  1. and start sitting lee and ramirez on a regular basis, no need to risk them for next year either. hell, add prior to that list as well. zambrano too. those are the only 5 guys on this team i care to see next year. and i'm not opposed to trading wood, lee, ramirez for the right deal. Definitely use Lee as trade bait. He'll be at his highest value this offseason, and with a weak free agent clas....
  2. I've officially thrown in the towel on the season. It's just too gruesome to watch it go on.
  3. I have a "let there be light" t-shirt from 8-8-88. That game was all I could think about yesterday. BTW the shirt is a "Youth Small"...I was 11. Ah for the days of innocence in which I didn't realize how bad the Cubs were...sigh
  4. THat's right but he did well in spite of that fact. I'm not talking about the obscene power or walks. In his prime, sammy hit for average as well. Patterson with a line of .300/.350/.500, 30hrs, 100rbi would be alright with me.
  5. Whatever many of us think about Sosa now, there is no doubt that he was one of the best 1998-2003. This scouting report could be on Corey Patterson 2005. Maybe he's done til september and maybe that's good. In 1992 Sosa only had 250 or so AB, and put up his first solid year in 1993. THere's still hope for Patterson, and he's still destined to be a #3 hitter. Not that he'll be another Sosa, but that he's still young, his strike zone judgement is poor, he's been misused, and there's still overwhelming hope.
  6. I suspect the ONLY position Nomar moves to is 3rd base, not SS. We saw what happen to Jose Reyes, and Kaz Matsui when both tried to play 2nd---after being consider natural SS---THEY failed measuably. Now while Ryes hasn't exactly been an All Star this yr, he has been more comfortable. So again, I highly doubt Nomar will be playing 2B for any team in 06. It will be either SS or 3B. Add to that his poential lack of mobility/range, and I think you're right on.
  7. You're right. If they only could've landed Beltran. He has 59.
  8. I dunno, there sure was a lot of angst when Choi was traded for Lee. And much of that was due to age/salary concerns. But you are right, Choi performed worse than expected, and Lee has obviously gone above and beyond anyone's expectations. Should have been more specific. My point was that noone is calling to play these guys over guys who are tearing it up, ala Lee's current numbers. We're asking that the kids play over the marginal guys, see also: Neifi.
  9. now we're on to something. These guys are marginal players. Why not let marginal prospects with upside start over them. No one would be asking to play Choi ahead of Lee, but it was stinking Karros!
  10. This is a good sign. I liked remmy, but it's good to see that the organization can cut bait. In fact, that's probably the fishing analogy that allowed Baker to come to terms with this decision.
  11. Not only is neither OF lineup is going to happen, gut feeling has it tha Jose Macias is prolly going to start and hit leadoff. My thoughts as well. H-worth, Macias, Burnitz left to right.
  12. But by the same token, in this era most HOF caliber players will ot remain for an entire carreer in Tor, KC, Florida and Tampa. If they are that good, they'll go to a money team.
  13. Luis Gonzalez looks like one of the opponents from Mike Tysons punch out.
  14. I've got a baaad feeling about this inning.
  15. He's got two more in him. Get him outta there Prior at 99 pitches is a far better option than anything we have in the bullpen for the 8th. He's pitched over 110 already in a game since he's been back, and it's not too hot out today, he'll be fine. Give us one more Mark and turn it over to Dempster! Maybe, but a pinch hitter would have been valuable right there.
  16. He's got two more in him. Get him outta there
  17. Nice comments on Cruz, though of course non-commital.
  18. Its the softly part that bothers me most
  19. And JHJ replies with a two pitch AB. Didn't he get the memo?
  20. sore quad and ofer yesterday. Might have asked for a day off.
  21. I like Dusty using Deptster in the tie game here. Not much to give credit for, but that's forward thinking.
  22. that's what the cubs thought they were doing when they signed remlinger and hawkins. neither of those signings worked out very well. relievers' (especially 7th-8th inning guys) performance just vary too much from year to year for anybody to be a sure thing. i'm not saying the cubs shouldn't ever sign a guy like that again, but there's a decent chance that it will end up backfiring. Very true. But if Hendry has to give up money/prospects to get a proven reliever we sure could use another one this year and beyond. That's the thing. There's no such thing as a proven (which would imply reliable and sure) reliever. Releif pitchers are a crap-shoot.
  23. I believe it is just for the rest of the season so that he can help the club anyway he can. He will have surgery after the season to clean out his shoulder and then be ready to return to the rotation next year. Yuck, Surgery. I didnt hear that. *cry* Poor kerry. Give him a bat. Or there's always the used car business.
