  1. Okay Bill Clinton. I don't care that Lee had a nice weekend either, the stats suck at multiple positions including catcher, and they've had a worthless 7th reliever all year. Like I said I agreed with everything else you said, but the notion that Soto is giving piss poor production right now isnt true, and Lee having a good game, not weekend, isnt in the same category. The stats are on a very strong upward trend for catcher, unlike the other positions you mentioned, so I feel it is pretty unfair to lump catcher into the piss poor production right now category. They have had a worthless 7th reliever all year, and I agree 100% that calling up a bat to use in place of that reliever is a good idea.
  2. I agree with everything you say, except I think we can take catcher out of the piss poor production category. Soto in May has an OPS near .800 and they only reason thats so low is hes not hitting for power. Everything else in his stat line in May is pretty damn good, and Id be ecstatic if his average and OBP are where they are for the month of May in his final stat line. .298 .382 .404 .786 so far in the exact same amount of at bats as April. Damn that slugging is piss poor though The catcher production sucks for the year, and that is the point. It sucked for the first 47 at bats and has been above average for the 2nd 47 at bats. Your statement that they are getting piss poor production from catcher right now is wrong. Right now they arent getting piss poor production from catcher. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggregate?sort=OPS&split=78&group=8&season=2009&seasonType=2&statType=batting&type=reg The Cubs have a 674 OPS out of the catchers spot this year, 15th out of 16 NL teams. Sorry, I'm not wrong. They have a worthless 7th reliever, no 3rd baseman and are getting piss poor production from 2b, 1b and catcher. Those numbers are like that from his 1st 47 at bats when they were getting piss poor production. You said "right now" they are getting piss poor production, which is false. An OPS of near .800 in his last 47 at bats, and an OPS over 1.000 in his last 7 games is not getting piss poor production RIGHT NOW.
  3. holy [expletive] Thats what happens when you are 6 ft 6 310 lbs and punch a guy 6 ft tall 150 lbs. Real nice huh
  4. Football players are idiots. Another Illini football in trouble with the law. Mike Garrity was arrested this weekend for punching a guy at Kams and fracturing his skull. Zook needs to get the program under control. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-19-illini-footmay19,0,2006370.story This has now been said to be completely false. They have Garrity on videotape at Kams, just punching this guy for basically no reason. Oh and Garrity is a 6'6" 310 lineman. What a punk.
  5. John Wall to Kentucky. Thats one hell of a class Calipari has coming in.

  7. So, I see that Mephs homeboy Greene has now become a very very high priced utility guy. Color me shocked that hes absolutely terrible still.
  8. Vick released from prison today......everyone hide their dogs
  9. Gamel also had an error in his 1st game in the Majors. His defense is going to hurt that team, more than its going to help them. Just about everyone at one point or another will make a "great" play. Its the routine plays that Gamel cant make. See his throwing error from his night as evidence.

  11. Hopefully he can get a promotion to high A by mid/end of June and maybe even get into AA by the end of the year. Should be interesting to see how aggressive the Cubs are with promoting him. I would think, barring any injuries or severe slumps, Vitters should be in AA full time by June/July of next year. I would say there is probably zero chance Vitters is in AA by the end of the year, and I highly doubt he would get promoted to high A in June. Maybe towards the end of the year he gets a promotion to high A, but I wouldnt think itd happen in June.
  12. How many 19 year old position prospects, playing in class A for the Cubs, have put up the type of numbers Vitters is putting up?
  13. Really if you read the article there really isnt a need for the guy to be hired by the Cubs. Hes being sent DVD's of Fuku's swing, and will be coming back to the US in July to meet with Fuku again. So basically hes a free hitting coach for the Cubs every couple of months. Also in the article, it talks about Fukus elbow causing alot of his problems last year, and he changed stuff mechanically, which the hitting coach from Japan noticed. It would definately make sense why he started out so well, and then struggled as the season went on and the elbow started bothering him more. Whatever the reason, I really dont care as long as Fuku keeps up with the season hes having so far.
