  1. Can he not sign a 1-year deal with a guaranteed non-tender which would make him a free agent his 2nd year? absolutely. That's my point above. Its not 2 of big league money vs. 6 of league minimum/arb. It's two of about 3M then the big money vs. 1 of 3M then the big money.
  2. Spent way too much time looking at GIS of low clutch. Learned a great deal about using a low profile clutch when modifying a car with an oversized carburetor.
  3. I'm good for about one a year. This is the first since my cardinals fan swastika tattoo. lol.
  4. This article is basically: - The Cardinals threw at the Cubs and Joe got mad - Two baseball teams of different talent levels played baseball games for two years - The more talented baseball team won a significant amount more baseball games - The writer asserts that the more talented team is not actually better at playing baseball, but rather better at playing MIND baseball against one particular team I mostly got a validation that Matheny is dumb and Joe played him like a fiddle. It is possible to be a math/stats dummy and meatball and a very engaging writer at the same time. I enjoyed the article and like Miklasz in general. It is also possible for Matheny to be dumb, the Cardinals bad, Joe to a genius and the Cubs to be good all as separate facts. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
  5. My response [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  6. Woodruff is my last name. That's why I used to be MrWood. My brother's name is brandon. He is in the navy. Not on the brewers. I know, cool story.
  7. After they beat the Dodgers, please. So before the world series and after they eliminate their first round opponent the Cubs? lol, yeah. woops!
  8. After they beat the Dodgers, please.
  9. his career line inc. postseason is .229/.337/.482 so if you think he can hit .270 that's a monster bat in the middle of the order Absolutely. Like .900+ OPS. ;)
  10. 2
  11. He's not even a replacement level player, even in this disastrous year hes worth 1.2 wins (fWAR) -0.1 bWAR. and a below league average OPS (not positionally adjusted) at a position at the low end of the defensive spectrum. Paint it however you want. Its been bad. And again, I'm painting it as his floor and predicting a recovery. Please, I'm on your side! And my primary point was that OP didn't understand team control. I'm perfectly happy with him getting less playing time than Rizzo and more than Heyward.
  12. Nope Should have said, "he's playing at replacement level." bWAR of -0.1. I'd love you to engage my actual post rather than taking something out of context. I was painting it as his floor and suggesting he'd recover. The way you quoted it was a bit of a jerk move.
  13. He's coming over. Also, no team will have more than $3.5m to offer him as a signing bonus, so this really isn't about money. Um yeah. I'll believe it when I see it. It's always about money. Unless there is some loophole to be found, it will cost him hundreds of millions of dollars to come over 2 years earlier. It's not like KD or LeBron taking $5 million less. This dude would literally be paying $100 million for 2 years. I don't know this guy. But when you hear stuff like "its not about money", "you can live well on $3 million". I don't need to know this guy. I know people act in their own self interest. It's like predicting someone is going to walk off a cliff. You wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do it. Nobody would do it. Including this guy. Is he really getting more money by waiting though? I'm honestly asking. His salary in Japan this year is the equivalent of 2.7million USD. The highest salary over there in 2015 was 4.2. He's not making more than the 3.5 million to stay, why stay? He's NOT leaving 100million on the table. In fact he gets it a year EARLIER if he comes now. The chance of injury can't be that much different. Unless you think you might fail here, and we all know that all pro athletes are invincible and all powerful. But seriously, the only reason to stay in Japan is if you think you might fail in the US. He might, but he can't imagine that possibility. He's coming.
  14. Take it easy guys; this is somebody's disappointing progeny. Aren't we all? Honestly, with Contreras and Addi back, Happ mashing and Almora surging, I think its fair to ask about playing tim, OP's obvious ignorance of team control notwithstanding. If it was at the point Schwarbs was looking at a payday, it would be a fair question. But its not. He's a replacement level player making the minimum (I assume) right now. and that's worst case; this is his floor. I really believe Schwarber is adjusting to the league and will be just fine. Call it a sophomore slump if you want, but I think Schwarber has the make-up and work ethic to make the adjustments and as noted above is already seeing results. Do you play him every day? Maybe not, but there are plenty of opportunities for a ridiculously talented OPS machine that you can find regular paling time for him. If he's playing like this when he's due for free agency (what 2022?) then come back OP. Seriously. I'd rather not see you until 2022.
  15. I feel like the Cubs really need to take 2of 3 here. Looking at the schedules going forward, Cubs play Tampa and Milwaukee while Cards play the dregs of our division. a 4 game lead would be, um, better than a 2 game lead going into that.
  16. they aren't in st louis He's getting his prediction in early. Also, he's a time traveler.
  17. Yeah, Theo does only one type of pouring. should be poring anyway, right?
  18. Oh...yeah... well-i-mean besides that.
  19. Different sport but why don't you ask Ilya Kovalchuk about that? I'm pretty sure there was no CBA violation there, but the NHL had the right to void any contract that was deemed to be taking advantage of a loophole to circumvent the rules. I would assume the MLB has a similar clause but I could be wrong. That said, if there is anyone that is spending 20 hours of day pouring over the CBA looking for a loophole they can exploit, its Theo N. Epstein bolded should read: "...there is anyone who has entire rooms full of people spending 20 hours a day pouring over the CBA looking for a loophole..."
  20. I've somehow missed the origins of the "Joe is drunk" meme. Can anyone direct me?
  21. Have I been transported to Southside Baseball? What in the actual horsefeathers? and now for your enjoyment on Lackey day: actual horsefeathers.
  22. I rooted for them for at least a few years before that. But I must admit, I remember rooting for the White Sox in '83 so I felt that disqualified me from calling myself a true fan until '84. I was young and stupid. Don't feel bad, I was always a Cubs fan but I had a slight lean towards the White Sox in the early 90's. I worshiped Frank Thomas. By 98, I was a clear Cubs fan but still rooted for the Sox to do well until about 2003. Like you said young and stupid, just a different era I just lost so much respect for you.
