  1. Not going to lie, I'm considering throwing this in my sig. The bullpen is my barometer this offseason. It's not *that* hard to fill a rotation with flippable, useful guys, it's a buyer's market in CF and there's not really much out there for 3b. The bullpen is the dividing line between making a real effort in 2013 and not. This is a good start.
  2. I'm a little surprised at how that worked. I thought the renewal deadline was in like January or something.
  3. I don't recall the Cardinals being big overslot/IFA spenders. I think that really overstates the usefulness of overslotting for a team like the Red Sox. Yes, they overslotted Rizzo, but they still found Anthony Rizzo in the fifth round. Just like at PSD, this stuff should probably get its own thread, because we're way off of offseason rumor discussion now.
  4. OK, now I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not.
  5. 2009, 10, and 11 say hi. What does drafting really poorly in the mid-2000s and not having enough young, impact players graduate have to do with free agent prices?
  6. Really? I know you're not this simple minded, so why are you doing this? It's part of the discussion. There's an attempt by people of an opinion that I disagree with to frame the conversation in certain terms. I'm questioning the use of those terms.
  7. If it makes you good, how can it be an overpay?
  8. Rather have Jurrjens for nothing than Porcello for anything breathing. I'd rather have Ian Stewart back for 1/$10 million than Jurrjens.
  9. I kind of don't hate Sweeney as a backup outfielder type. But otherwise, that's a bad list.
  10. Promising to address the bullpen, saying that there's no need to worry about FA OFers blocking prospects. We're back to the part where the front office says all the right things. Optimism rising?
  11. Side note: I'd really like to see the media refer to it as "Team X will not tender Player Y a contract" instead of using non-tender as an active verb.
  12. It's a lot to assume that these prospects will never struggle on the way up and that the front office will reverse course on taking prospects slowly.
  13. The twisted part of me that is fascinated by terrible things would find that very amusing.
  14. Maybe they've got a line on cheaper deals for both? It's not like Ian Stewart couldn't be re-signed for an NRI if they really wanted him back.
  15. I don't like Vizcaino's future as a SP. I like his future as a RP a lot, though, so I don't think that matters much. Baez/Almora/Soler/Vizcaino for me, though I could easily be persuaded to flop the last two. I'd say there's a 25% chance that this time next year Almora is No. 1, and there's a 25% chance that Baez is top-5 in all of baseball.
  16. Or that they just don't care. lazy, even for you You have no idea the depths of my potential for laziness.
  17. Baez. Next?
  18. Prelude to moving Castro off SS? Probably not, but maybe?
  19. It's been obvious for awhile now we had no interest, but I was still hoping we were just being super stealthy or something. At least we still have our second-round pick!
  20. It's pretty darn foolish. Bowden doesn't have the stuff to stick as a starter, and Cabrera's only proven he can't start every other single time he's started. What exactly is at stake that it makes attempting to develop a player further foolish and/or desperate? You lose their chance to be pretty good relievers in 2013.