  14. Yes this is what I was talking about when I said he did some showboating after the catch. He laid there all sprawled out with a huge ass grin on his face, and then did his little gallop into the infield. The guy doesnt know how to do anything without showboating it. If I was a pitcher, I would do the Joba fist pump towards Braun every time I struck him out, but that wont happen because most of the pitchers arent douchebags like Braun, and know they could get a teammate or themselves plunked.
  15. While you are right about Ohio State getting good crowds to games and being at or near the top every year, I think this statement says it all. When you look at those 2 numbers right there I can understand why the Ohio State coach would be the 1 quoted. Almost a 6000 person difference in average crowds. I mean if Ohio State is only averaging 1800 a game and they are one of the better Big Ten schools, thats pretty sad.
  16. Goodness, some of you guys are [expletive]. He didn't show boat, just watch the highlight. He dove, rolled over, smiled (for MAYBE a second or two), threw the ball in and just ran into the dugout. The day that is considered disrespectful, showboating, or worthy of a shot to the ear is the day I stop watching baseball. Why don't you try watching the highlight before you assume that he is as much of a douchebag as you think he is. (had to put this because it reminds me of Braun) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2009_05_18_milmlb_slnmlb_1&mode=wrap All I had to do was watch last weeks game vs the Cubs to know that he is as big a douchebag as I think he is. The stuff tonight wont get him a shot in the ear, but his other antics(see home run vs Dempster) should.
  17. Sorry if this has been discussed somewhere before, but I dont recall seeing it. Apparently teams from the Midwest and the North are complaining about how NCAA baseball is "one-sided" towards warmer weather schools. Here is the 1st article in a series of articles regarding what the schools are trying to do do even out the playing field a little. Pretty interesting topic in my opinion and I definatly see why some schools are complaining. http://www.pjstar.com/sports/x1194180058/NCAA-baseball-is-one-sided
  18. Zambrano is undoubtedly infuriating to non-Cubs fans. If he weren't on our team, we'd hate him. He's not Jose Valverde (who's going to get one of his teammates hurt at some point) bad, but he's in the ballpark. Fans always overlook/spin the behavior of their own players. I cant really recall Z doing a thing in the last 2 years. As for Aram and Sori, they both like to look at their homeruns, and they then round the bases. The crap Bruan pulled towards Demp was as big a douchebag move as I think Ive ever seen. That was something you see in movies like Major League, but not in the real game of baseball. Hes going to get plunked alot in his career, and I really hope he gets the treatment Ventura got from Nolan Ryan.
  19. I didn't see much showboating...to me it looked like he smiled a bit after making the catch because even he was probably surprised he got it, threw the ball back in, and went to the dugout because it was the end of the inning. Maybe there was something different on a St. Louis feed, but that's all they showed on FS Wisconsin. It's not like he stood there and demanded that we all bask in his glow after the catch or anything. It was nice to sweep the Cardinals, and hopefully the Cubs can do the same. ;) You didnt catch the whole lay there for 5 secs all sprawled out on the ground? Then his little gallup into the infield? Im telling you this, tonight may not have been much, but hes going to eventually pay for his antics, its just a matter of time.
  20. The Braun catch was a nice catch, but you know what? Adam dunn, Chris Duncan, and other mediocre left fielders have made diving catches also. But unlike those guys, they lacked the showboating after it.
  21. The Cards arent a threat. They will be in the discussion, like they were in the discussion last year, which means they really wont be in the discussion.
  22. He's also starting at catcher and has 2 passed balls through 6 innings. :-s Ha wow thats horrible, although its been quite awhile since he caught in a game hasnt it?
  23. he's 19 and in low A ball. I wasnt being serious. Cant blame Truffle for thinking you were
  24. That didnt take long =D>
  25. Soooooooooooooo where are ALL those people who were calling some of us idiots, dumb, naive, etc... for saying we werent at all worried about the St Louis Cardinals?
