  1. Not that this has anything to do with anything, but when exactly do/did the Cubs write the final check to Soriano?
  2. Does it have an effect on how you view free agent starting pitchers and trade targets? i.e., starting pitchers who threw to rotten pitch framing catchers last year are actually better than their numbers suggest, and therefore could be had at a discount. I would think relievers would be too small a sample size.
  3. Nothing's going to happen. Tampering never goes anywhere. It would barely be a story if people weren't bored. But the fact that the Cubs have a version of events doesn't end it. This. If there's no evidence, there's no evidence. But the Cubs saying there was no tampering, doesn't make it so.
  4. "Late last week" and "Friday" seem kind of synonymous. Also, couldn't it have been industry knowledge that he had an opt-out clause? Maddon had two weeks to decide, his decision was made Friday. That means the industry might've known about it through their sources for the previous two weeks ever since Friedman left. Friday may be late last week but late last week does not mean Friday. Sure, all this could be on the up and up, but the point is there is an awful lot of smoke here. There's no way maddon opts out with only the twins in search of a manager. Had to know somebody was wanting to hire him. With no one else showing any interest......... It's clearly tampering. The only question is, is it technically, and demonstrably tampering. That is very specious logic. It's nothing of the sort. The poster before me indicated that it "could be on the up and up". That's what makes it work. No deal in place, just an informal conversation. It can't be proven, but if you're telling me you believe no one with the Cubs had any contact with anyone associated with Maddon, I have a bridge to sell you.

  6. Fujikawa option declined, Villanueva filed for free agency: 35
  7. Anything interesting/new?
  8. Can't think of anything looking at those pictures but Andre Dawson saying, "when I hit one over the fence at Wrigley Field, I hit it over a tru-link fence."
  9. Really risky click
  10. Did Tim pay you to say that as some sort of subtle advertising? "Site returning soon!"
  11. I wouldn't count buddy Carlyle out. He clearly has access to people who can get their hands on compromising photos of just about anyone.
  12. Three words to blow your mind: Ice. Cream. Sandwich
  13. I think part of the playoff odds things are based on how well the team has played (not just record) as well as remaining schedule. So that makes sense to me. Yup. Oak lands run differential is ridiculous.
  14. TIL size does matter.
  15. Olt ops higher than Baez'. Not saying, just sayin'.
  16. I signed up 9/2013 (I think) and had that number as of the last time I checked which was sometime this summer. Something's not right. I signed up in 2011 and I'm at 55,000
  17. Because there's a bunch of interesting stuff to do, especially for kids, and you can do a lot of it without breaking the bank. The zoo, the Arch, Grant's Farm, City Museum, Science Center, Magic House, Botanical Gardens and the brewery tour are all pretty centrally located and not terribly expensive. Just because they aren't things you'd be interested in doesn't mean they're not pretty fun things to do on a family vacation. And quit making me defend St. Louis, it makes me feel dirty. I concur with both sentiments. So much to do with the kids, great FREE stuff in and around forest park, (I live 25 minutes from the arch on the Il side). I went to a great jazz festival on art hill (heart hill) on valentines day. I, too, feel filthy expressing the good things abt STL. So let me tell you about the the heroin addiction epidemic, the abandoned neighborhood, intense racism, and general filth.
  18. This is what I was trying to say. His value is at it's highest -rightnow-. If another GM is willing to pay full price, or at least more than what he's worth to the cubs next year (trading from a strength to a weakness), do it! Is infield power a strength? I think it is. When Rizzo, Bueno and Castro are top 35 in the nl in slg. regardless of position, and Baez and Bryant are in the wings, I think it is.
  19. I was about to post the same sentiment in the game thread. Turns out Olt has been on the DL since Aug 19
  20. Can't agree on Valbuena or Alcantara being expendable. Valbuena especially is an ideal utility guy. Nor are any of the relievers expendable. I have to believe that one of Contra or GoodValley (fertileValley?) will be traded. Adding Bryant to the team makes one of these guys expendable. I get that you don't HAVE to trade either, but with a front office that understands value, I have to think they will sell high. Valbueno is likely at his highest value right now, and in a low power environment, infield power could really be an asset other teams want and the Cubs can trade from abundance.
  21. I will be at this game. It will be my first game since spring of 2012.
  22. And when are they expected to be in place? Well, signage will be in place next year. Who knows how much of that would go to it, though... He sounded really high on the TV deal but I got in late so I don't know if he was just talking about the 2019 one or if he was addressing the 2015+ slate as well. I was under the impression money from the signs was going back into the renovations That is the reasoning given to justify them initially, but it's also been considered one of the untapped revenue streams. I'm not really sure how that will all be allocated, though. I've always had it in my mind that sign money would go to pay for renovations until they were "paid off" and then go toward salary.
