, I missed that sentence. Fanatic, you might NOT want to mention that when you're trying to compliment Theriot. By comparison, Juan Pierre had a stellar .330 OBP in his one year in Chicago. The fact is noted and it won't be used again but just for the rest of you: Khalil Greene last year had a stellar .291 OBP last year. But what was his slugging and such? You put Greene in Wrigley, he will dwarf Theriot in every category minus OBP. His OPS would probably be close to 200 points higher.
  2. Oh boy, here we go again. Theriot was 1 of the worst starting shortstops in the NL. His obp isnt good enough since he does nothing else with the bat. He doesnt take pitches at all. He is fine as a utility guy, but thats it.
  3. 90 wins as the bare minimum every year for 5 years? That's a ridiculously high standard. The only teams to pull that off in recent memory were the Braves (with one of the greatest GM/manager combos in history) and the Yankees (with twice the payroll as the Cubs). Not saying Hendry's done a great job, but considering the injuries we've had to deal with from our best players basically every year, I don't think anyone could have pulled 90 wins every year in the past 5 years. Quit with the injury excuse nonsense. Hendry shouldn't have built a team that could only win if young pitchers stayed healthy to begin with, and he shouldn't have let a manager like Dusty Baker manage them if that's what he wanted. Who said anything about bare minimum? 90 wins should be expected year in and year out. 85 wins should be considered a disappointment. 95-100 should be attainable on occasion. There's no excuse for sub .500. I'm not saying fire a guy the first time his team goes under 90 wins. But I'm not interested in C students running the ship. Excellence should be the only accepted performance level, and Hendry hasn't even come close. Yeah, blame Hendry for building around 3 young aces. Stupid him. You can't objectively look at Hendry's tenure and not take injuries into consideration. Sure, he deserves blame for bringing Dusty Baker into the organization, but he also lost Nomar and Lee to basically season-ending injuries two years in a row. I don't think Hendry's done a particularly good job, but he's not the complete failure this board likes to tout him as. No you cant blame Hendry for injuries. However, you can blame him for continually relying on pitchers who have been injured to be a major part of his staff. It took Hendry way to long to quit depending on Wood and Prior. Lets not even get into Hendrys complete mismanagement of contracts. Its a joke.
  4. The Brewers had Chris Capuano, Bill Hall and either Rolen's entire salary or the Cardinals pick up a portion of the salary and the Brewers add a "top" prospect. That is value. And that trade didnt go thru, because Doug Melvin had second thoughts because of all the baggage with Rolen right now. Rolen is a shell of his former self plain and simple. Not according to every media outlet I've read. The issue was the Cardinals wanted the Brewers to assume full salary as well as send a top prospect. The Brewers wanted to do one or the other. It apparently did not have anything to do with Rolen's baggage. Of course I agree with you that he is a shell of his former self, but Melvin and the Brewers doctors looked at his medical files and were ready to go through with the trade even after that. Heres the article I was referring to Wolf. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=693327
  5. Are you really this dumb? If somebody answers "Oh Im going to University of Illinois", you seriously think that sounds correct? Wouldnt surprise me at all coming from a Mizzou student, but its wrong. And you of all people should know about blind homer-ism. Enjoy yourself. Im done with this thread, Ill stick to the BCS thread, while you enjoy your non BCS game. Are you really that dumb? As TT said, I'm talking about the abbreviation, not the full name. I'm glad you're taking your whining and crying elsewhere. We're all better off because of it. Lol Kiss my ass. Did I spell everything ok ?
  6. Hes the one that had the problem with it. Like I said if I was trying to sound all high and mighty, I would have capitalized THE. Obviously he has a problem with me for my so called homerism, and he felt this was the time to say something. Whatever
  7. Or perhaps Pittsburgh is simply getting exposed? The Steelers had the 32nd ranked schedule coming in, including no games against top-13 teams. Let's not forget the Pats last two games. This game is a lot closer with Troy Palamalu playing safety. Yes, I agree. Safety help was awful twice, and thus an integral part in two long TD's. I think Pittsburgh is a good team, but we didn't have much to go on until today. This is a team that lost to the Jets and beat Miami 3-0. The Miami game shouldnt really be brought up. The weather for that game was ridiculous. Im not saying Pitt is a great team, but I think with a healthy Palamau this game is alot closer.

