  1. You gotta be [expletive] me? How has no one thought of this/mentioned this before? We talked about the bonus cushion before. Where did we hear $1.3 million from? http://www.nhlscap.com/Exhibit5.htm
  2. $1.3 million? I was under the impression that it couldn't be more than $250k.
  3. hey, kane said he'd bring the cup to buffalo for a day. I'm really hoping Toews takes it back to the University of North Dakota for a day. The last UND guy to win did. If not, he'll take it to his hometown of Winnipeg and that's a nine-hour drive.
  4. My hat/puck/shirt/video combo plus an extra shirt for Mrs. Kyle is on the way. Woo!
  5. I find it funny how willing so many are to blame Leighton, considering he had about the 2nd best save percentage and goals against average in the playoffs, and it could be argued quite easily that he outplayed Niemi. The difference was Chicago is better. They have more goal scorers and can stand toe to toe defensively. Without that amazing team in front of him, Niemi's effort, especially in the finals, would have looked disappointing. He was only considered a Conn Smythe candidate because he was the winning goalie. If Leighton had an ordinary first period, that game would have been one long Chicago coronation party as they defended a four-goal lead.
  6. I really, really don't want to be that guy who complains about bandwagon fans, but good lord I can't believe how many facebook friends I have who suddenly love the Blackhawks.
  7. Let's let this sink in. The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup. The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup with a dominating 16-6 record in the playoffs after statheads said they were the best team in the NHL all year, without once facing an elimination game. The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup with almost entirely homegrown talent as the core. The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in an epic, high-scoring 6-game final in which all but one of the games were decided by one goal (excluding ENers) and the sixth was decided by two goals. The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup with the 15th overtime sudden-death Cup winner in history, scored by the face of the franchise. Does it get better than this? I can't imagine how.
  8. http://puckthemedia.wordpress.com/2010/06/10/breaking-game-6-likely-highest-rated-nhl-overnight-in-35-years/
  9. Just watched the highlights. I had just thankfully forgotten about Keith's turnover to start OT. That could have easily been the worst turnover in team history.
  10. WoOoOoOoOoOoOOOooOOooOOoOOOOoO!!!!!!
  11. I don't blame Philly fans one bit if they were booing Toews or anyone else. I would in their shoes without hesitation. But I suspect they were booing Bettman.
  12. I'm starting to warm up to the moment of confusion that ruined the play-by-play calls. It kind of reminds me of the Stanford band play, which is one of the greatest play-by-play calls of all time to listen to.
  13. Jonathan Toews. 2005-06 NCAA Champion U20 World Juniors Gold Medal 2006-07 U20 World Juniors Gold Medal World Championship Gold Medal 2009-10 NHL Stanley Cup Champion NHL Stanley Cup MVP "Conn Smythe Trophy" Olympic All-Star Team Olympic Best Forward Olympic Gold Medal The guy just wins. People who complain about his 3 points in 6 games in the Final, well, they are right because he seriously needed to bury some of those chances. But they also miss the point. He wins faceoffs. He blocks shots. He controls the puck along the boards. He just plain keeps the flow of the game in your favor. I don't believe in "momentum" that much, but I do know that there is a flow to a hockey game. When you control the puck in the other team's zone, it can set you up for the next five minutes. When they have to clear the puck, you get to gather it up in the neutral zone and start over. If they finally do get control in the neutral zone, they probably have to dump and go for a change by that point, meaning you get to go right back at them. When Toews is on the ice, the Blackhawks control the game. To borrow from the Avs announcer: This is the kind of talent that brings a franchise back from dead.
  14. I e-mailed the Philadelphia travel board to ask them what Chicago, Montreal, Boston and New Jersey have in common. I never did find out?
  15. Man, I remember on the Blackhawks.com boards a few years ago how there was such a huge debate over Kane vs. James van Riemsdyk vs. Kyle Turris. Hahahahahahaha.
  16. Anyone mention yet that Ladd admitted after the game that he was playing with a fractured shoulder?
  17. Toews had a 60.3% faceoff win percentage in the playoffs, and was +23 on takeaways/giveaways. The man does so much that doesn't show up in his point total. Stanley Cup, Gold Medal, Conn Smythe, Outstanding Forward at the Olympics. What a year.
  18. One thing that's always fascinated me about hockey is that the shooter always knows, even when he shot through a ton of traffic and can't see the net and no one else knows.
  19. People who want to celebrate with everyone else probably shouldn't act like huge babies leading up to the final games. And they *definitely* shouldn't respond with "ban me or deal with it" when confronted with that behavior. Anyways, wooo!!!!! Never a doubt.
  20. Stanley Cup series prices: Flyers +160 Blackhawks -200 A long way from when you could get Philadelphia for +750, but the money is still flowing toward Chicago.
  21. 95% Flyers in 6 4.5% Flyers in 7 0.5% Blackhawks
  22. Flyers and Blackhawks have played five games this season. All five have been won by the home team, and the game-winning goals have come one late in the second period, three in the third period and one in overtime.
  23. Toews did get robbed in the first by a save that a goalie like Leighton has no business making.
  24. For Game 5, the key just has to be to stop pooping your pants in the face of the forecheck and a physical game. Turnovers and bad penalties are the problems, but they are huge problems and not easy to solve. If the Blackhawks stay out of the box and can clear their own zone consistently, they should look pretty good. But they haven't come close to proving they can do that.
