  1. I think we have to sign Harper next yr to keep Bryant beyond 2021. IF Harper doesn't join Bryant in Chicago, Bryant very likely joins Harper elsewhere.
  2. Stop it with the corny Cobb puns. I really feel like this was part of the plan from day one, to grow hitters and woo pitchers. Maddon and Hickey are a big part (all?) of that. Archer and Price may have been the intended targets, but I feel like getting a TB arm was part of what was in mind when he was hired. Hiring Hickey reinforces this in my “all things are connected” mind.
  3. love the dangled modifier.
  4. Seriously though, you're completely misreading. He didn't dismiss Bryzzo. It was a 4 sentence general assessment of the team in which he explicitly says they should be good again and maybe better than that last year. I think the rest of my post indicated clearly how seriously I'm taking this. I'm not, because it's not a serious article. He jokes that its too early to do, but does it anyway. meh.
  5. While all you say is true, I think it’s more that with 30-40M to spend, declaring the situation bleak is premature and trying to declare it anything at all at this point is an exercise in futility. When the hell did they declare the situation bleak? Are we just forgetting the part where they were ranked top 4 in the NL and said this: Anything but number 1 and the words “juggernaut,” “legendary,” “historically dongish,” and “everyone else should phone it in,” Is underselling these Cubs. Seriously though, he dismissed Bryzzo failed to mention Contreras, and suggested trading Russell, Baez or Happ (as though they were interchangeable) as the only way to guard against complete rotation meltdown. It was silly. But my broader point is that the entire exercise is silly at this point. No one has been able to make any moves yet. Anything but Astros #1, Dodgers #2, Cubs and Yanks 3&4, & playoff teams 5-8 right now is dismissive to this season.

  7. Shark doesn’t deserve to play for the good Cubs. /onlymostlyjoking
  8. I have no love for the Dodgers, but I still have a little for the team that employed Roy Oswalt. Also, I have this weird NL loyalty/ "if the NL wins, it legitimizes my NL team." thing going on.
  9. Cardinals 2011-2014 so 4 years. F’n Cardinals. It had to be. Thanks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_franchise_postseason_streaks
  10. Tried to make a joke about getting "Dex" from the Cardinals cheap because racist St. Louis. Autocorrect changed "Dex." There are some things you don't want to get for cheap in St. Louis.
  11. it gets even better in 2019 when you add harper to the mix. Don't forget fixed Schwarber or Heyward.
  12. Schwarber's value has never been higher. Baez's peaked over the last offseason, but is still higher than it should be. Not advocating either, but trading Schwarber right now would be stupid. He was untouchable a season ago. He's now a non-commodity. your valuation disclaimer's are all over the place Haha. The first sentence should be, "Schwarber's value has never been lower." I'm trying to say its an awful time to trade him, and not a great time to trade either, even if one were inclined to do so. Which I'm not.
  13. that's tony larussa Joe just hasn't been busted. That's why he only drives RV's. "Am I driving, officer, or am I at home? You can see the confusion, I'm sure."
  14. I'd bring him back at the right price. He will receive 25 offers better than my right price, however. So yeah, any realistic scenario where he's back on the Cubs is likely very bad for my favorite team.
  15. well deserved. thread title is vicious.
  16. lock, ban, erase hard drive.
  17. Woah, since when are you back?!
  18. He retired in 2011, spent 4 seasons as an analyst and a full year as bench coach on a good team. And apparently worked as the PR's GM in the WBC, for whatever that is worth. Is this a line from West Side Story? I watched West Side Story Last night. I'm sure this is more than frequency illusion. The whole world is deeply connected. and West Side story is the hub.
  19. Good gracious. Setting aside the terribly unfocused narrative here, he mentions trading 1) Russell at all and 2) Baez OR Russell as if the two were interchangeable, almost ancillary parts of this team. Cameron beings the quality of the Fangraphs staff down a huge amount on his own He was on with Bernstein and Goff the other day and was saying innumerable dumb things, the worst of which was him talking about recency bias when discussing using Duensing instead of Wilson i the playoffs. Idiot. Give him a break. Its difficult to distinguish between "recency bias" and "obviously dead."
  20. I'll be watching the 2016 World Series instead.
  21. That'd be effing stupid. I'd prefer we not trade a guy with a damn near historic glove that can hit 25-30 HR. Schwarber seems to be the obvious trade bait. He needs to go be a DH somewhere. Schwarber's value has never been higher. Baez's peaked over the last offseason, but is still higher than it should be. Not advocating either, but trading Schwarber right now would be stupid. He was untouchable a season ago. He's now a non-commodity.
  22. 2-Joe Maddon 2017 NLCS Yep, multiple people said on Twitter last night that Joe is now the first person (manager or otherwise) to get tossed twice in a playoff series. I refuse to believe Lou never accomplished this.
  23. It feels like '07, '08. For the first time in 2-and-a-half years, I expect bad thing with the Cubs at the plate. End this pain. Tonight the juggernaut returns!
