  1. Yuppers. Joe's approval means everything to me. I almost asked Bosio about Arrieta basically saying (On the Dempster show) Bos had no impact on his success last year. Decided not to create division.
  2. I got to ask a question about Baez in cf in the coaches panel. Joe thinks I'm witty. I can die now.
  3. I just asked Joe a question based on this tweet in the coaching staff panel discussion.bi asked if he thought this tweet was a dare to opposing hitters or a genuine desire to not have the ball hit to him. I made Joe Maddon laugh!
  4. Dempster read mean tweets, Hayward read fictional responses supposedly from Heyward. Very funny.
  5. Soon they'll own them all and demolish them to build the outfield upper deck.
  6. I'm kind of counting on this.
  7. What in the world? Its the tryptamine talking
  8. That's a long way away. Obviously August is a long way away. I'm just throwing out a legitimate possible scenario that could occur down the road, along with how I would respond to said scenario. I wouldn't be opposed to doing the same thing with Jon Lester. Having both Wood and Warren in the bullpen, along with a commanding NL Central in August, could afford that sort of luxury. Assuming Arrieta doesn't pay for those innings and sliders with dl time early in the year Assuming The rest of the rotation is healthy and effective. Assuming you have a big lead in the division (which you noted) Assuming you haven't made trades at the deadline that change the rotation dynamics. Lots of variables to be talking resting your rotation for the playoffs before pitchers and catchers even report.
  9. i fell into a 2 1/2 hour sporcle hole last night. I blame all of you.
  10. Montero. Montero. Monteiro Monterro Montero Montero, montero,Montero Did author misspell Montero? Montero...........
  11. something david ross is loaded with And mother Teresa
  12. yeah unfortunately there's a lot more important things that sheffield was a lot better at than attitude. Have you been paying attention the past 3 years? This FO considers mental makeup and clubhouse presence to be very important. No one is discounting that Sheffield was a very good player, but there's a reason he was dealt so many times. His point to s you can't take 500+ HR from Baez, because he isn't giving them. The comp proved flawed, and not because of Baez's better attitude. From all accounts, mother Theresa had a great clubhouse presence, but she wasn't hitting 500 dongs. Vow of chastity or whatever. Pay attention, man!
  13. I fully expected the last 2 pages to be about this. Instead we have a discussion about multiple World Series titles. Guess that's about right. John Baker in the front office puts them over the top in their quest for at least 2 WS titles! Better?
  14. That's about fair for a realistic semi-optimistic slash line for him this year. Last year he hit .259/.318/.427 in teh second half (101 wRC+ .320 wOBA) If he can do that, with his defense, that'll be a really valuable player. I'd like to see him make some strides at the big league level before I really try to pin down his peak, because with the talk projecting him as a Barry Larkin type talent, he obviously didn't get there in his first year, but for his age and experience level, he did enough (and made enough progress in season) for me to believe that's still within the realm of possibility. hard to compare ML numbers as Larkin didn't make the bigs until his age 22 season and wasn't a fixture until his age 24 season. Russell was 21 last year! Of course I'm being obtuse, but lets not forget how young he is. Larkinesque is a tall order. Looking at his BR page. those K%'s ... =P~ Also, I never noticed how fragile he was. lets hope thats not the case with Russel!
  15. Yeah, it seems like they're pretty content to start the season with what they have, which isn't a terrible strategy given how much young pitching costs in a trade and the fact that Hammel was good in the first half. Truly a "[expletive] pitchers" offseason by Theo if that's the case. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. The Cubs have all of the leverage in this situation -- if July rolls around and it's apparent that you need to make a move for another starter, you can absolutely do it with the pieces that you have. Arrieta-Lester-Lackey-Hammel-Hendricks is a pretty solid rotation. You'd love to have another frontline starter, but wait for the market to go down from the price that it's currently at. While I agree that Theo and Jed don't need to be overly concerned about the rotation, I don't think the bolded is necessarily true. You have the pieces NOW, but none of your tradeable pieces are bust-proof through July.
  16. Probably would have been partying with Bryant. Proving once again that doing anything other than exactly what they and Jed have done would have cost us Bryant.

Look at the laugh lines. Not that young.
  18. Tim, how much do you value strikeout rate for pitchers?
