  1. No. I'm saying that I filled the scenario that was requested, and that shouldn't be taken as an implication that I think it was the best possible scenario.
  2. The request was for a simple, realistic scenario that put the team in contention last year. Not for a scenario that guaranteed we'd be better off than we were.
  3. Dave Cameron is my hero right now for this article: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/why-im-not-a-fan-of-losing-on-purpose/
  4. Given the aging curve of SS's, I'm not entirely convinced having him signed for 7-8 more seasons is actually that great as opposed to just having 4-5 more years of team control. Even if you wanted to take out the defense and baserunning numbers entirely, Heyward and Harper came in ahead of Castro. And of course, I missed Stanton himself because I forgot to turn off the "qualified" filter. If someone wanted to say Castro was one of the top 15-20 assets in all of baseball, I'd be right on board. But top 4-5 is pushing it two steps too far. Stanton is just on a whole other level from Castro.
  5. So is starlin Castro There were five position players 23 and under who posted better fWARs than Castro this season. I really don't see how you can seriously claim he's one of the top 4-5 most valuable assets in all of MLB. How many of them played shortstop? WAR is adjusted for position.

  7. Not my first choice, but I wanted to keep things simple. For even better results, trade Brett Jackson and Trey McNutt for Chase Headley, as we reportedly refused to do.
  8. Looking at their organization, Rizzo makes more sense. They seem pretty set at SS, but Rizzo solving 1b for the next six years would be a nice piece for them. Of course, any Stanton trade involves multiple key pieces, so it may not be an either/or.
  9. Doubt anything happens, but it's fun to speculate. I'd have to imagine a deal for Stanton has to include Baez. I'd be okay with that. It has to include Rizzo, I think, and then a whole lot more.
  10. Neither do all cricket games. A five-day Test match is the equivalent of a playoff series or something.
  11. The whole concept of the thread is silly. March 2010 Baseball Prospectus Organizational Rankings (2009 record): 8. Cubs (83-78) 9. Reds (78-84) 21. Pirates (62-99) 25. Brewers (80-82) 28. Astros (74-88) 30. Cardinals (91-71) Any resemblance between the information we have now and the actual status of the teams after the 2015 season is almost a coincidence.
  12. Re-sign Ramirez Sign a couple of useful veteran relief pitchers to get the bullpen to average Put the best players on the roster from day one (see ya, Clevenger, Mather, Volstad). That'll get you to.500 right there, and you can still do the Rizzo trade and the Marshall trade and sign Soler and draft Almora.
  13. "Extremely little" until it's time to drool over Castro, Baez, etc. And what else? One great ML asset and one in the low minors. Oh, and Shark. Other than that, it was a wasteland. Love the "etc.", as if there was anything else of note. He left something, but it was pretty [expletive] far from a foundation. And Garza. And Barney. And the trade bait that got Rizzo, Wood, Torreyes, Vizcaino and Lout. And that 4-win LFer we put out there. And the entire low minors draft class that owned the NWL lists. But other than a middle infield, a middle-of-the-order bat, three-fifths of a rotation, a bunch of trade bait and a wave of prospects, there was a completely blank slate for St. Theo to work his magic. On the Fangraphs top 15, our current regime inherited 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 15. And it didn't exactly take a wizard to turn the top two draft picks into top-15 organizational guys. It speaks more of our current regime that nearly every worthwhile major leaguer is a legacy.
  14. "Extremely little" until it's time to drool over Castro, Baez, etc.
  15. I'm curious as to why it took a month for MLB pitchers to figure out not to throw fastballs to the AAAA hitter. I'm not saying the "they got tape on him" isn't the real explanation, but I need a little more than just "the timing matches up" before I fully believe it.
  16. Only Rule 5 potential guy I've seen so far that even remotely catches my eye is Josh Fields: http://www.soxprospects.com/players/fields-josh.htm
  17. Joe Girardi's phone just rang and he answered it. He didn't have any plans this weekend.
  18. This article says he was a heavy signability pick at No. 6 overall and outlines the deal where he ended up not signing with Arizona: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-louxdiamondbacks080310 Here's his Lone Star Ball scouting report from February: http://www.lonestarball.com/2012/2/9/2786354/barret-loux-scouting-report He threw ~130 innings this year before going on the DL with "fatigue." Peripherals were not above-average across the board but nothing eyepopping. His ceiling is considered pretty ordinary. But as always in our system, AA or AAA starting pitchers who are actually prospects are a nice plus.
  19. OK, the catch is that his arm is barely attached to his body.
  20. This is just all the more reason we shouldn't spend any money until 2019. Almora and Baez will be, what, 26 then? Better wait a year or two until they are truly in their primes.
  21. AI trade decline clearly turned off.
  22. Well, then I want to wish everyone a Happy DFA And People Overreacting To Mediocre Prospects Being Left Vulnerable To Rule 5 Day tomorrow.
