  1. NOt working for me either, but it was literally 5 minutes ago...and to be clear the headline doesn't say it happened but that its likely.
  2. Care to elaborate? Yes, people on this board need to take the blue tinted sunglasses off and realize this deal is a steal for us. We getting one of the best leadoff men in baseball, an all-star and another great club house guy for pretty much nothing. You guys are blowing your loads over the 2 pitching prospects that have showed us NOTHING. Ok, stop referring to him as a leadoff man already. There is absolutely no such thing. Roberts plays 2nd base, not some artificial lineup position with imaginary responsibilities. While I agree that I'd rather have the better second baseman than the better "leadoff hitter", leadoff is not artificial. Stolen bases are overrated but OBP in the number one slot is not. Getting Roberts extra 40 points of OBP over Soriano in the one slot, and Sorianos extra 140 points of slugging (although you lose 40 points of OBP) lower in the order. My only problem is why not just put Derosa in the leadoff slot and hang onto the prospects?
  3. A statement from himself (not his lawyer) the day the Mitchell report came out would have been a good start instead we get a press release from his agent several days later. Sometimes people listen to bad advice. ie Ted Kennedy and his whole career So you're saying Clemens drove under the influence of steroids?
  4. If there's anywhere its appropriate its in a fairly meatless thread about the man himself.
  5. pan-ache?? Is that where you hurt everywhere at once? See also: Mark Prior.
  6. nope that's definitely Alyssa Milano.
  7. which prior understood, thus its a simple call for prior
  8. Or was just smart enough to not use a personal check. And for baseball players, the probably qualifies as genius. remember that story of him having an insane amount of cash stolen...yeah
  9. Murton really has value. I wish he would play here, but I get why they are dealing him. He'll likely be part of the package that lands Hendry Brian Roberts. I'd prefer him and Gallagher go toward landing us Blanton, and Pie and Hill and EPatt land us Roberts and Bedard, and Dempster and Marshall and Derosa land us Burnett. (Just listing some of the rumors in this thread!) Imagine, if you can... Zambrano Bedard Burnett Lilly Blanton  =D> \:D/ :pig:   That could theoretically work. Yeah, it could, though it would empty the farm, and would still leave us short two OF. (A CF and a 4th OF) But, heck, with that rotation, an NL Pennant would seem to be virtually assured. Virtually assured? How about this rotation: Prior Wood Maddux Zambrano Clement What are you talking about? Alluding to the 2004 rotation that was popularly thought good enough to win a pennant by itself. Can't we just forget that season ever happened? what season?
  10. throws with the wrong hand. We need *more* lefty bats and *less* lefty arms.
  11. exactly. cuz he was only 4 1/2
  12. Heh... I'm not all that enamored w/ Fuku either. I have the feeling he'll be a tad underwhelming...but then that means he'd fit right in w/ our Cubs Yeah we should be so saddened to have Raul Ibanez in our outfield. I mean, after all he has been a better hitter than $136m man, Alfonso Soriano, three of the last four seasons. Of course you're right to point that out. Guess I just don't feel as hyped over Fuku as others. good lord, we don't tell him when he's right, it just encourages him.
  13. He had surgery in August to remove bone fragments from his right elbow. He's expected to be ready and able come the spring. I know that, but the news has nothing to do with his elbow
  14. how has all the love for Theriot turned so quickly to venom? http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40194&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=the+riot
  15. in the article, gibbons suggests that his violation was HGH. I thought there was no testing method for HGH... Or is this suspension based solely on the fact that he bought it?
  16. Exactly my point. These guys are getting paid to play everyday and they pretty much want to be in there everyday. There are days off built into the schedule. Yes, occasionally there are long stretches of the season where you might want to rest a couple of the starters. In that case, take DeRosa out of the SS spot and move him around a little bit and give those players the necessary rest. Lee won't be suspended and hopefully Soriano is over his leg injury. Typically, Soriano averages over 150 games a season, as does Lee. And if Lee does actually take a day off, are people honestly going to tell me that DeRosa will start at 1b over Daryle Ward? I just don't see where DeRosa gets enough at bats filling this made up "super sub" position. Lee won't be suspended, and Soriano should be over his leg injury. But something else will happen. Pie will tear his ACL ala C-Pat, Ramirez will miss significant time with a worsening back injury, Lee will break his other wrist, derosa will lose his knee ala Billy Meuller, Fukudome will cuzz out an ump in Japanese and be suspended whatever. There's nothing wrong with having too many good players, and a guy like derosa allows you to have that one extra guy who hits well with fewer AB's and does well with lots of at bats. Sign a new 2B, SS, and RF for all I care...just get good players. That said, I agree SS should be the priority.
  17. does this mean anything?
  18. no relation
  19. I'm not exactly sure which thread you think this would fit well in. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=45076  Nicely done. Wow, I never venture into the social forum, but that was, well, awesome.
  20. Tampa Berets
  21. not finished. They're at about 60% of max height It's amazing how fast that building is going up. I see this is going to be quite the circus with the sale of the team. It'd be great if the Tribune got to it already. new stadium on top of the tower? Someone on the 1st page of this thread already beat you to that joke. yeah I saw that too late
