  1. I am scorching the earth of this thread and leaving no survivors if they lose tonight. You don't even want to know what I have planned when they lose the series.
  2. In less than eight days, it ends in hugs or bloodshed.
  3. Meh, whatever....people can think of Hawks fans however they want to. If the Hawks win 2 more games they can think of us as fans of the Stanley Cup champs. If they lose three more, they get to be thought of as chokers.
  4. Might as well convince yourselves he's not coming, because it looks to me like all the "He's going to Chicago" talk was just to drum up another city on his tour.
  5. Not a chance. Win *two* and we shut up.
  6. You just feel that way because you like to freak out after anything remotely negative happens to any of your teams. The non-erik's of the world feel overreacting is far more annoying than complaining about overreacting. < The "add foe" button is over there somewhere, I think. Otherwise, we post how we post.
  7. Also, I know it's our freaking style, but I am so beyond sick and tired of letting them skate into our zone. Just once in awhile, for funsies, try standing them up at the blue line and forcing them to dump and chase like we do.
  8. It's not, imo. It's the problems with the Philadelphia matchup. Philly has a ton of fast, aggressive forwards who can put pressure on our defense, because they know that Pronger is back there to clean up behind them. Almost all of our bad games this season have come when we don't handle the forecheck well. Weren't you posting after games 1 and 2 that you were shocked how slow Philly was? Maybe that was someone else. After game 1, I think. I've changed my mind.
  9. I was waiting for this argument. And I admit...I haven't been in this thread for most of the season...fine. But I'd be defending the Bears or Cubs (ok...maybe not the Cubs as vigorously) from this as well. I understand it's the nature of a sports message board for there to be an excess of negativity. I get that. And it doesn't really matter all that much to me, because I'm not really down on the Hawks at all right now. In fact I'm pretty damn confident. I just hate to see you guys...guys that have followed the Hawks all season (and more!) so down about a team that is up 2-1 in the freaking Stanley Cup Finals. Enjoy this...as good as this team should be in the future, it may not be something we get to see again soon. And I feel like you guys aren't really enjoying it, as much as you're waiting for the other shoe to drop. You are absolutely right. But you aren't going to talk me out of this. You are, however, helping me kill time until the game tonight, which I appreciate. Plus my job is pretty worthless and boring this time of year.
  10. I suggest we don't use "password" as the password for the front page.
  11. The Blackhawks have the longest championship drought in their league, have lost five straight Final appearances, and are one of only two teams to blow the series after going up 2-0 at home. They also had a long period of being terrible during the middle part of the century due to ridiculous ownership. The Blackhawks *are* the Cubs of the NHL. Another good one: ESPN did a big statistical spread before the Bears-Colts SB, outlining the odds of each team winning in different scenarios based on advanced statistical analysis. One of the only scenarios that had a Bears likely victory was if Devin Hester returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
  12. One of the little details that came out of this story I found most shocking was Fay Vincent throwing out hundreds of no-hitters in the record book. Anyone have information on how or why this happened without backlash? They standardized the rule on what counts as an "official" no-hitter. Guys were getting credit for no-hitters in 5-inning, rain-shortened games and games where they gave up hits in extra innings. Also, the stupid game where Babe Ruth walked a guy, got thrown out for arguing the call, and his replacement came in and got 26 straight outs after a caught stealing. That guy used to get credit for a "perfect game." The one thing I hate about the new rules that you can't get credit for a no-hitter if you lose. So if you lose 1-0 on a hitless run, you don't get your no-hitter.
  13. I'm an optimistic fan until it gets to championship-time. I was one of the only ones here who insisted that the March slump meant nothing about our playoff chances. Cuz we were sure to lose in the playoffs no matter what!!! It's worse than that. We were sure to lose in the most painful way possible. What was the worst way for the 2003 Cubs to lose, with no real expectations going into the playoffs and a fan base that would be happy to get to the World Series for the first time in most of our lifetimes, even if we lost it? Check. What was the way for the 2007 Cubs to lose? Face a team the statheads tell us we should be heavy favorites against (as heavy as baseball favorites can be) and get swept. What was the worst way for the 2008 Cubs to lose? Tell ourselves that as long as we don't get swept again, at least we're better off than last year. Oops. 2-0 lead in the SCF and a 3-2 lead in the third period of the third game. That's a pretty lofty cliff to fall off of, and just because the freefall is just beginning doesn't mean I don't know how much the splat at the bottom will suck. Plus, the two key players that we fell in love with (and I named my kid after) are being no-shows and get to have the "choker" label applied to them.

  15. It's the loss-averse side of human nature. Humans feel the pain of utility lost much more heavily than the joy of utility gained, and we act accordingly. Being up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals as a heavy favorite and then losing it would suck sweaty goat balls, so many of us fans are reacting accordingly.
  16. I intend on being stuck on this step for a long, long time.
  17. i dont understand your posts. why are we nuts? because we're being unbiased in our assessment of the series so far. the flyers have played us evenly for 3 straight games and are giving us all sorts of problems. i'm not sure how that's not a concern to you. I'm being a huge whining crybaby about it. Even if the two teams are dead even, then being up 2-1 gives us a significantly higher chance of winning the series just because we only have to win 2 coinflips out of 4. Sure, I'm absolutely horrified at the third period of the last game, when it was played almost entirely in the Chicago end of the ice, but really I'd be crying like this no matter what. Doing the math, I've gone through 62 major sports seasons with my favorite teams, and all 62 ended with someone else's fans celebrating. I'm convinced this one will too because I'm a lame emo sports fan.
  18. Then again, we're probably parsing it way too finely. Two teams of good hockey players are going to skate around tonight and throw the puck toward the net 50-60 times each. 0-5 times each, they'll get a lucky bounce or a perfect placement and it'll go in. Whoever gets the most of those wins. The goals last game included: Sopel blasting it through three players and just happening to hit the perfect spot, imo the equivalent of me stepping onto a basketball court and throwing up a halfcourt shot. Keith blasting it from the point, hitting a Flyers' stick and getting a perfect deflection into the net. The Flyers getting a rolling, twisting puck to squeak a fraction of an inch across the line. The Flyers throwing a puck at the net, having it hit a Blackhawks defenseman's skate and redirect onto Niemi with no chance to react and control the rebound A Flyers player sprawling on the ice and sliding the puck blindly behind him, only to have it dodge about six Blackhawks' skates and sticks and go straight to a teammate.
  19. It's not, imo. It's the problems with the Philadelphia matchup. Almost all of our bad games this season have come when we don't handle the forecheck well.
  20. Philadelphia didn't play particularly well in Game 1 at the very least. The fact that they've played crappy three games in a row could have just a tiny little bit to do with the opponent forcing them to play crappy.
  21. Honestly, I don't know any Philly fans who were worried. On the general hockey forums I hang out on, they were maddeningly confident even when down 0-2 in the series.
  22. There are two major matchup problems I've seen in the first three games 1) The Flyers have such confidence in their defense that they are forechecking harder than any team has ever, ever dared to forecheck the Hawks. 2) They roll three virtually identical lines in terms of quality, so we can't play our matchup games that we do so well.
  23. Why do we know Chicago is better? I sure haven't seen it on the ice. When the game is on the line, at the very least the last two games, Philadelphia has completely and utterly dominated.
  24. Yes please. I'm bored with this team. Tear it up.
