  1. I was about to take issue with you being annoyed by the "ahead of schedule" narrative. With Schwarber in the majors, and Bryant breaking rookie records, and arrieta being otherworldly, it's hard to argue that they are better than expected. Then I watched the video, and it was certainly overdone. In fact it was a little ridiculous. I'm now firmly with you. This is a great team now with a likely long window. That's the point, not whether it's a year early or two years early.
  2. I think you only take 3 of Soler, LaStella, Denorfia and Jackson and add Berry. I also can't imagine Richard, Wood, Hunter and Rodney making it over Hendricks.
  3. He wasn't supposed to be nearly this good defensively, was he? I wouldn't go that far. He was supposed to be very good, albeit with some flaws (his arm is apparently one of them). But a lot of prospects have that said about them and don't end up being that good (Kyle likes to bring this up a lot). You might be remembering him being questioned on that account. But for the most part I'd say the expectations of him/reports defensively were overall very positive. Plus plus hands.
  4. I'll be there as well. I work with a bunch of cardinals fans (near St Louis) and they bought me and the wife tickets to this game. We are staying in a hostel near wrigleyville and headed up to the game in a couple hours. Sportscomedy improv last night, then Kingston Mines blues bar, now onto the game. Great couple days in Chi-town.
  5. Sorry I derailed it. It is, in fact, neat.
  6. which is why i said it was a fun byproduct of how good our offense has been I dunno, I felt like you were laughing it off as a stat with no value, while giving an example of why it has value. I guess I was reading too much into a "lol" San Dimas high school football rules.
  7. And only 5 in the loss column
  8. Why lol at RBI? This is the perfect context for it, essentially acknowledging that it is somewhat of a team stat.
  9. Awesome game last night! Thinking about skipping work to go to this one as well. Anyone else going?
  10. Knew this was Rondon Fan before I read the username Lol. I live in metro east St Louis (Illinois side of the river) and I'm heading to the game, because I'm pretty sure Rondon Fan clones will be selling their tickets pretty cheap. And the radar looks to me like they definitely get this one in.
  11. *ahem* Madlock. Everyone forgets about Madlock. Three years doesn't count as stability. He was good, but not a fixture. he certainly wasn't a "hole" Agreed. What a horrible trade.

  13. Why would anyone have to forgive you for that Because saying nice things about the Cubs front office is not tolerated by some. Good lord, what on earth did Kyle do to you, you poor thing? Hey, when you've been lurking for 12 years, you come out of the shadows slowly and carefully.

  15. Some of you will have toforgive me, but I really like the willingness of this regime to admit a mistake and move on. Basically that they understand what a sunk cost is.
  16. It's ERA, so take it for what it's worth, but all five Cubs staters are in the top fifty in ERA in mlb.
  17. 4 game sweep of Milwaukee was probably just a shade better, since it was for the division. But it's close, and if someone wants to say this is better because it's the first big move by this particular group and it's been so long, I have no argument. I can't even remember the year, but there was a big 5 game set in wrigley against the Cardinals where the Cubs took 4 of 5 that I remember as amazing. I think this included an inning with 10 consecutive hits by the Cubs, though I may be mixing memories. I have googled myself silly trying to find these games. Can anyone help? Edit: the five game series was over Labor Day weekend 2003.
  18. You overlooked the dumbest of them all!
  19. How about the 4th best starting pitching in baseball? the 4th worst offense in baseball effectively cancels this out clearly it hasn't also, the cubs are FIFTEENTH in position player WAR, so despite their offensive badness, the other part of the team hasn't been an unmitigated disaster Except that the defensive part of that position player war is accounted for in that "4th best pitching (unless he's using FIP). Not that I agree with him, but it's a thing.
  20. Kyle has the death sentence on twelve systems. I will kill every Almora I can get my hands on, until they are as dead as their dragons, and then I will piss on their graves. We have to resign Fowler or no one will be pissing anywhere, ever.
