  1. It'd be awesome if they started the negotiations asking for Starlin Castro and ended up settling for like Flaherty or something. Robert California was apparently modeled after Ricketts.
  2. What of compensation to the Red Sox over their loss? *Before* he signs. That's the key.
  3. I vote we wait and see who the Red Sox want, then just before he signs the deal we double whatever they are paying him.
  4. He severely underestimates the ability of the Chicago media to hold a grudge.
  5. I'm betting it was some kind of random crawlbot invasion.
  6. I wouldn't hate it if we just let Quade ride out the contract, unless Epstein has someone he really wants that will only be available this offseason.
  7. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Q6TZq05jaX8/TK-cTQGsC-I/AAAAAAAAA5w/jmVKWM0XqvY/s1600/tom-ricketts.jpg Tom. [expletive]. Ricketts.
  8. The die is cast on that. Whoever they gave up, they gave up, and I'm not going to let some sort of objective assessment ruin how much fun this is.
  9. Two main reasons for the existence and rationality of that belief: Prince's weight vs Pujols' excellent physical fitness and Pujols being a once in a lifetime, transcendent talent. I just trust the Cubs front office to evaluate carefully and decide which, if either, they want. Man, that's fun to say.
  10. They will predict that this being a done deal means that the Red Sox have humongous leverage on the Cubs and will begin to extract major talent.
  11. Such lame, generic news. "Progress" could mean "Okay, we agree on the players, but who pays for Epstein's ride to the airport." Or it could mean "Okay, I don't wish you would die in a fire. A quiet, painless death would be okay."
  12. Uh-oh. Larry Lucchino is now asking for option rights on your daughters. He's just starting high.
  13. [expletive] you. Kap promised.
  14. [expletive]. It's over. Who else can we get?
  15. Why not? See above. Let's assume for a moment that there's even a 1% chance that Epstein to the Cubs falls apart. Hoyer's not going to quit his job in San Diego if there's a chance he has to work with someone other than his superbestbuddy. The Cubs aren't going to hire a new GM if there's even a tiny chance they have to find a new President (who will presumably want some sort of say on the GM front). Seems like baseless speculation by you. Well, I'm just filling in the blanks if we assume what Levine said was true. That's a huge assumption at this point. I'm inclined to assume the opposite at this point.
  16. We'll have Randy Bush and Crane Kenney. I hope Crane Kenney signs Pujols and takes all the credit.

  18. That makes no sense to me. Hoyer is Epstein's guy. He wants to work with Epstein. He's not going to quit his job in SD while there is even a tiny bit of doubt that Epstein is coming, and the Cubs can't really hire a GM if there's even a tiny chance that they may have to look for a new president of baseball ops.
  19. Levine throwing all kinds of water on this. Also said Cubs can't really hire Hoyer without Epstein in place.