  10. Floridas recievers laugh in the face of Meyer as they are transferring to the U of I as well. Oh god. What? I think you are getting a little nit picky. Heaven forbid I ever use the word "the" before saying U of I, considering it sounds stupid without the word "the", but whatever. And with that I will post this. Mizzou commit London Davis TE from Cahokia Il, has backed out of his commitment, to come join THE Zooker. Wait, Illinois recruited a player after he had verbally committed to another school?!?!?! Oh the humanity!!!! That said, "U of I" needs the "the" in front of it. No like what has been said Mizzou wanted Davis to switch positions, but Davis didnt want to so he openly announced to EVERYBODY he was decommiting, unlike certain players we wont mention. And yes "the" belongs in front of U of I.
  11. No I posted "the" before U of I because it sounds correct. IIf I wanted it to sound high any mighty I wouldve at least capitalized it. You can admit being nit picky over anything U of I, its okay. Enjoy your bowl
  12. What a play by NE wow

  17. The Cardinals were dumb to even think they could get any kind of value out of Rolen.
  18. Skiles has finally gotten over his mancrush of Kirk, and finally started playing the better player in this season. Kirk has been abysmal, and really has no business starting right now.
  19. I dont think Dempster will be on the 2008 Cubs roster.
  20. That's because every team uses about 6 or 7 starters, some many more. Of course you can find worse pitchers. But the only way you can be satisfied with the numbers Marquis gave you is if he was a 25 year old making his debut in the majors. You cannot seriously be satisfied getting those numbers in the first year of a three year contract of a guy with Marquis's track record. I think your expectations of a $7MM free agent starting pitcher are unrealistic. Last year, among the other pitchers others were hoping for were Padilla $9MM 5.76 ERA 1.63 WHIP, Zito ($10MM last year, big remaining contract) 4.53 ERA 1.35 WHIP and Schmidt ($15.75MM) 6.31 ERA 1.71 WHIP. Compared to those guys on the market, Marquis' deal was not that bad. For Christ's sake... Other team's mistakes (or bad luck) do not justify Hendry's. You could have gotten similarly crappy production out of a rookie pitcher for the league minimum. That is a ridiculous statement. Try actually looking up pitchers stats. If stats like Marquis' were so easy to put up by a rookie or any pitcher, every team would have a rotation filled with pitchers with those stats or better than those stats. April ERA 2.37 Whip 1.17 Could a rookie put up these numbers...Probably not May ERA 3.39 Whip 1.05 Could a rookie put up these numbers...Possible June ERA 5.09 Whip 1.7 Could a rookie put up these numbers...Absolutely July ERA 6.20 Whip 1.51 Could a rookie put up these numbers...Absolutely August ERA 4.45 Whip 1.48 Could a rookie put up these numbers...Absolutely September ERA 6.21 Whip 1.56 Could a rookie put up these numbers ...Absolutely. Care to keep saying Marquis pitched good?

Marquis was a bad signing when it was made, it was a bad signing after his 1st season here, and it will continue to get worse, the longer he stays here.
  22. EJ, Ive heard Ferentz is back at top of MIchigans wishlist.
  23. It worked out well last year. This year probably not so much. It did? An ERA near 5 and a WHIP of almost 1.4 is working out well? It worked out well for about 1 month(April) and then it was all downhill from there Yes, they may not be sexy numbers but they are still very decent numbers for a back of the rotation pitcher. Marquis is terrible. I'd rather give that rotation spot to one of the kids making peanuts. And to top it all off they probably will be better than an overpaid Marquis. Terrible contract. Marquis is not terrible by any stretch of the imagination. I'm sure that almost every team in the NL would have loved to have their 4th or 5th starter put up the numbers he put up last year. Just for fun take a look at other teams complete rotations, and compare them to the numbers Marquis put up last year. Is Marquis great? Not even close, but he is not terrible. Marquis is terrible, period. You can believe what you want but the fact remains Marquis sucks. Have you even seen how bad he was down the stretch? Look at his numbers the year before, the guys SUCKS. Try looking up his stats. He was above average for a back of the rotation starter last year. Those stats will tell you he was above average in April and progressively worse as the season went on, and was downright pathetic the 2nd half the season.
