  2. Every time someone gives up on a baseball season in early December, God punches a newborn kitten right in the face. Please stop.
  3. Wants someone to go to 3 years. I'm fine with it, if we do. Obvious statement is obvious, but it would all depend on the AAV for me. I have no idea what this guy is going to get. I would guess something like 2/13. 5-7 million seems to be the rate for good relievers.
  4. Wants someone to go to 3 years. I'm fine with it, if we do. I won't kick a dog if we do, but that does seem like a long time for a guy his age and brief success.
  5. That's the first time I've seen an article reference that, I think. It's true, but it seems like organizational reputations have some inertia and it takes some time for them to catch up to reality.
  6. I'd turn down 2/5 if I were him, too. He'd stand a decent chance of making more over the two years with this deal, especially since it includes some performance bonuses.
  7. Now that I think about it, DeJesus really needs a RH platoon partner, too, and Sappelt can't be the partner for both guys. We still probably need one more outfielder or guy who can play the outfield occasionally.
  8. For some reason, I trust guys who can hit just righties more than guys who can hit just lefties. Probably because they get more regular at-bats.
  9. I don't see why you have to add Fujikawa. Rookie eligibility or not, he's not a prospect.
  10. We've heard about the rumored young players for young players type deals being discussed, but I would think something would have happened on that front already. I'm guessing Bourn isn't an option anymore. 3B has nobody left to spend money on. I don't see any big moves coming, unless they can pull off another Rizzo/Cashner type trade. I wonder if we might be spending the money on one more pitcher. As it is right now, filling out the roster with some million-dollar veterans *might* get us to $90 million.
  11. Soriano/DeJesus/Schierholtz (Sappelt/Campana) [Jackson] ???/Castro/Barney/Rizzo (Valbuena/????) Castillo (Navarro) [Clevenger] Garza/Samardzija/Baker/Feldman/Wood [Vizcaino] Marmol/Fujikawa/Camp/Russell/Iowa Conga Line. We might be getting close to done, right?
  12. lol at wiki "Schierholtz is known for his particularly strong and accurate throwing arm, being better known for defensive rather than offensive skills." I guess it's growing on me. If he can be solid defensively and the 3-year splits are accurate. I do love platoons...
  13. My initial reaction is pretty meh if this is supposed to be the primary part of the RF platoon. Defensive metrics don't seem to like him much. I guess it really matters if you think his last two years' vs.R splits (solid) are more important than his career totals (not that great).
  14. I like him as a fifth outfielder. As the larger half of a RF platoon? Icky.
  15. I waffle. I've read some meh reports, but I don't know if they are real or just nitpicking.
  16. I'd probably want to have Appel at No. 2, and that's assuming Baez doesn't struggle with A+.
  17. I want a rotation with five guys with reasonable expectations of FIPs below 4
  18. Theo traded Nomar and Manny at the deadlines in years the Red Sox were going for it. Good point. Grumble temporarily withdrawn.
  19. Wittenmeyer said Marmol has been told to expect to open the season with the team and be traded at the deadline. So we're already planning the firesale. *grumble*
  20. Part of me wants to just chuck WAR out entirely because I'm not at all convinced it's properly weighing offense and defense.
  21. Yes. Mostly the first one. And while Vizcaino is being painted as nearly ready, he has like 23 innings above AA.
  22. I'm with you 95% of the time, but this year feels a bit different.
